Delivering the Future by Sam Coulter-Smith Pdf

For over 275 years, the Rotunda Hospital has been at the forefront of maternity services in Ireland. In Delivering the Future: Reflections of a Rotunda Master, Sam Coulter-Smith celebrates the history of the hospital, with a particular focus on the last thirty years, and explains why voluntary hospitals, with their ability to lead, adapt, research, and provide the best clinical services to their patients, play a vital role in maintaining and improving standards in our health service. Along with personal stories from a professional life that has revolved around the Rotunda, Prof. Coulter-Smith explores the recent developments in the Irish hospital service, particularly on the back of the Covid-19 pandemic, and how the independence of Ireland’s surviving voluntary hospitals is being stealthily eroded by current government policy and HSE controls, to the detriment of the entire health service. He also examines what we can learn from how our health service has been managed in the past and questions how we can use this learning to plan for a better future.

Health Informatics: Digital Health Service Delivery - The Future is Now! by H. Grain,L.K. Schaper Pdf

Healthcare systems around the world are going through immense changes as innovative approaches to healthcare delivery are adopted to reduce cost and improve quality of care. Health informatics professionals are increasingly required to support these changes, and innovation, learning from experience and sharing ideas are essential to delivering the promises of e-health. This book presents the proceedings of the 21st Australian National Health Informatics Conference (HIC 2013), held in Adelaide, Australia in July 2013. The theme of HIC 2013 is ‘Digital Health Service Delivery – the Future is Now!’, emphasising the urgency of the need to embrace and advance the field of health informatics. The 28 papers in this volume examine and discuss directions, successes and other factors which need to be considered by all those involved in developing or implementing new health informatics systems. They present a wide diversity of work ranging from deeply theoretical to intensely practical, and represent experiences not only from Australasia, but also from many other parts of the world. Topics covered include: the design of viable and sustainable telehealth services, building an educated health informatics workforce, how to prepare health professionals for e-health as a life long learning process, improving the cancer patient journey, designing a diabetes mobile application with social network support, as well as many others. This book will be of interest to all those involved in the current and future provision of healthcare services.

Delivering the Digital Restaurant by Carl Orsbourn,Meredith Sandland Pdf

The omnichannel disruption that upended retail has finally come to the restaurant industry. Restaurateurs must shift how they think, behave, and invest to survive and thrive. Today's consumers are well-conditioned in their expectations: they want the same tech-savvy, on-demand, and frictionless interactions with restaurants that they get in every other vertical. If you think your 1,000-unit restaurant chain is too big to fail, remember that 1,000-unit Sears closed nearly all of its stores after it filed for bankruptcy in February 2019. If you think your local family independent restaurant is too beloved to fail, remember the Amazon effect changed the face of main street and traditional retailing. Delivering the Digital Restaurant explores the massive disruption facing American restaurants through first-hand accounts of food industry veterans and start-up entrepreneurs innovating the future of food. Combining sociological observations, rich industry data, and insider knowledge, Delivering paints a picture of how food is evolving and how you as a leader, owner, or operator can successfully innovate and meet the new consumer demands to capitalize on the opportunities ahead. Those who understand this digital disruption will be better positioned to embrace the innovation that consumers are demanding. Those who resist will surely be left behind.

Delivering for the future by Great Britain: Department for Business, Innovation and Skills Pdf

This paper outlines the Government's proposals that aim to safeguard the universal postal service and secure sustainable futures for the Royal Mail and the Post Office. It follows on from two reports by Richard Hooper ("Modernise or decline ... ", Cm. 7529, 2008, ISBN 9780101752923 and "Saving the Royal Mail's universal postal service in the digital age", Cm. 7937, 2010, ISBN 9780101793728). The associated Postal Services Bill (Bill 78, ISBN 9780215546357) will allow private sector investment in Royal Mail to bring in commercial disciplines and the potential for new capital. The Government will sell shares in Royal Mail to achieve this investment. An employee share scheme will also be established which will hold at least 10 per cent of the equity in Royal Mail. The historic pension deficit of some £8.4 billion will be transferred to Government and a new public sector pension scheme created. The Government also makes clear that the Post Office is not for sale, but the Bill allows for the possibility of mutual ownership in the future. Finally, the regulation of the postal services sector is to be modernised. The responsibility for the mail sector will transfer from Postcomm to Ofcom, with a primary responsibility to act in a way that will secure the future of the universal postal service. Extra safeguards for the universal postal service are put in place by the Bill.

