Designing and Implementing a Secure, Portable, and Efficient Mobile Agent Kernel: The J-SEAL2 Approach by Walter Binder Pdf

Inhaltsangabe:Abstract: Even though the benefits of mobile agents have been highlighted in numerous research works, mobile agent applications are not in widespread use today. For the success of mobile agent applications, secure, portable, and efficient execution platforms for mobile agents are crucial. However, available mobile agent systems do not meet the high security requirements of commercial applications, are not portable, or cause high overhead. Currently, the majority of mobile agent platforms is based on Java. These systems simply rely on the security facilities of Java, although the Java security model is not suited to protect agents and service components from each other. Above all, Java is lacking a concept of strong protection domains that could be used to isolate agents. The J-SEAL2 mobile agent system extends the Java environment with a model of strong protection domains. The core of the system is a micro-kernel fulfilling the same functions as a traditional operating system kernel: Protection, communication, domain termination, and resource control. For portability reasons, J-SEAL2 is implemented in pure Java. J-SEAL2 provides an efficient communication model and offers good scalability and performance for large-scale applications. This thesis explains the key concepts of the J-SEAL2 micro-kernel and how they are implemented in Java. The Semantic Web - ISWC 2004 by Sheila A. McIlraith,Dimitris Plexousakis,Frank van Harmelen Pdf

The 3rd International Semantic Web Conference (ISWC 2004) was held Nov- ber 7–11, 2004 in Hiroshima, Japan. If it is true what the proverb says: “Once by accident, twice by habit, three times by tradition,” then this third ISWC did indeed ?rmly establish a tradition. After the overwhelming interest in last year’s conference at Sanibel Island, Florida, this year’s conference showed that the Semantic Web is not just a one-day wonder, but has established itself ?rmly on the research agenda. At a time when special interest meetings with a Sem- tic Web theme are springing up at major conferences in numerous areas (ACL, VLDB, ECAI, AAAI, ECML, WWW, to name but a few), the ISWC series has established itself as the primary venue for Semantic Web research. Response to the call for papers for the conference continued to be strong. We solicited submissions to three tracks of the conference: the research track, the industrial track, and the poster track. The research track, the premier venue for basic research on the Semantic Web, received 205 submissions, of which 48 were accepted for publication. Each submission was evaluated by three p- gram committee members whose reviews were coordinated by members of the senior program committee. Final decisions were made by the program co-chairs in consultation with the conference chair and the senior program committee. The industrial track, soliciting papers describing industrial research on the - mantic Web, received 22 submissions, of which 7 were accepted for publication.

Welcometotheproceedingsofthe2004EuropeanConferenceonWebServices(ECOWS 2004).ECOWSisoneoftheleadinginternationalconferencesfocusingonWebservices. ECOWS2004wasaforumforresearchersandpractitionersfromacademiaandindustry to exchange information regarding advances in the state of the art and practice of Web services, identify emerging research topics, and de?ne the future directions of Web services computing. ECOWS 2004 had a special interest in papers that contribute to the convergence of Web services, Grid computing, e-business and autonomic computing, and papers that apply techniques from one area to another. This conference was called the International Conference on Web Services Europe in 2003. ECOWS 2004 was a sister event of the International Conference onWeb Services 2004 (ICWS 2004), which attracted more than 250 registered participants in San Diego, USA. Web services are characterized by network-based application components and a service-oriented architecture using standard interface description languages and u- form communicationprotocols. Industrial applicationdomainsforWebservicesinclude business-to-business integration, business process integration and management, c- tent management, e-sourcing, composite Web services creation, design collaboration for computer engineering, multimedia communication, digital TV, and interactive Web solutions. Recently, Grid computing has also started to leverage Web services to de?ne standard interfaces for business Grid services and generic reusable Grid resources. The program of ECOWS 2004 featured a variety of papers on topics ranging from Web services and dynamic business process composition to Web services and process management,Web services discovery,Web services security,Web services-based app- cations for e-commerce, Web services-based Grid computing, and Web services solu- ons.

Food Processing by J. Scott Smith,Y. H. Hui Pdf

Renowned international academicians and food industry professionals have collaborated to create Food Processing: Principles and Applications. This practical, fully illustrated resource examines the principles of food processing and demonstrates their application by describing the stages and operations for manufacturing different categories of basic food products. Ideal as an undergraduate text, Food Processing stands apart in three ways: The expertise of the contributing authors is unparalleled among food processing texts today. The text is written mostly by non-engineers for other non-engineers and is therefore user-friendly and easy to read. It is one of the rare texts to use commodity manufacturing to illustrate the principles of food processing. As a hands-on guide to the essential processing principles and their application, this book serves as a relevant primary or supplemental text for students of food science and as a valuable tool for food industry professionals.

Primary Progressive Multiple Sclerosis by M. Filippi,G. Comi Pdf

"Why are there no effective treatments for my condition? Why do researchers exclude patients with primary progressive multiple sclerosis from enrolling in clinical trials? Please let me know if you hear of studies that I might be allowed to enter or treatments that I could try for my condition. " Thus, in recent years, the sad lament of the patient with primary progressive MS (PPMS). This variant, often in the guise of a chronic progressive myelopathy or, less commonly, progressive cerebellar or bulbar dysfunction, usually responds poorly to corticosteroids and rarely seems to benefit to a significant degree from intensive immunosuppressive treatments. In recent years, most randomized clin ical trials have excluded PPMS patients on two counts. Clinical worsening devel ops slowly in PPMS and may not be recognized during the course of a 2-or 3-year trial even in untreated control patients. This factor alone adds to the potential for a type 2 error or, at the very least, inflates the sample size and duration of the trial. In addition, there is mounting evidence that progressive axonal degeneration and neuronal loss (rather than active, recurrent inflammation) may be important components of the pathology in this form of the disease. Although contemporary trials are evaluating whether PPMS patients may benefit from treatment with the ~-interferons and glatiramer acetate, preliminary, uncontrolled clinical experi ence suggests that the results may not be dramatic.

Human Impacts on Seals, Sea Lions, and Sea Otters by Todd J. Braje,Torben C. Rick Pdf

“The bones recovered from the middens of the northeastern Pacific shorelines have important stories to tell biologists, marine mammalogists, and those concerned with marine conservation. This volume unearths a wealth of information about the historical ecology of seals, sea lions, and sea otters in the North Pacific that spans thousands of years. It provides fascinating insights into how the world once looked, and how it may one day look again as seals, sea lions, and sea otters reclaim and recolonize their former haunts.”—Andrew Trites, Director, Marine Mammal Research Unit, University of British Columbia “Braje and Rick have assembled a compelling set of case studies on the long-term and complex interactions between people, marine mammals, and environments in the Northeast Pacific. The promise of zooarchaeology as historical science is on full display, as researchers use geochemistry, aDNA, morphometrics, and traditional analytic methods to address questions of utmost importance to the long-term health of coastal ecosystems. If this book doesn't convince conservation biology about the need to take the long view of animal histories and ecosystems into account in developing conservation management plans, I'm not sure what will.”—Virginia L. Butler, Department of Anthropology, Portland State University
