The Social Worker's Guide to the Care Act 2014 by Pete Feldon Pdf

The Care Act 2014 is arguably the most significant piece of legislation for social workers who work with adults, since the NHS and Community Care Act 1990. This book presents the information from the act, regulations and statutory guidance in a way that provides social workers with a good understanding of the legislation and how it applies to their role. Making extensive use of case examples that derive from the author’s experience as a social worker, the book highlights the circumstances where professional judgment is required and explores issues that need interpretation such as significant impact on wellbeing. It covers the key stages of the ‘care and support journey' - first contact, assessment of needs, prevention, consideration of eligibility, charging and financial assessment, care and support planning, and review. In addition, other chapters look at significant issues such as safeguarding and working with NHS colleagues. This book helps to improve the ‘legal literacy’ of social workers, i.e. the connecting of legal rules with professional priorities and ethical practice. It achieves this by helping social workers to better understand the legal framework within which they make professional judgements, and to apply their expertise in interpreting the law for the benefit of people with care and support needs. This readable and jargon-free book provides: a solid foundation for social work students in developing a critical understanding of the Care Act and its application, help for experienced social workers with developing the critical reflection necessary to enhance their ability to make professional judgements a source of reference which social workers can use to evaluate their local systems, policies and procedures.

Packed with practice examples, it includes chapters on early childhood education and care, as well as alternatives to school and higher education, covering everything from birth up to the age of 25. It highlights the potential benefits of a range of learning opportunities, from drama and outdoor activities, to bedtime stories and mentoring as well as providing support for teachers in their role as carer. Chapters include key points, case studies, practice points and useful resources. This is a unique evidence-informed practical guide for students and professionals in the fields of social work, social care, psychology and education.

Strengthening OLAF, the European Anti-Fraud Office by Great Britain. Parliament. House of Lords. European Union Committee Pdf

OLAF (the European Anti-Fraud Office) was established by the Commission in 1999, following the collapse of its predecessor UCLAF, and its role is to protect the financial interests of the EU and to fight fraud and corruption within the EU's institutions or within individual EU member states. Its efficiency and effectiveness are currently under review, and the Commission has brought forward a proposal designed to improve OLAF's operational efficiency, improve information flows and protect the rights of individuals under investigation. The Committee's report judges that this proposal is premature and unlikely to enhance OLAF's accountability or independence. It also notes that the future of OLAF has become entwined with the debate over the post of European Public Prosecutor, and that the Commission should not allow this to distract its focus from examining how OLAF can be made more effective in the fight against fraud.
