The Dummy by Alan S. Ferguson Pdf

A grave injustice, a life sentence, is carried out on a boy not yet 2 years old. Greg Runnerstrum is judged to be retarded, he is ridiculed daily. The bullies pound this scarlet letter into him at will with glee. This is a must read for those who abhor socialized injustice and cheer the triumph of the spirit over all obstacles. For Greg Runnerstrum may start out on the bottom but he surely doesn't end up there, quite the contrary. A small assortment of people from different walks of life see beyond the stigmatized Greg. Strangers really, they find a most worthwhile human being who grows thanks to their nurturing. From a dismal beginning, reader's spirits will soar with Greg as he finds his way through life - to the American dream and beyond. This work will appeal to readers on several levels. Psychologically, 'The Dummy' deals with as boy's non-existent self-esteem and how his peers perceive and treat him based on his 'label'. How prejudices die ever so slowly upon the revelation that Greg is really brilliant. Emotionally, it's a roller coaster ride. Depressing at first, as everyday situations trigger past injustices. The beatings and humiliations will bring a sense of rage among readers. Sensual, for who would ever thought that Greg would find true love and deal with it on a mature, emotional level? Philanthropic, as Greg, with nothing to give, is given everything and enjoys returning the favor by helping others, anonymously. Introspective. Are you Greg? Greg's friend? Or one of his tormentors? - Alan S. Ferguson

Assessing the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on the livelihoods of rural people by Sitko, N., Knowles M., Viberti, F., Bordi, D. Pdf

In this paper we focus specifically on differences in the welfare impacts of COVID-19 on rural livelihoods between countries using nationally representative data that we disaggregate by food system typology. This typology captures key structural differences in the organization of rural economies and the vulnerabilities to rural livelihoods due to the COVID-19 pandemic and associated lockdown measures. In particular, we draw on household survey data collected from 54 countries through the World Bank’s COVID-19 High Frequency Monitoring Dashboard to generate descriptive data on COVID-19 impacts in rural areas across three dimensions: income, coping strategies and food security. These descriptive data are disaggregated into four food system categories and contextualized and validated through a systematic review of rigorous, survey-based studies of COVID-19 impacts in rural areas. Through this analysis, the report provides insights on how COVID-19 is influencing rural livelihoods, how its impacts vary between countries and food system typologies, and, ultimately, how policymakers and the international community need to respond in order to foster an inclusive and sustainable recovery.

Google, officially known as Alphabet Inc., is an American multinational technology company. It was founded in September 1998 by Larry Page and Sergey Brin while they were Ph.D. students at Stanford University. Initially, it started as a research project to develop a search engine, but it rapidly grew into one of the largest and most influential technology companies in the world. Google is primarily known for its internet-related services and products, with its search engine being its most well-known offering. It revolutionized the way people access information by providing a fast and efficient search engine that delivers highly relevant results. Over the years, Google expanded its portfolio to include a wide range of products and services, including Google Maps, Google Drive, Gmail, Google Docs, Google Photos, Google Chrome, YouTube, and many more. In addition to its internet services, Google ventured into hardware with products like the Google Pixel smartphones, Google Home smart speakers, and Google Nest smart home devices. It also developed its own operating system called Android, which has become the most widely used mobile operating system globally. Biological Effects of Magnetic Fields by Madeleine F. Barnothy Pdf

Study of the biological effect of magnetic fields is both a very old and a very recent area of investigation. A connection between health and the mysterious force of the lodestone has been suspected since the dawn of human culture. Nevertheless, only during the last decades has reliable evidence of biological effects of the magnetic field been dis covered. The purpose of this book is to bring together in one volume the present-day knowledge in all the active fields of biomagnetic research and at the same time to provide a theoretical and practical background to all scientists who wish to engage in investigations in this new disci pline. The need for such a comprehensive survey of current informa tion became evident to the editor from the interest manifested in the biomagnetic symposia and from the extended correspondence maintained by the Biomagnetic Research Foundation. It is hoped that the book will aid in attracting the interest of specialists and may thus serve as a catalyst for interdisciplinary exchange of ideas.

