Commentary On Genesis 1:1-11:26 by D.J. Letscher Pdf

As no part of the Bible is to be considered more important than any other part and there are no words of Scripture that we can do without, the words of Genesis 1:1""11:26 are not considered any more or less important or noteworthy than another set of eleven chapters randomly found in Scripture. These eleven chapters do, however, form the beginning of God's word to us and we are presented with history on a universal scale. In my opinion, it is the most sensible place to begin learning about our heavenly Father and about His eternal plan. This approach will give a Bible student the fundamental knowledge that is essential to understanding all remaining Scripture. This commentary will cover topics such as: 1. The Creation of the Heaven and the Earth by God in Eternity Past (Gen. 1:1) and the Ruin in which they Ended (Gen. 1:2). 2. The Six Days of Creation in Time Present (Gen. 1:2""31), Including the (Sixth Day) Creation of all "mankind," both "male and female" (Gen. 1:27), and the Blessing by God of the Seventh Day (Gen. 2:1""3). 3. The Generations of the Heavens and of the Earth (Gen. 2:4-4:26). 4. The (Sixth Day) Formation of Adam (Gen. 2:7), the Creation of Eve (Gen. 2:22), and Their Stay in the Garden of Eden (2:8-25). 5. The Beguiling of Adam and Eve by Satan (Gen. 3:1-7); the Punishment Determined by God upon Satan, Eve, and Adam (Gen. 3:8-24). 6. The Promise of a Savior (Gen. 3:15). 7. The Birth of Cain and Abel; the Murder of Abel by Cain, and the Lineage of Cain (Gen. 4:1-24). 8. The Lineage of Adam and the Antediluvian, or Pre-Flood, Patriarchs (Gen. 5:1-31). 9. The Fallen Angels and their Progeny; the Giants (Gen. 6:1-7). 10. Grace found only in Noah (Gen. 6:8). 11. The Pedigree of Noah; the Ark, and the Flood (Gen. 6:9-9:29). 12. The Generations of the Sons of Noah (Gen. 10:1-31). 13. Nimrod and the Tower of Babel (Gen. 11:1-9). 14. The Generations of Shem (Gen. 11:10-26). In addition, below each verse of the eleven chapters covered selected words will be highlighted and both the equivalent Hebrew translation of the word, as well as its definition will be given. *Definitions given are from The New Strong's Exhaustive Concordance of the Bible

The Trial of Dedan Kimathi by Ngugi wa Thiong'o,Micere Githae Mugo Pdf

Kenyan-born novelist and playwright Ngugi wa Thiong’o and his collaborator, Micere Githae Mugo, have built a powerful and challenging play out of the circumstances surrounding the 1956 trial of Dedan Kimathi, the celebrated Kenyan hero who led the Mau Mau rebellion against the British colonial regime in Kenya and was eventually hanged. A highly controversial character, Kimathi’s life has been subject to intense propaganda by both the British government, who saw him as a vicious terrorist, and Kenyan nationalists, who viewed him as a man of great courage and commitment. Writing in the 1970s, the playwrights’ response to colonialist writings about the Mau Mau movement in The Trial of Dedan Kimathi is to sing the praises of the deeds of this hero of the resistance who refused to surrender to British imperialism. It is not a reproduction of the farcical “trial” at Nyeri. Rather, according to the preface, it is “an imaginative recreation and interpretation of the collective will of the Kenyan peasants and workers in their refusal to break under sixty years of colonial torture and ruthless oppression by the British ruling classes and their continued determination to resist exploitation, oppression and new forms of enslavement.”

Dedan Kimathi on Trial by Julie MacArthur Pdf

The transcript from this historic trial, long thought destroyed or hidden, unearths a piece of the British colonial archive at a critical point in the Mau Mau Rebellion. Its discovery and landmark publication unsettles an already contentious Kenyan history and its reverberations in the postcolonial present. Perhaps no figure embodied the ambiguities, colonial fears, and collective imaginations of Kenya’s decolonization era more than Dedan Kimathi, the self-proclaimed field marshal of the rebel forces that took to the forests to fight colonial rule in the 1950s. Kimathi personified many of the contradictions that the Mau Mau Rebellion represented: rebel statesman, literate peasant, modern traditionalist. His capture and trial in 1956, and subsequent execution, for many marked the end of the rebellion and turned Kimathi into a patriotic martyr. Here, the entire trial transcript is available for the first time. This critical edition also includes provocative contributions from leading Mau Mau scholars reflecting on the meaning of the rich documents offered here and the figure of Kimathi in a much wider field of historical and contemporary concerns. These include the nature of colonial justice; the moral arguments over rebellion, nationalism, and the end of empire; and the complexities of memory and memorialization in contemporary Kenya. Contributors: David Anderson, Simon Gikandi, Nicholas Githuku, Lotte Hughes, and John Lonsdale. Introductory note by Willy Mutunga.

I Choose Me by Tanya Powell Pdf

Some people will tell you I abandoned my children; others will say I made a bold decision to put myself first. How does a stay-at-home mother of three decide to take her daughter and abandon her sons? Leaving my sons with a controlling, abusive, and narcissistic man causes a lot of people to question your parenting abilities. Good mothers do not leave their children. Good mothers put family first. In my memoir: I Choose Me, I explore the various myths women have been told since childhood about sex, marriage, abortion, love, and children. The story presents the notion to women, "What if you choose yourself?" Women are told to wait to be asked for marriage. Society tells wives to eat last and feed their husbands first. Our mothers teach us that a good mother puts her children before herself, but what if you put yourself first? Are you a bad person, mother, and wife? After years of abuse, and sacrifice I realized that I am as equally important as any member in my household. I chose to leave my husband, thus leaving my two sons. I saw me in my two-year-old daughter. I saw 22 years into the future. My daughter searching for a hero, only to be rescued by a monster. Yes, I left my sons. I didn't abandon them, but I did leave them with their father. I received a lot of backlash allowing my 10- and 12-year-old sons to decide if they wanted to start over a new life with their mother or stay in their big house with maids and unlimited resources. I regret that decision every day, and I will for the rest of my life. I realize that no one really knows what the best decision is when it comes to raising children, and divorce. What matters is that my children forgave me, and I forgave myself.

A Walk On The Wild Side by Nelson Algren Pdf

Dove Findhorn is a naïve country boy who busts out of Hicksville, Texas in pursuit of a better life in New Orleans. Amongst the downtrodden prostitutes, bootleggers and hustlers of the old French Quarter, Dove finds only hopelessness, crime and despair. His quest uncovers a harrowing grotesque of the American Dream. A Walk in the Wild Side is an angry, lonely, large-hearted and often funny masterpiece that has captured the imaginations of every generation since its first publication in 1956, and that rendered a world later immortalised in Lou Reed ́s classic song.
