Data Mining in Time Series Databases by Mark Last,Abraham Kandel,Horst Bunke Pdf

Adding the time dimension to real-world databases produces Time Series Databases (TSDB) and introduces new aspects and difficulties to data mining and knowledge discovery. This book covers the state-of-the-art methodology for mining time series databases. The novel data mining methods presented in the book include techniques for efficient segmentation, indexing, and classification of noisy and dynamic time series. A graph-based method for anomaly detection in time series is described and the book also studies the implications of a novel and potentially useful representation of time series as strings. The problem of detecting changes in data mining models that are induced from temporal databases is additionally discussed. Contents: A Survey of Recent Methods for Efficient Retrieval of Similar Time Sequences (H M Lie); Indexing of Compressed Time Series (E Fink & K Pratt); Boosting Interval-Based Literal: Variable Length and Early Classification (J J Rodriguez Diez); Segmenting Time Series: A Survey and Novel Approach (E Keogh et al.); Indexing Similar Time Series under Conditions of Noise (M Vlachos et al.); Classification of Events in Time Series of Graphs (H Bunke & M Kraetzl); Median Strings--A Review (X Jiang et al.); Change Detection in Classfication Models of Data Mining (G Zeira et al.). Readership: Graduate students, reseachers and practitioners in the fields of data mining, machine learning, databases and statistics.

ThePaci?c-AsiaConferenceonKnowledgeDiscoveryandDataMining(PAKDD) has been held every year since 1997. PAKDD 2008, the 12th in the series, was heldatOsaka,JapanduringMay20–23,2008.PAKDDisaleadinginternational conference in the area of data mining. It provides an international forum for - searchers and industry practitioners to share their new ideas, original research results, and practical development experiences from all KDD-related areas - cluding data mining, data warehousing, machine learning, databases, statistics, knowledge acquisition, automatic scienti?c discovery, data visualization, causal induction, and knowledge-based systems. This year we received a total of 312 research papers from 34 countries and regions in Asia, Australia, North America, South America, Europe, and Africa. Every submitted paper was rigorously reviewed by two or three reviewers, d- cussed by the reviewers under the supervision of an Area Chair, and judged by the Program Committee Chairs. When there was a disagreement, the Area Chair and/or the Program Committee Chairs provided an additional review. Thus, many submissions were reviewed by four experts. The Program Comm- tee members were deeply involved in a highly selective process. As a result, only approximately11.9%ofthe312submissionswereacceptedaslongpapers,12.8% of them were accepted as regular papers, and 11.5% of them were accepted as short papers.

Advances in Database Technology - EDBT 2004 by Elisa Bertino,Stavros Christodoulakis,Dimitris Plexousakis,Christophides Vassilis,Manolis Koubarakis,Klemens Böhm,Elena Ferrari Pdf

The 9th International Conference on Extending Database Technology, EDBT 2004, was held in Heraklion, Crete, Greece, during March 14–18, 2004. The EDBT series of conferences is an established and prestigious forum for the exchange of the latest research results in data management. Held every two years in an attractive European location, the conference provides unique opp- tunities for database researchers, practitioners, developers, and users to explore new ideas, techniques, and tools, and to exchange experiences. The previous events were held in Venice, Vienna, Cambridge, Avignon, Valencia, Konstanz, and Prague. EDBT 2004 had the theme “new challenges for database technology,” with the goal of encouraging researchers to take a greater interest in the current exciting technological and application advancements and to devise and address new research and development directions for database technology. From its early days, database technology has been challenged and advanced by new uses and applications, and it continues to evolve along with application requirements and hardware advances. Today’s DBMS technology faces yet several new challenges. Technological trends and new computation paradigms, and applications such as pervasive and ubiquitous computing, grid computing, bioinformatics, trust management, virtual communities, and digital asset management, to name just a few, require database technology to be deployed in a variety of environments and for a number of di?erent purposes. Such an extensive deployment will also require trustworthy, resilient database systems, as well as easy-to-manage and ?exible ones, to which we can entrust our data in whatever form they are.
