Earning Innocence by Andrew Taylor-Troutman Pdf

Think of the most memorable week of your life. Was it tragic? Joyous? Heartbreaking? Inspiring? A combination of emotions swirled together and splattered across your heart, soul, and mind? Reverend James Wheeler writes and reflects on such a monumental week. In the pages of his journal, he searches for peace in the shadows of the past and struggles with his current challenges. A man of tested faith, he hopes in the unseen and wrestles with paradox. As a Moravian pastor, husband, and father, Wheeler strives to embrace his loved ones, even as his anxieties threaten to push them away. Will he glimpse wholeness and harmony? Will he come to know healing? Earning Innocence invites readers to wrestle with such questions and view their lives through the lens of friends, family, and faith. James Wheeler's aha!-moment is our revelation: certain stories are like candlewicks--common, ordinary, and seemingly of little value. Yet the candlewick carries the light.

Memoirs of Innocence & Experience by Innocent (Hondo) Chirawu Pdf

I was born Innocent Murambiwa Hondo on 11 January 1961, in Chinyemba Village, Glendale, Mazoe District of the then Rhodesia. I had an official change of my maternal surname ?Hondo? to my paternal surname ?Chirawu? and acquired the middle name ?Blessed? in 1983. Since my childhood I have always aspired to utilise every opportunity that helps me help my fellowman best. I was brought up in colonial Rhodesia which was dominated by ?divide and rule? politics in favour of the white minority population. As a result the black child?s school was far inferior compared to his white counterpart?s. There was also a deliberate public policy to provide the average black child with an education only adequate for him to perform a subordinate role to his ?white master? and only 12% of the black children were expected to proceed to secondary education. These would form the ?elite? part of the society taking up occupations like nurses, teachers, clerks, agricultural extension officers and others. I was very fortunate to fall into the category of the ?elite? group, who made it through the bottleneck system into secondary education ? Salvation Army?s Howard Secondary School which was a syndicate examination centre for The University of Cambridge whereby GCE ?O?Level examinations were set and marked at that reputable university. I sat for those Exams in November/December 1978 and passed with grades B and C in 8 subjects including Maths, Science and English ? thus obtaining a University of Cambridge GCE certificate in First Division. I later on proceeded to a private institution, Ranche House College where I did my English and Sociology at Advanced level. My first job after school was working as a bank clerk for Standard Chartered Bank from May 1980 to Sept 1981. I then intercalated from banking to study for my Diploma in Theology at the International Bible Training Centre (Lagos) in 1982, resumed banking for a stint then did my initial teacher training from 1984 to 1987. I then taught Woodwork, RE and English in Zimbabwean secondary schools for 11 years, during which period I rose through the ranks of being an ordinary class teacher, head of department (Religious Education & English) and deputy head teacher. While in full-time teaching, I managed to study for a degree in educational administration, planning and policy studies as well as a part one in BA Media studies through Zimbabwe Open University ? the latter which was interrupted by socio-politico-economic problems in Zimbabwe that time. I was doing all those study programmes paying the fees from my salary and without a penny of assistance from the government. In Zimbabwe switching from being a teacher to being a journalist for the independent press was and still is, like jumping from the frying pan into the fire. In April,1999, I then joined the Daily News, the then Zimbabwe?s once most popular and best seller tabloid later banned and defunct from 2003-2010, where I served as a subeditor-cum-proofreader until the time I migrated to England in December 2001. By the time I left Zimbabwe there was every sign that the future of my colleagues, our newspaper and I was very gloom. After the bombings of our offices and printing press, our then editor-in-chief, Geoff Nyarota announced that due to the political situation and the hostility that time we were experiencing, he could not guarantee our safety anymore. So, I had no choice but sell my family property, buy a ticket, flew into self exile in England, and I have always lived here since then. Later on I called my family over to join my stay in the country. My grandmother, my childhood mentor

