That's me and it's been me for the past three years--then they'll get off his back. Hey. I'm Emma Lawson and I'm about to ruin Christmas for Mrs. Merry Christmas and her entire family. Tall Tales at the General Store by Mary Greene Lee Pdf

Enjoy the bygone days of a time precariously nestled between the comforts of peace and the ever-present threat of impending war in 1939. Meander the dirt roads converging at the general store, where tall tales flow freely. A young parson from the Northeast arrives and receives an education from the mountaineers far beyond his "preacher schooling." The unsolicited courtin' assistance pushes his patience to the limits. Laugh with six brothers as they unconventionally live balancing compassion with tomfoolery; gaiety with grief; all while holding fast to a simple yet steadfast faith. A new resident arrives, not fitting the mold of a Greenbed woman; she clings to high fashion and longs for the social life she enjoyed in the big city. Her actions and attitudes alienate the residents from her husband's struggling store until she is forced to put her life into the hands of the most unlikely character in the mountain. The war touched the mountain community in a shocking manner they'd never imagined possible.

Escape into ten tempting stories of the holiday season! Roguish lords and lovely ladies find their happily-ever-afters amidst the warmth and glitter of a historical Christmas. Whether you prefer a dashing spy, a haughty prince, or a scoundrel who is more than he seems, the lord you're looking for is just a page turn away… A FIRST FOOTER FOR LADY JANE (*mild) Jennifer Ashley When Grandfather MacDonald predicts Lady Jane will marry this year’s First-Footer–the first guest into the house on Hogmanay—she dismisses the notion. Her childhood sweetheart is fighting on the Peninsula, and she can’t imagine marrying anyone but the staid Major Barnett. But when the clock strikes midnight, and Hogmanay begins, a knock at the front door changes Jane’s life forever. LORD LOCRYN AND THE PIXIE’S KISS (*mild) Deb Marlowe When is a kiss actually a curse? When an irate Pixie forbids you to kiss the wrong girl — ever. A DUKE BY ANY OTHER NAME (***hot) Claire Delacroix The Duke of Inverfyre disguises himself as a vain fop in order to catch a notorious jewel thief, which proves most inconvenient when he meets a lovely maiden who might steal his heart under other circumstance. But Daphne Goodenham is not deterred by his outrageous clothing and foppish manner. Is she a fortune hunter indifferent to appearances, a perceptive lady who sees his hidden truth, or an ally of the villain? At the very least, she is a perilous and untimely distraction... A COUNTERFEIT CHRISTMAS SUMMONS (*mild) Ava Stone Lady Emma Whitton has decided its time to take her future in her own hands. She has been in love with Viscount Heathfield since she was in leading strings. Unfortunately, it's been almost that long since she's laid eyes on her brother's old friend and vice versa. Tired of waiting for him to remember her, Emma pens a holiday invitation (in her brother's hand) to Heathfield and waits as patiently as she is able for her one true love to arrive… LADY HOLLY’S JOLLY CHRISTMAS (**medium) Nadine Millard Lady Holly has no interest in the Christmas season, and hasn’t since the tragic death of her mother. The widowed Earl of Stockton has as much reason to despise the season as Holly does. But fate and the arrival of a mysterious old lady have plans for these two. Will Lord Stockton learn to open his heart? And will Lady Holly finally have a jolly Christmas? CHRISTMAS KISSES (*mild) Nicole Zoltack Lady Anna has her sights on a scoundrel of a duke. Her mother insists on Anna befriending a marquess’s son, a man Anna finds far too rude. Is either gentleman the right one for Anna? THE DUKE WAGER (***hot) Eve Pendle Her family's Christmas eve bankruptcy means aspiring doctor Miss Tamara Patterson must save them with a marriage to a wealthy man. Any man except her longtime nemesis, The Duke of Newton. Until he offers her a wager she can't refuse… A PRINCE FOR YULETIDE (*mild) Anthea Lawson Miss Eliana Banning attends the Midwinter Masque. There, she meets a gentleman in wolf’s clothing who might prove to be her heart’s desire…or her worst enemy. RESCUED BY A CHRISTMAS KISS (**medium) Larissa Lyons Seeking shelter from danger during an ice storm, an unemployed companion barges in on an unsuspecting widower. Thanks to his mischievous, superior cat, love blooms during the topsy-turvied days before Christmas. MAKING MERRY (*mild) Erica Ridley Holiday romance blossoms in Christmas, England, between theatre director Miss Estelle Blaire and Marlowe Castle solicitor Mr. Aaron Thompson… discover the 12 Dukes of Christmas series with this prequel novella! Love, Lucas by Chantele Sedgwick Pdf

