Tales from the Miami Hurricanes Sideline by Jim Martz Pdf

University of Miami football is more than national championships, thirty-game winning streaks, and being a pipeline to the NFL. It’s the Gator Flop, defeating Tulane on a fifth down, and playing three games in eight days. It’s converting third and 44 against Notre Dame, Michael Irvin talking smack with Florida State’s Deion Sanders, and Vinny Testaverde being sacked by hamburgers. It’s the Jet Lag Kids playing seven road games in one season, including one in Tokyo, and it’s the Ibis mascot being arrested on the field in Tallahassee and being nicked by a bullet on Bourbon Street. Tales from the Miami Hurricanes Sideline is a collection of the greatest anecdotes and stories ever told about ’Canes football. In this newly updated edition, Jim Martz, who has covered the team for more than three decades, chronicles the ups, downs, and sideways of this spirited program that has produced five national championship teams under four different coaches since 1983. They have won under charismatic coaches and under low-key coaches. More than anything, they have won with colorful players. In an age of parity and just a few years removed from the program nearly being dropped, the Hurricanes have defied the odds and become a dynasty of modern college football.

Game of My Life Miami Hurricanes by Craig T. Smith Pdf

This book takes a personal look inside some of the biggest moments of Miami’s greatest players as “The U” morphed from a football program nearly disbanded in the 1970s to a national power. Three-time All-American and Pro Football Hall of Fame inductee Ted “the Mad Stork” Hendricks shares his thoughts on single-handedly dominating the LSU Tigers in 1968. Current Georgia head coach Mark Richt recalls getting pelted with oranges in Gainesville in 1980, then taking over for an injured Jim Kelly and leading the Canes to a 21-20 win over the Gators in 1981. Alonzo Highsmith remembers all four of his touchdowns in Miami’s first victory at Notre Dame in 1984, where he wanted to jump out of the stadium . . . and run over that leprechaun. Vinny Testaverde recounts the antics of Melvin Bratton and Alonzo Highsmith, who prank-called Brian Bosworth the morning before No. 1 Oklahoma invaded the Orange Bowl to take on the No. 2 ’Canes, where Testaverde threw four touchdown passes in a 28-16 Heisman-clinching win. Gino Torretta describes the shot that knocked the wind out of him as he delivered the game-winning touchdown pass to Lamar Thomas in Miami’s 19-16 “Wide Right II” victory. There are many more unforgettable moments in Game of My Life Miami Hurricanes that span different eras of Miami football, including conversations with former All-American Eric Winston, 1988 Orange Bowl MVP Bernard “Tiger” Clark, All-American wideout Santana Moss, and record-setting kicker Carlos Huerta. All share close and personal details of what they were thinking and feeling in the best games of their careers. The Backyard Brawl by John Antonik Pdf

The West Virginia University Mountaineers and the University of Pittsburgh Panthers, separated by less than eighty miles of highway, have battled it out on the football field for more than one hundred years. Unbeatable by Jerry Barca Pdf

Perhaps the best undefeated team in the history of college football—Unbeatable presents the dramatic true story of the 1988 Notre Dame Fighting Irish and their incredible unbeaten season. Unbeatable is the first book to tell the complete story of the incredible 1988 season that brought the fledgling Fighting Irish back to the top of college sports in what many consider to be the greatest unbeaten season of college football ever played. With a completely unlikely but forever memorable cast of characters—including the slight, lisping coach Lou Holtz; the star quarterback, Tony Rice; five foot nothing Asian kicker, Reggie Ho; NFL-bound Ricky Watters; and a crazed and ferocious defensive line, among others—Notre Dame whipped millions of fans into a frenzy. This roller coaster season of football includes the infamous Catholics vs. Convicts game (Notre Dame vs. Jimmy Johnson's #1 ranked Miami Hurricanes). The two teams were undefeated when they met at Notre Dame Stadium, with the Irish winning in the final seconds by a final score of 31-30. With original reporting and interviews with everyone from the players to the coaches, detailed research, and access to the Notre Dame archives, Jerry Barca tells a gripping story of an unbelievable season and the players who would become legends. More than a Notre Dame book, Unbeatable is a compelling narrative of one of the most incredible sports stories of the last century—the unlikely tale of an underdog team coming together and making history.

Kinderculture by Shirley R. Steinberg Pdf

America is a corporatized society defined by a culture of consumerism, and the youth market is one of the groups that corporations target most. By marketing directly to children, through television, movies, radio, video games, toys, books, and fast food, advertisers have produced a 'kinderculture'. In this eye-opening book, editor Shirley R. Steinberg reveals the profound impact that our purchasing-obsessed culture has on our children and argues that the experience of childhood has been reshaped into something that is prefabricated. Analyzing the pervasive influence of these corporate productions, top experts in the fields of education, sociology, communications, and cultural studies contribute incisive essays that students, parents, educators, and general readers will find insightful and entertaining. Including seven new chapters, this third edition is thoroughly updated with examinations of the icons that shape the values and consciousness of today's children, including Twilight, True Blood, and vampires, hip hop, Hannah Montana, Disney, and others.
