The Discourse on the Fruits of Recluseship by Anonim Pdf
The Buddha traces the entire progress of a disciple from the first step on the path to the attainment of Nibbana in this second sutta of the Sutta Pitaka, one of the most elevating of the Buddha's discourses. On a full-moon night in Autumn, in reply to a question asked by King Ajatasattu of Magadha, the Buddha expounds the visible fruits of the Buddhist monk's life, sketching the progress of the disciple. "Originating in response to a question whether the life of a recluse is capable of yielding fruits that are visible here and now, the Sāmaññaphala Sutta is intended to explain to the secular world at large why so many “young men of good family” (and women as well) chose to leave behind their homes, wealth, loved ones, and status in order to follow the Sage of the Sakyan clan into homelessness." —Bhikkhu Bodhi

An Analytical Study of Four Nikāyas by Dipak Kumar Barua Pdf
Description: The first four Nikaya-texts belonging to the Suttapitaka of the Pali Tipitaka which contains the sacred sayings of Gotama (Skt. Gautama) Buddha are of inextimable value since they provide important source-materials to study the religio-cultural history of the contemporary period. From the sociological point of view too they are of utmost significance, because they vividly present the daily life of the people of ancient India. Hence the importance of the Nikayas can neither be gainsaid nor exaggerated. In fact, this work contains an outline study of the four Nikayas, namely Dighanikaya, Majjhimanikaya, Samyuttanikaya, and Anguttaranikaya, which belong to the Theravada Pali Canon, on some select aspects in five chapters and three appendices treating of the age of the Nikayas, comparative study between the Sanskrit/Chinese Agamas and Pali Nikayas, their language, Buddha's discourses to the laity, teachings of early Buddhism under the threefold division of Sila, Samadhi and Panna, discussions on administrative, social and economic conditions of ancient India, historical and geographical materials found in the Nikayas, mutual relations of the treatment of similes in these texts. It also includes brief contents of the Suttas of those Nikayas. In the present work, on the whole, an attempt has been made to introduce the first four Nikaya-texts in their entirety. The Discourse on the All-embracing Net of Views by Bhikkhu Bodhi Pdf
The Brahmajala, one of the Buddha’s most important discourses, weaves a net of sixty-two cases capturing all the speculative views on the self and the world. The massive commentary and subcommentary allow for a close in-depth study of the work. The book contains a lengthy treatise on the Theravada conception of the Bodhisattva ideal. The long introduction is itself a modern philosophical commentary on the sutta.

Going for Refuge by Sangharakshita (Bhikshu) Pdf
Going for Refuge to the Three Jewels is what makes one a Buddhist - the ever-deepening act by which one turns from the mundane towards the transcendental, and the definitive act of the Buddhist's life, from which all else follows. The practices, precepts and vows that direct a Buddhist's life-style are all subsidiary to that crucial commitment to the ideals embodied by the Buddha, Dharma and Sangha.

Aṅguttara Nikāya by Anonim Pdf
Drawn from the Anguttara Nikaya, Numerical Discourses of the Buddha brings together teachings of the Buddha ranging from basic ethical observances recommended to the busy man or woman of the world, to the more rigorous instructions on mental training prescribed for the monks and nuns. The Anguttara Nikaya is a part of the Pali Canon, the authorized recension of the Buddha's Word for followers of Theravada Buddhism, the form of Buddhism prevailing in the Buddhist countries of southern Asia.