On-Demand Culture by Chuck Tryon Pdf

The movie industry is changing rapidly, due in part to the adoption of digital technologies. Distributors now send films to theaters electronically. Consumers can purchase or rent movies instantly online and then watch them on their high-definition televisions, their laptops, or even their cell phones. Meanwhile, social media technologies allow independent filmmakers to raise money and sell their movies directly to the public. All of these changes contribute to an “on-demand culture,” a shift that is radically altering film culture and contributing to a much more personalized viewing experience. Chuck Tryon offers a compelling introduction to a world in which movies have become digital files. He navigates the complexities of digital delivery to show how new modes of access—online streaming services like YouTube or Netflix, digital downloads at iTunes, the popular Redbox DVD kiosks in grocery stores, and movie theaters offering digital projection of such 3-D movies as Avatar—are redefining how audiences obtain and consume motion picture entertainment. Tryon also tracks the reinvention of independent movies and film festivals by enterprising artists who have built their own fundraising and distribution models online. Unique in its focus on the effects of digital technologies on movie distribution, On-Demand Culture offers a corrective to address the rapid changes in the film industry now that movies are available at the click of a button.

The Future of Health-Care Delivery by Stephen C. Schimpff, MD Pdf

Approximately 100,000 deaths per year in the United States result from preventable medical errors. This figure is about twice the number of people who die in car accidents and five times the number of murder victims annually, and twenty times the number of servicemen and women killed in Iraq and Afghanistan since the start of hostilities in 2001. If you think Americans have the best health-care system in the world, think again. In this deeply researched and controversial book, Dr. Stephen Schimpff explains why our health-care delivery system serves us so poorly, why it costs so much, and why government policy over many decades has not only failed to improve care delivery but has actually made it worse. In the process, he dispels common misconceptions about medicine and health care. The Future of Health-Care Delivery provides timely information and a road map to achieve world-class care delivery, putting health care where it belongs—in the hands of the patient and medical professionals instead of the insurance companies and government.

Management by Thomas A. Kochan,Richard Schmalensee Pdf

The MIT Sloan School of Management, as conceived by the legendary General Motors chairman Alfred P. Sloan, was founded in 1952 to draw on the scientific and technical resources of MIT and approach the problems of management with the rigorous research practices for which MIT was famous. Fifty years later, the Sloan School gathered international leaders in business and management, MIT faculty, students, and alumni to address again the basic principles that should guide business and management. This book presents the papers prepared by student-faculty teams, speeches by business and world leaders, and summaries of the discussions from this special convocation; taken together, they offer a guide to the future of management based on the hallmarks of MIT and Sloan--creativity and innovation. The topics considered coalesced around three main themes. First, and paramount, is the necessity of building and maintaining trust by means of openness, transparency, and accountability; this was addressed in speeches by Kofi Annan and Carly Fiorina and exemplified by the case study presented of Nike's efforts to rebuild the trust of customers. The increasingly complex conditions of the modern global economy emerged as another recurring theme, as the participants considered the effect of the growing spectrum of stakeholders on issues of corporate governance. The third common theme was the inescapability of technological and scientific change, from the Internet as a marketing tool to the organizational impact of information technology.

The Future of Same-day Delivery by Sunil Chopra Pdf

In 2012 several retailers, including Amazon and Walmart, experimented with same-day delivery. Home delivery of pizzas had been a very successful model in the United States and had been copied all over the world. In contrast, home delivery attempts by companies like Kozmo and Urbanfetch had failed and both companies went bankrupt. The goal of this case is to build a framework that helps students identify the factors that influence the success or failure of home delivery models. After analyzing and discussing the case, students should be able to: - Build a basic framework identifying supply chain drivers that are influenced by a firm's decision to offer same-day home delivery - Understand the tradeoffs that influence the success of a same-day home delivery model - Identify qualitative factors to be considered when deciding between non-U.S. facility locations, including transportation time variability, consumer perceptions, and cultural differences.
