Don't Say Anything to Anybody by Brigitte Z. Yearman,Anika Hanisch Pdf

Countless World War II memoirs have been written, but few offer the German civilian perspective. Brigitte Z. Yearman's evocative survival memoir provides that fresh voice. Young Brigitte knows nothing of the politics of war. All she knows is that the conflict has separated her from her family and taken her father away to fight. When her hometown becomes a bombing target, Brigitte is transported to the rural town of Seidel. Her foster family openly opposes the Nazi regime, but when the war ends, that isn't enough to save them from new troubles brought by Allied troops. Russian soldiers and Polish settlers occupy Seidel, and Brigitte and her foster family are forced to leave. As refugees they embark on a harrowing life-or-death journey to safety in West Germany. Brigitte is determined to find and restore whatever is left of her biological family. That quest will forever change her understanding of home, peace, and personal identity. This tale of courage and compassion tells a poignant story about a resilient and resourceful girl coming of age during extremely troubled times. Along the way, she must learn to balance her longing for restoration with an acknowledgment that some wounds never heal.

Chronicles of Carlingford: The Rector and the Doctor's Family by Margaret Oliphant Pdf

This early work by Margaret Oliphant was originally published in 1863 and we are now republishing it with a brand new introductory biography. These two short novels raise the curtain on an entrancing new world for all who love Jane Austen, George Eliot, and Trollope's "Barsetshire Chronicles". The setting is Carlingford, a small town not far from London in the 1800s. The Rector opens as Carlingford awaits the arrival of their new rector. Will he be high church or low? And, for there are numerous unmarried ladies in Carlingford, will he be a bachelor? The Doctor's Family introduces us to the newly built quarter of Carlingford where young Dr Rider seeks his living. Already burdened by his improvident brother's return from Australia, he is appalled when his brother's family and sister-in-law, Nettie, follow him to Carlingford. Margaret Oliphant was born in Wallyford, Scotland in 1828. When she was ten years old, her family moved to Liverpool, where she began to experiment with writing. She had her first novel, Passages in the Life of Mrs. Margaret Maitlan (1849), published when she was just 21. By the 1860s, Oliphant was a popular and recognized author, and in order to support her family (she had become a widow in 1959) she became an incredibly prolific author. Oliphant eventually went on to write more than 120 works, including novels travelogues, histories and volumes of literary criticism.

White House Special Handbook by Mikhail Kryzhanovsky Pdf

Here is the book that guides the President of the United States from the first in the Oval Office and to the day he (or she?) walks out for the last time. In fact, the strategies and mindset recommended in these pages are essential tools for capturing the Presidency, much less wielding it. The international scene today is either a madhouse or the product of extraordinarily cynical techniques such as these, applied with cold cunning, by our nations leaders. This handbook provides a comparison of the world's premier intelligence agencies, discusses tactics of surveillance, war, and public persuasion, practical advice on political maneuvering at the local, national and international levels. A rational, results-based handbook, it is destined to be a secret favorite of politicians, agents of the special services, CEOs and corporate boards for the next hundred years to come. And for the many other ambitious contenders in the world of winner-take-all bare-knuckles capitalism. The author, who cites decades of insider knowledge at the KGB and the CIA, says he originally compiled this book upon a request from Washington anonymous, of course. - Publisher.
