Diabetic Kidney Disease by Takashi Wada,Kengo Furuichi,Naoki Kashihara Pdf

This book presents the latest information on the clinical-pathological features of diabetic kidney disease. The data included is based on a cohort study of biopsy-proven diabetic nephropathy patients and nephrosclerosis patients, who were observed over a long term, and on the long-term registry for diabetic nephropathy (diabetic kidney disease) in Japan. It provides a clinical-pathological axis in clinical settings, including differential pathological/clinical diagnoses of CKD in diabetic patients (e.g. the presence of “classic” diabetic nephropathy and/or nephrosclerosis and/or other primary kidney diseases). The abundant biopsy specimens with long-term medical records provide a detailed pathological and clinical description. The book also includes urine-sample data for developing and validating possible candidates for novel biomarkers for diabetic kidney disease. Many countries, including Japan, have ageing populations, in which nephrosclerosis contributes to the progression of kidney lesions in patients with diabetic kidney disease. As such, a comparison of a diabetic nephropathy cohort with nephrosclerosis is indispensable to offer better treatments. This comprehensive and informative book is an indispensible reference resource for all physicians and researchers in the field of nephrology and diabetes.

Uric Acid in Chronic Kidney Disease by A. Treviño-Becerra,K. Iseki Pdf

Hyperuricemia is often associated with life-style related disorders such as diabetes mellitus, hypertension, and dyslipidemia, which, in turn, are major causes of CKD. Improved management of hyperuricemia is thus expected to be beneficial for both the general population and CKD patients. This book presents new information on uric acid in tubular transport, early recognition of renal lesions, genetic predisposition, preeclampsia, metabolic syndrome, diabetes, high blood pressure in the young, and the relationship with vitamin D. Moreover, the relationship between AKI and uric acid, as well as the rejection of renal transplants due to hyperuricemia, are discussed. This publication will be of interest to both general practitioners and researchers working in the field of CKD. It provides new insights into renal damage caused by hyperuricemia and into prevention and treatment possibilities.

Diabetes and the Kidney by Christoph Hasslacher,Sonja B¿hm Pdf

Diabetes, when untreated, leads to damage to several organs within the body, particularly the kidneys. This damage may also go undetected for several years, until the later stages of kidney failure are reached, with a need for kidney replacement therapy - either dialysis or transplantation. Such progression is not inevitable. With good management, diabetes can be well controlled and kidney function can be maintained; to a certain extent, the damage can even be reversed. Diabetes and the Kidney is written for people with diabetes, their families and carers. It describes the function of the kidneys, the development of nephropathy, the ways to recognize it early and the correct way to manage it. The title emphasizes how people should take responsibility for their own health, with information on diet, giving up smoking and taking exercise. Clearly written description of kidney function, how it goes wrong in diabetic nephropathy and ways to prevent this Guidance on diet, exercise and generally encouraging people to become involved in their own health care Information on treatment of kidney disease and kidney replacement therapy

Diabetic Nephropathy by E.A. Friedman,Charles M. Peterson Pdf

Diabetic nephropathy is a tragic illness. Its often insidious onset in the insulin dependent (type I) diabetic, typically a young adult, heralds the last act in the course of a disease that will increasingly become the dominant preoccupation in the patient's shortened life. For most type II diabetics, the beginning of clinical renal insufficiency is but a phase in a continuous deterioration that affects the integrity ofjob, marriage, and family. The nephropathic diabetic is hypertensive, has worsening retinopathy, and more often than not, is also plagued by peripheral vascular insufficiency, heart disease, gastrointestinal malfunction, and deepening depression. Until the 1980's, few type I diabetics who became uremic (because ofdiabetic nephropathy) lived for more than two years. Hardly any attained true rehabilitation. This dismal prognosis is changing substantially for the better. Research in diabetes has resulted in striking advances at both ends of the type I diabetic's natural history. In one exciting clinical trial now underway in London, Ontario, halfofchildhood diabetics treated with cyclosporine within six weeks of onset evince"permanent" disappearanceofhyperglycemia and the need for insulin. At the otherendofthe natural historyofdiabetes for the nephropathic patientwith worsening eye disease (renal-retinal syndrome), who receives a kidney transplant, patient and graft survival, two years after cadaveric kidney transplantation in type I diabetics is now equal to that of the nondiabetic.

This volume will focus on and emphasise the clinical relevance of diabetic nephropathy, a relatively common problem of diabetes. It affects about one in three patients with Type 1 diabetes, and left untreated can lead to a progressive decline in renal function, accompanied by retinopathy and arterial hypertension, which, in turn, leads to cardiovascular disease - a common cause of death in these patients. Diabetic Nephropathy will also provide the reader with a solid grounding in current basic and clinical research.

The Kidney and Hypertension in Diabetes Mellitus by Carl Erik Mogensen Pdf

The first sporadic observations describing renal abnormalities in diabetes were published late in the 19th century, but systematic studies of the kidney in diabetes started only half a century ago after the paper by Cambier in 1934 and the much more famous study by Kimmelstiel and Wilson in 1936. These authors described two distinct features of renal involvement in diabetes: early hyperfiltration and late nephropathy. Diabetic nephropathy is, despite half a century of studies, still a very pertinent problem, renal disease in diabetes now being a very common cause of end-stage renal failure in Europe and North America and probably throughout the world. It is a very important part of the generalized vascular disease found in long-term diabetes as described by Knud Lundbaek in his mono graph Long-term Diabetes in 1953, published by Munks gaard, Copenhagen. Surprisingly, there has not been a comprehensive volume describing all aspects of renal involvement in diabetes, and the time is now ripe for such a volume summarizing the very considerable research activity within this field during the last decade and especially during the last few years. This book attempts to cover practically all aspects of renal involvement in diabetes. It is written by colleagues who are themselves active in the many fields of medical research covered in this volume: epidemiology, physiology and pathophysiology, laboratory methodology, and renal pathology. New studies deal with the dia gnosis and treatment of both incipient and overt nephropathy by metabolie, antihypertensive, and dietary invention.
