Existing scholarship, which presupposes "Judaism" as the appropriate framework, views the Enochic heaven as reflecting the temple in Jerusalem, with God's house replicating its architecture and the angels and Enoch functioning like priests. Yet recent research shows the Judeans constituted an ethnic group, and this view encourages a fresh examination of 1 Enoch 1-36. The actual model for heaven proves to be a king in his court surrounded by his courtiers. The major textual features are explicable in this perspective, whereas the temple-and-priests model is unconvincing. The author was a member of a nontemple, scribal group in Judea that possessed distinctive astronomical knowledge, promoted Enoch as its exemplar, and was involved in the wider sociopolitical world of their time.

The second part of this book is meant to give a general description of what heaven looks like, and is an adaptation based on the "Book of Enoch" and the revelation that Enoch receives from the Lord God, as the archangels lead Enoch through the various dimensions of the heavens showing him the wonders that exists there. The third part of this book described in the last two chapters is an adaptation from the Bible and the "Book of Enoch" regarding the revelation that Enoch receives about the Throne of the God, and the revelation of Jesus the Christ, the Son of God, the Son of Man. The work in this book is not the original "Book of Enoch" letter by letter, but is an adaptation taken from the "Book of Enoch" and the Holy Bible. This book is written in story form and is also a form of poetry; and is not meant to be considered the cannon of Holy Scripture.

The volume contains the papers read at the 51st Colloquium Biblicum Lovaniense (July 31 - August 2, 2002) dedicated to the study of the theme of Wisdom and Apocalypticism in the Dead Sea Scrolls and in the biblical tradition in general. The "Main papers" and some of the "Offered papers" have been thematically grouped in four parts. Part I comprises four articles dealing with the relationship between wisdom and apocalypticism in the Scrolls compared to the biblical tradition.
