Energy Conservation in the Process Industries by W. F. Kenney Pdf

Energy Conservation in the Process Industries provides insight into ways of identifying more important energy efficiency improvements. This book demonstrates how the principles can be employed to practical advantage. Organized into 12 chapters, this book begins with an overview of the energy situation and a background in thermodynamics. This text then describes a staged method to improved energy use to understand where the energy goes and how to calculate the value of losses. Other chapters consider improving facilities based on an understanding of the overall site energy system. This book discusses as well the fundamental process and equipment improvements. The final chapter deals with systematic and sophisticated design methods as well as provides some guidelines and checklists for energy conservation items. This book is a valuable resource for mechanical, lead process, and plant engineers involved in energy conservation. Process designers, plant managers, process researchers, and accountants will also find this book extremely useful.

Energy Efficiency And Conservation In Mexico by Oscar Guzmán Pdf

In comparing the degree of efficiency in energy production and the uses to which energy resources are allocated in Mexico with those in other countries, this book addresses three basic questions: What are the major reasons for differences in energy efficiency between industrial economies and a newly industrializing country like Mexico? To what extent is energy conservation possible in the Mexican economy? And what are the social and economic benefits of more efficient use and conservation of energy in comparison with their costs? Using the history and operations of two state-owned energy agencies, PEMEX and the Federal Electricity Comission, as case studies, the authors explore the patterns of energy use in all major sectors of the economy and discuss the prospects for energy-saving policies between the mid-1980s and the end of the century.

Energy Conservation by Giacomo Spadoni Pdf

This book concentrates on energy conservation which is the practice of decreasing the quantity of energy used. It may be achieved through efficient energy use, in which case energy use is decreased while achieving a similar outcome, or by reduced consumption of energy services. Energy conservation may result in increase of financial capital, environmental value, national security, personal security, and human comfort. Individuals and organisations that are direct consumers of energy may want to conserve energy in order to reduce energy costs and promote economic security. Industrial and commercial users may want to increase efficiency and thus maximise profit. Energy conservation is an important element of energy policy. Energy conservation reduces the energy consumption and energy demand per capita, and thus offsets the growth in energy supply needed to keep up with population growth. This reduces the rise in energy costs, and can reduce the need for new power plants, and energy imports. The reduced energy demand can provide more flexibility in choosing the most preferred methods of energy production. By reducing emissions, energy conservation is an important part of lessening climate change. Energy conservation facilitates the replacement of non-renewable resources with renewable energy. Energy conservation is often the most economical solution to energy shortages, and is a more environmentally benign alternative to increased energy production.

Energy Efficiency and Conservation in the Developing World by World Bank Pdf

There is a congruence of several forces in the developing world that makes very timely the formulation of a strategy to address energy efficiency and conservation issues better. Many countries are becoming receptive to reforming the way energy is produced and consumed as they experience (a) rapidly growing demand for energy; (b) major constraints on available energy financing; (c) increased pressures to sustain the environment; (d) poor energy sector performance and unsatisfied customers; and (e) a reappraisal of the roles of government and of the public and private sectors in development. These factors are forcing developing countries to address long-neglected issues of energy wastage in production and end use. The World Bank now has an enhanced opportunity to further assist developing countries to improve their energy efficiency and conservation policies and practices. The paper provides a background on the evolution of developed versus developing-country energy efficiency and summarizes World Bank experience. It outlines the growing energy demand in developing countries and the accompanying financial and environmental problems that bring energy-efficiency issues to the forefront. The paper then sets out the potential for improved energy efficiency and the main reasons that efficiency has been so poor. Finally, it summarizes the priority actions for achieving energy efficiency in developing countries and sets out a four-point program for the World Bank.
