Extracellular Matrix Biomineralization of Dental Tissue Structures by Michel Goldberg,Pamela Den Besten Pdf

This book addresses the structural and biological properties of dental and peridental tissue structures and covers their mineralization process. The book contains a description of dentines, cementum, enamel and bone, including collagens, as well as non-collagenous proteins (SIBLINGs, SLRPs, GAGs, PGs, lipids, and MMPs). The mechanisms of mineralization are described in detail and the book is focused on matrix vesicles, collagen mineralization and the role of non-collagenous extracellular matrix components either as promoters or inhibitors of mineralization. In addition, the matrix components (non-collagenous) of enamel (amelogenin, ameloblastin, enamelin, MMP4, MMP20 and other proteases) are reviewed and their respective roles in dental tissues biomineralizations and tissue turnover are discussed. Additionally, environmental factors involved in enamel / dentin defects are adressed. With state-of-the-art contributions from experts in the respective domains, the book is a useful introduction to the field for junior scientists, interested in dental and peridental tissue biomineralization. It is also an interesting read for advanced scientists and clinicians working in dental research, giving them a broader view of the topic beyond their area of specialization. The series Biology of Extracellular Matrix is published in collaboration with the American Society for Matrix Biology.

Human Dentofacial Growth by Denys H. Goose,John Appleton Pdf

Human Dentofacial Growth addresses the study of development and growth of the craniofacial region, which is required as a background for orthodontics and pedodontics. Designed as a reference book for dental students, the book discusses and stresses the relevance of clinical problems. Starting with a background of human growth - prenatal, postnatal, and the factors affecting growth, the book then shifts attention to the bone formation throughout the embryonic, fetal, and post-natal life. The bone development, structure, and growth are also explained. The growth of the craniofacial region is also examined, and a description of the mandible follows. Illustrations accompany this description and the growth process of the mandible is given in more detail. Emphasis is given to the temporomandibular joint between the condylar process of the mandible and the squamous temporal bone of the cranium. Cephalometric techniques in orthodontic assessment and treatment management and monitoring are described. Cephalometric approaches are also included in analyzing facial growth. An important part of dentofacial development and growth is the development and structure of the teeth and their supporting structures. The role of ectomesenchyme in tooth development and more descriptive details on the dentine, enamel, and the periodontium are given. The formation of the dental arch is then examined, including the mechanism of tooth eruption, reasons for differences in tooth number, and the interaction between the teeth and dental arches. Students of dentistry and orthodontics, cosmetic dentists, oral surgeons, dental hygienists, and professors interested in craniofacial growth will find this book valuable.

Dynamic Aspects of Dental Pulp by Reizo Inoki,Teruo Kudo,Leif M. Olgart Pdf

This book presents a circumspective overview and update of the present existing knowledge of the biology, chemistry and pathophysiology of the dental pulp. It details numerous observations of a group of highly specialized investigators who have united in the common purpose of presenting their observations for the benefit of clinicians, teachers, researchers and students. Fortunately, the dental literature presents abundant research findings about pulp biology and the pulp's responses to various stimuli. This abundance has resulted in an increased interest and expansion of research on this subject. For example, publications abound on the response of pulp tissue to various medications and to a variety of types of dental materials which may be placed near to or at some distance from the pulp through the medium of dentine. One of the reasons the pulp is of such interest is that it not only provides the vitality to the teeth but also produces the dentine - both the primary and secondary, as well as reparative. The latter-type dentine is a result of the pulp's functions in response to disease as the former dentine is in response to health. As an example, some investigators have reported the effects of cutting of dentine and the placement of restorations in dentine which in turn reflect changes on the pulp tissue. These reports have raised a number of questions, which in turn have created a need for answers.

Teeth by B.K.B. Berkovitz,A. Boyde,R.M. Frank,H.J. Höhling,B.J. Moxham,J. Nalbandian,C.H. Tonge Pdf

The editors and the publisher are pleased to present another volume in this series of monographs. The topic of teeth was last reviewed within the framework of this Handbook more than fifty years ago, in 1936, by Josef Lehner and HanDs Plenk of Vienna, who wrote a comprehensive treatise on the subject in volume V 3. / The introduction of new methods (e.g., transmission and scan ning electron microscopy, histochemistry, radioautography, element analysis) and progress in dental research have made an update necessary. In present times, characterized by scientific specialization and very rapid progress, it is virtually impossible to find a single individual prepared to review a field of research as large as that of teeth. Consequently. several authors were asked to contribute to the present volume. Originally. the intention was to cover the field in one volume. When it became clear that the material had become too extensive for a single volume, and when some authors were forced by external factors to withdraw from the project, it was decided to publish two volumes. In 1986, the volume Periodontium, written by Hubert E. Schroeder of Zurich. appeared in this series (volume VIS, 418 pages).