CRYPTOCURRENCY PRICE ANALYSIS, PREDICTION, AND FORECASTING USING MACHINE LEARNING WITH PYTHON by Vivian Siahaan,Rismon Hasiholan Sianipar Pdf

In this project, we will be conducting a comprehensive analysis, prediction, and forecasting of cryptocurrency prices using machine learning with Python. The dataset we will be working with contains historical cryptocurrency price data, and our main objective is to build models that can accurately predict future price movements and daily returns. The first step of the project involves exploring the dataset to gain insights into the structure and contents of the data. We will examine the columns, data types, and any missing values present. After that, we will preprocess the data, handling any missing values and converting data types as needed. This will ensure that our data is clean and ready for analysis. Next, we will proceed with visualizing the dataset to understand the trends and patterns in cryptocurrency prices over time. We will create line plots, box plot, violin plot, and other visualizations to study price movements, trading volumes, and volatility across different cryptocurrencies. These visualizations will help us identify any apparent trends or seasonality in the data. To gain a deeper understanding of the time-series nature of the data, we will conduct time-series analysis year-wise and month-wise. This analysis will involve decomposing the time-series into its individual components like trend, seasonality, and noise. Additionally, we will look for patterns in price movements during specific months to identify any recurring seasonal effects. To enhance our predictions, we will also incorporate technical indicators into our analysis. Technical indicators, such as moving averages, Relative Strength Index (RSI), and Moving Average Convergence Divergence (MACD), provide valuable information about price momentum and market trends. These indicators can be used as additional features in our machine learning models. With a strong foundation of data exploration, visualization, and time-series analysis, we will now move on to building machine learning models for forecasting the closing price of cryptocurrencies. We will utilize algorithms like Linear Regression, Support Vector Regression, Random Forest Regression, Decision Tree Regression, K-Nearest Neighbors Regression, Adaboost Regression, Gradient Boosting Regression, Extreme Gradient Boosting Regression, Light Gradient Boosting Regression, Catboost Regression, Multi-Layer Perceptron Regression, Lasso Regression, and Ridge Regression to make forecasting. By training our models on historical data, they will learn to recognize patterns and make predictions for future price movements. As part of our machine learning efforts, we will also develop models for predicting daily returns of cryptocurrencies. Daily returns are essential indicators for investors and traders, as they reflect the percentage change in price from one day to the next. By using historical price data and technical indicators as input features, we can build models that forecast daily returns accurately. Throughout the project, we will perform extensive hyperparameter tuning using techniques like Grid Search and Random Search. This will help us identify the best combinations of hyperparameters for each model, optimizing their performance. To validate the accuracy and robustness of our models, we will use various evaluation metrics such as Mean Squared Error (MSE), Mean Absolute Error (MAE), and R-squared. These metrics will provide insights into the model's ability to predict cryptocurrency prices accurately. In conclusion, this project on cryptocurrency price analysis, prediction, and forecasting is a comprehensive exploration of using machine learning with Python to analyze and predict cryptocurrency price movements. By leveraging data visualization, time-series analysis, technical indicators, and machine learning algorithms, we aim to build accurate and reliable models for predicting future price movements and daily returns. The project's outcomes will be valuable for investors, traders, and analysts looking to make informed decisions in the highly volatile and dynamic world of cryptocurrencies. Through rigorous evaluation and validation, we strive to create robust models that can contribute to a better understanding of cryptocurrency market dynamics and support data-driven decision-making.

The Day of the Week and the Month of the Year Effects by Eleftherios Giovanis Pdf

Seminar paper from the year 2008 in the subject Computer Science - Commercial Information Technology, grade: 90.0%, language: English, abstract: In this paper we examine the calendar anomalies in the stock market index of Athens. Specifically we examine the day of the week and the month of the year effects, where we expect negative or lower returns on Monday and the highest average returns on Friday for the day of the week effect and the higher average returns in January, concerning the January effect. For the period we examine we found insignificant returns on Monday, but significant positive and higher average returns on Friday. Also our results are consistent with the literature for the month of the year effect, where we find the highest average returns in January. Furthermore we estimate with ordinary least squares (OLS) and symmetric and asymmetric Generalized Autoregressive Conditional Heteroskedasticity (GARCH) rolling regressions and we conclude that the week day returns are not constant through the time period we examine but are changed. Specifically, while in the first half-period of the rolling regression there are negative returns on Mondays so we observe the day of the week effecting, in the last half-period of the rolling regression Friday presents the highest returns, but the lowest returns are reported on Tuesday and not on Monday, indicating a change shift in the pattern of the day of the week effect. Full programming routines of rolling regressions in EVIEWS and MATLAB software are described.

Development Outlook of Education and Migration by Basant Potnuru,Narender Thakur,Perveen Kumar Pdf

This book describes the movement of un-skilled and skilled workers both within and from India and its fallout on education and development. It furthers the evidence on the contribution of education and international migration in development with specific reference to India as a major source country of migrant population. The book also distinguishes the underlying linkages and distinction between international and internal migration on the one hand and the education and development experience on the other. It brings forth the causes and development experiences of both migrations to a common platform to gauge on their similarities and differences in the lens of education and development. As such, this book contributes to the scant literature on Indian experience of internal and international migration and sheds light on future migration policy and course correction necessary for places and countries of migrant origin.