A 2015 Whitney Award Nominee! A powerful story of loss, second chances, and first love, reminiscent of Sarah Dessen and John Green. When Oakley Nelson loses her older brother, Lucas, to cancer, she thinks she’ll never recover. Between her parents’ arguing and the battle she’s fighting with depression, she feels nothing inside but a hollow emptiness. When Mom suggests they spend a few months in California with Aunt Jo, Oakley isn’t sure a change of scenery will alter anything, but she’s willing to give it a try. In California, Oakley discovers a sort of safety and freedom in Aunt Jo’s beach house. Once they’re settled, Mom hands her a notebook full of letters addressed to her—from Lucas. As Oakley reads one each day, she realizes how much he loved her, and each letter challenges her to be better and to continue to enjoy her life. He wants her to move on. If only it were that easy. But then a surfer named Carson comes into her life, and Oakley is blindsided. He makes her feel again. As she lets him in, she is surprised by how much she cares for him, and that’s when things get complicated. How can she fall in love and be happy when Lucas never got the chance to do those very same things? With her brother’s dying words as guidance, Oakley knows she must learn to listen and trust again. But will she have to leave the past behind to find happiness in the future? Things Are Against Us by Lucy Ellmann Pdf

'There are three kinds of strike I'd recommend: a housework strike, a labour strike, and a sex strike. I can't wait for the first two.' Things Are Against Us is the first collection of essays from Booker Prize-shortlisted Lucy Ellmann. Bold, angry, despairing and very, very funny, these essays cover everything – from matriarchy to environmental catastrophe to Little House on the Prairie. Ellmann calls for a moratorium on air travel, rages against bras, gives Doris Day and Agatha Christie a drubbing, and pleads for sanity in a world that – well, a world that spent four years in the company of Donald Trump, that 'tremendously sick, terrible, nasty, lowly, truly pathetic, reckless, sad, weak, lazy, incompetent, third-rate, clueless, not smart, dumb as a rock, all talk, wacko, zero-chance lying liar'. Things Are Against Us is electric. It's vital. These are essays bursting with energy, and reading them feels like sticking your hand in the mains socket. Lucy Ellmann is the writer we need to guide us through these crazy times.

How the River Ruined Me by K. Lawson Pdf

Water ruined me. Water bubbling over rocks, carving caves into the rock bones of Missouri. Water frozen in icicles a hundred feet long. Floating on quiet water with a spinning leaf beside me. Jumping into cold water on July days. Drinking pure, sweet glacier-cold spring water. The river was freedom and at the same time stability. I spent hours alone but never lonely with water whispering to me, holding me, playing with me, teaching me. I was ruined for the real world from an early age. Southern Missouri is one of those regions that determinedly resist civilization. While we have our cell phones, our satellite TVs and our computers, daily life is still slow and patient and quiet. Like the river, we cant be pushed. During the sixties, I was a barefoot urchin playing in the woods of Shannon County along the tiny Jacks Fork River in southern Missouri. My parents and the bank owned the patch of woods where we lived and worked. We expected to continue to live and work there for a very long time. As people do when they find a place that suits them, we attached ourselves to the place as tightly as lichen to trees. We planted flowers and bushes. We made plans. The Rock House was home base. No less a force than the American government interrupted our plans by declaring eminent domain, and making a park out of our home. This application of eminent domain was one of the first used to acquire recreational property. Today, as we watch the expanding applications of eminent domain, my tale can be considered a cautionary one. Some can point to the park that resulted and see what was gained. My purpose is to show a bit of what was lost.