Innocent Bystanders? Monetary Policy and Inequality in the U.S. by Mr.Olivier Coibion,Mr.Yuriy Gorodnichenko,Mr.Lorenz Kueng,Mr.John Silvia Pdf

We study the effects and historical contribution of monetary policy shocks to consumption and income inequality in the United States since 1980. Contractionary monetary policy actions systematically increase inequality in labor earnings, total income, consumption and total expenditures. Furthermore, monetary shocks can account for a significant component of the historical cyclical variation in income and consumption inequality. Using detailed micro-level data on income and consumption, we document the different channels via which monetary policy shocks affect inequality, as well as how these channels depend on the nature of the change in monetary policy.

Innocent Until Nominated by G. Calvin MacKenzie Pdf

According to outspoken presidential scholar Cal Mackenzie, the presidential appointments process is a national disgrace. It encourages bullies and emboldens demagogues, silences the voices of responsibility, and nourishes the lowest forms of partisan combat. It uses innocent citizens as pawns in the petty games of politicians and stains the reputations of good people. It routinely violates fundamental democratic principles, undermines the quality and consistency of public management, and breaches simple decency. In short, at a time when the quality of political leadership in government matters more than ever, the procedures for ensuring that quality are less reliable than ever. How did we get into this distressing condition? What is wrong with the current appointments process? And, most important, what can we do to fix it? Innocent Until Nominated brings together ten of the country¡¯s leading scholars of government and politics to explore recent changes in the presidential appointments process and their effects on the ability of contemporary presidents to recruit and retain talented leaders. Each chapter provides a special focus on a range of topics including presidential transitions, the obstacle course of Senate confirmation, the morass of forms and questionnaires, and the exasperating, exhausting, and humiliating experiences of recent appointees. For scholars, students, and potential presidential recruits, the book offers a candid and revealing look at the failures of the appointments process... and how it has become a serious impediment to effective leadership of the executive branch. Contributors include Sarah A. Binder (Brookings Institution and George Washington University), E. J. Dionne Jr. (Brookings Institution and Washington Post), George C. Edwards III (Bush School of Government and Public Service, Texas A&M University), Stephen Hess (Brookings Institution), Judith M. Labiner (Brookings Institution), Paul C. Guilty Or Innocent by Don Rossignol Pdf

Our government has always maintained a certain level of secrecy when it comes to the internal workings of its organization. In the past our government has closed their eyes to certain actions by the CIA, FBI, and others. We as a people, along with the government, justified these actions with the thought of necessity in order to protect the freedom of this country. These actions we believed to be for the greater good of all people. However, when the government steps over the line and commits unlawful acts only for the greater good of a few people, the necessity can no longer be looked at as justified. This book is intended to have the reader attempt to answer the unanswered questions. It is written as though it were a trial. In a normal trial the prosecution would present its case first, and then the defense would present its case. By law the defendant is innocent until proven guilty. This is a case of "You, the people of the United States vs. the Bush Administration." There are many defendants in this case, most notable being president George W. Bush. For the past four years, the Bush administration has put its case to the people of this country for its actions within our borders and around the world. The Bush administration has placed many items into evidence, called many witnesses, and has asked you, the people of the United States, to trust them without question. The Bush administration, or the defense, rested its case with the reelection of President Bush. Now, it is time for the prosecution to present its case. I am not going to ask you to do any more than look at the case from both sides. If you need to refer back to the defense's case, or testimony, you will be able to review many speeches and addresses by President Bush and members of his administration, which will be placed into evidence. What I am asking you to do is use your common sense. At the end of this case, many questions will be asked. Answer those questions, and then you decide the guilt or innocence of the defendants. You are the jury. It is up to you to decide the fate of this country and those beyond our borders. No man is above the law, even if that man is the President of the United States.

The Innocence Commission by Jon B. Gould Pdf

Beyond Exonerating the Innocent: Author on WAMU Radio Convicted Yet Innocent: The Legal Times Review Choice Outstanding Academic Title for 2008 DNA testing and advances in forensic science have shaken the foundations of the U.S. criminal justice system. One of the most visible results is the exoneration of inmates who were wrongly convicted and incarcerated, many of them sentenced to death for crimes they did not commit. This has caused a quandary for many states: how can claims of innocence be properly investigated and how can innocent inmates be reliably distinguished from the guilty? In answer, some states have created “innocence commissions” to establish policies and provide legal assistance to the improperly imprisoned. The Innocence Commission describes the creation and first years of the Innocence Commission for Virginia (ICVA), the second innocence commission in the nation and the first to conduct a systematic inquiry into all cases of wrongful conviction. Written by Jon B. Gould, the Chair of the ICVA, who is a professor of justice studies and an attorney, the author focuses on twelve wrongful conviction cases to show how and why wrongful convictions occur, what steps legal and state advocates took to investigate the convictions, how these prisoners were ultimately freed, and what lessons can be learned from their experiences. Gould recounts how a small band of attorneys and other advocates — in Virginia and around the country — have fought wrongful convictions in court, advanced the subject of wrongful convictions in the media, and sought to remedy the issue of wrongful convictions in the political arena. He makes a strong case for the need for Innocence Commissions in every state, showing that not only do Innocence Commissions help to identify weaknesses in the criminal justice system and offer workable improvements, but also protect society by helping to ensure that actual perpetrators are expeditiously identified, arrested, and brought to trial. Everyone has an interest in preventing wrongful convictions, from police officers and prosecutors, who seek the latest and best investigative techniques, to taxpayers, who want an efficient criminal justice system, to suspects who are erroneously pursued and sometimes convicted. Free of legal jargon and written for a general audience, The Innocence Commission is instructive, informative, and highly compelling reading.

Innocent by Kevin McLaughlin,Opwonya Innocent Pdf

Opwonya Innocent was born three years after unrest started in northern Uganda and three years before the formation of the anti-government Lord's Resistance Army led by Joseph Kony. Death came to his village when he was only seven, and soon his parents required him to sleep miles away from home for safety. At ten he was abducted by Kony's army and taken to a training camp for child soldiers, where brutality and violence became his new reality. After a narrow escape he was taken by government soldiers to a counseling center before returning to his family, now without the guidance of a father. Since that time, Innocent has exhibited extraordinary resilience, pushing through these and many other challenges, ultimately securing a position which has allowed him to come to the aid of countless children in Uganda facing much of the same hardship. The book reveals, in his own words, Innocent's struggle to heal from the trauma he experienced, a growing awareness of a desire to help others and his tireless effort to realize meaningful, positive change. Innocent's inspiring story embodies the triumph of hope and determination over pain, trauma and fear.

Critical Practice by Martin McQuillan Pdf

This book is available as open access through the Bloomsbury Open Access programme and is available on www.bloomsburycollections.com. What is the relationship between theory and practice in the creative arts today? In Critical Practice, Martin McQuillan offers a critical interrogation of the idea of practice-led research. He goes beyond the recent vocabulary of research management to consider the more interesting question of the emergence of a cultural space in which philosophy, theory, history and practice are becoming indistinguishable. McQuillan considers the work of a number of writers and thinkers who cross the divide between theoretical and creative practice, including Alain Badiou and Terry Eagleton, and the longer tradition of 'theory-writing' that runs through the work of Hélène Cixous, Roland Barthes and Louis Althusser. His aim is to elucidate the contemporary ramifications of a relationship that has been contested throughout the long history of philosophy, from Plato's dialogues to Derrida's 'Envois'.

Innocence, Knowledge, and Wonder by Osho Pdf

One of the greatest spiritual teachers of the twentieth century encourages you to embrace your childlike curiosity and reconnect it to your adult sensibilities. Innocence, Knowledge, and Wonder: What Happened to the Sense of Wonder I Felt as a Child? looks to each person’s last state of innocence—childhood—to recover the ability to truly be curious. Osho discusses why it is important to look to our “inner child” and how it can help you understand the person you have become. Osho challenges readers to examine and break free of the conditioned belief systems and prejudices that limit their capacity to enjoy life in all its richness. He has been described by the Sunday Times of London as one of the “1000 Makers of the 20th Century” and by Sunday Mid-Day (India) as one of the ten people—along with Gandhi, Nehru, and Buddha—who have changed the destiny of India. Since his death in 1990, the influence of his teachings continues to expand, reaching seekers of all ages in virtually every country of the world.

IRS Innocent Spouse Tax Relief by Attorney Robert Schaller Pdf

Attorney Robert Schaller and the Schaller Law Firm offer IRS Innocent Spouse Tax Relief to tax professionals. This book is a scholarly treatise on the IRS program that relieves a requesting spouse (or former spouse) from joint and several tax liability. Innocent spouse relief is offered on equitable grounds or when the tax is attributable to a non-requesting spouse’s bad behavior – including fraud, income concealment, income misstatement, and unwarranted expense deductions or tax credits. This book offers a deep dive into the U.S. Tax Code, Treasury regulations, court opinions, the Internal Revenue Manual, and IRS Revenue Procedures that comprise the IRS’ Innocent Spouse Tax Relief program. This is a resource book for tax professionals. Congress authorized relief to the “innocent” spouse who would otherwise be inequitably harmed by the non-requesting spouse. The three types of relief from joint and several tax liability are analyzed with relevant citations to the U.S. Tax Code, Treasury regulations, court opinions, the Internal Revenue Manual, and IRS Revenue Procedures. A separate discussion is presented for Innocent Spouse Relief, Separation of Liability Relief, and Equitable Relief, including a line-by-line analysis of IRS Form 8857, Request for Innocent Spouse Relief. An 8-page Table of Contents, a 19-page Table of Authorities, and a 9-page Index aides a tax professional’s scholarly understanding. The book also explores premature and untimely relief claims, appellate review of rejected claims, and refund claims after relief is granted. IRS Innocent Spouse Tax Relief also explores the IRS collection process with a discussion of IRS levies, tax liens, installment agreements, the offer in compromise program, and currently not collectible status. Finally, powers of attorney and third-party authorizations are examined, including a line-by-line analysis of IRS Form 2848, Power of Attorney and IRS Form 8821, Tax Information Authorization.

Born Innocent by Michael J. Sullivan Pdf

Over seven percent of all children in the United States--more than 5 million children--have experienced a parental incarceration, and an estimated 2.7 million children currently have a parent who is incarcerated. An additional 5 million children under age 18 live with at least one parent who is unauthorized to be in the United States and faces deportation. Children and other dependents suffer the collateral consequences of "preventive justice" measures increasingly used by liberal democratic countries to combat a broad range of suspected crime and anti-state activities. But what does the state owe to the innocent dependents of accused caregivers? In Born Innocent, Michael J. Sullivan explores the impact of vicarious punishment on children, with a particular focus on children in socioeconomically disadvantaged and racialized communities that are disproportionately subject to family separation based on their identity, allegiances, and immigration status. Sullivan advocates a turn from retribution to rehabilitation for convicted offenders, with a view towards helping them to become more effective caregivers who can continue to support their dependents during their sentence. Born Innocent goes beyond the children's rights literature on the collateral consequences of punishment to consider how "punishment drift" creates problems for both retributive and utilitarian theories of punishment. He draws on care ethics theory to widen our understanding of the range of collateral victims of punishment as well as possible rehabilitative and restorative measures. Sullivan also considers the limits of this approach, especially where it pertains to offenders who victimize their families, and those who resist rehabilitation and persist in anti-state actions that harm others. Original and compelling, Born Innocent provides one of the first unified treatments of state-sponsored family separation and its impact on disadvantaged citizens and immigrants.
