Eternal Spring by Iris Kain Pdf

A young man with an extraordinary gift. A zealous commune isolated from the world. What could possibly go wrong? Fifteen-year-old Joshua Moses has spent his life nestled in the cradle of the Eternal Spring. His commune family doesn’t know he harbors a dark and powerful secret. If they find out, they might hail him as a prophet—or cast him out forever. The Spring is all Joshua has ever known, and he believes in its message with his whole heart. However, he senses it stands in jeopardy because of a terrible secret the Reverend has been hiding from his flock. Marshall Hudson is an Army sergeant with a stellar career history and intuition he’s learned never to ignore. As he nears retirement, strange dreams summon him to the south. What lies ahead for him there is unknown, but Marshall has never shied away from danger. He hangs up his uniform and heads to the place in his visions. What he discovers is unlike anything he expected. There is a darkness hidden in Eternal Spring, one hungry for them all. Marshall and Joshua are the only ones capable of stopping this imminent danger. And Joshua has a plan to keep the commune alive. One that uses his power at any cost.

City of Eternal Spring by Afaa Michael Weaver Pdf

Winner of the 2015 Phillis Wheatley Book Award (poetry category) This is the final book in the Plum Flower Trilogy by Afaa Michael Weaver, published by the University of Pittsburgh Press. The two earlier books, The Plum Flower Dance: Poems 1985 to 2005 and The Government of Nature, reveal similar themes that address the author’s personal experience with childhood abuse through the context of Daoist renderings of nature as a metaphor for the human body, with an eye to recovery and forgiveness in a very eclectic spiritual life. City of Eternal Spring chronicles Weaver’s travels abroad in Taiwan and China, as well as showing the limits of cultural influence.

The Light of Eternal Spring by Angel Di Zhang Pdf

Angel Di Zhang's intensely cinematic debut novel travels from the streets of New York City to northeast China, on the trail of a young photographer who needs to reconcile with her dead mother before she is able to see the world again. Amy Hilton, born Wu Aimee in the tiny Chinese village of Eternal Spring, has been living and working as a photographer in New York City for so long she’s started to dream in English. When in the fall of 1999 she receives a letter from her sister, written in her birth tongue of Manchu, she needs to take it to a Chinatown produce vendor to get it translated. And so it is this stranger who tells Amy that her mother has died of a broken heart. Amy blames herself. How could she not? Her mother has never recovered from her oldest daughter leaving her, first for school, then to pursue her art, and finally to marry a white man. Vowing to be there for her mother in death as she hasn't been in life, she books a flight to China. Haunted by the folk stories her mother told her about a shaman's journey to the underworld to retrieve her child, Amy undertakes a quest that strips away all the elements of her new identity, leaving her ready to make amends. But when she finally reunites with her family, things are far different than she remembers, and her loved ones are less than thrilled to welcome their prodigal daughter home. Interwoven with indelible scenes from Amy's childhood, The Light of Eternal Spring is a tenderly told story about leaving home and returning again, and about forgetting where you come from until you can't forget any longer. Blending playful magical realism with the family balancing acts all immigrants and artists know so well, Angel Di Zhang creates a nuanced portrait of family lost and family found, of the transformative power of art, and of the need to transform yourself in order to make art that's true.

Rodin's Art by the late Albert E. Elsen,Rosalyn Frankel Jamison Pdf

The late Albert Elsen was the first American scholar to study seriously the work of the French sculptor Auguste Rodin, and the person most responsible for a revival of interest in the artist as a modern innovator--after years during which the sculpture had been dismissed as so much Victorian bathos. After a fortuitous meeting with the financier, philanthropist, and art collector B. Gerald Cantor, Elsen helped Cantor to build up a major collection of Rodin's work. A large part of this collection, consisting of more than 200 pieces, was donated to the Stanford Museum by Mr. Cantor, who died recently. In size it is surpassed only the by the Mus?e Rodin in Paris and rivaled only by the collection in Philadelphia. In scope the collection is unique in having been carefully selected to present a balanced view of Rodin's work throughout his life. Rodin's Art encompasses a lifetime's thoughts on Rodin's career, surveying the artist's accomplishments through the detailed discussion of each object in the collection. It will begin with essays on the formation of the collection, the reception of Rodin's work, and his casting techniques. The entries that follow are arranged topically and include extensive discussions of Rodin's major projects.

A Jesuit Garden in Beijing and Early Modern Chinese Culture by Hui Zou Pdf

In this volume, Hui Zou analyzes historical, architectural, visual, literary, and philosophical perspectives on the Western-styled garden that formed part of the great Yuanming Yuan complex in Beijing, constructed during the Qing dynasty. Designed and built in the late eighteenth century by Italian and French Jesuits, the garden described in this book was a wonderland of multistoried buildings, fountains, labyrinths, and geometrical hills. It even included an open-air theater. Through detailed examination of historical literature and representations, Zou analyzes the ways in which the Jesuits accommodated their design within the Chinese cultural context. He shows how an especially important element of their approach was the application of a linear perspective—the "line-method"—to create the jing, the Chinese concept of the bounded bright view of a garden scene. Hui Zou's book demonstrates how Jesuit metaphysics fused with Chinese cosmology and broadens our understanding of cultural and religious encounters in early Chinese modernity. It presents an intriguing reflection on the interaction between Western metaphysics and the poetical tradition of Chinese culture. The volume will be of interest to scholars and students in a variety of fields, including literature, philosophy, architecture, landscape and urban studies, and East-West comparative cultural studies.

It is about the miraculous nature of creation, the joy it brings, and how it inspires us to praise God. Things take a turn, however, when just one person decides that he knows better. It's a somewhat sombre tale, but it is meant to inspire people's faith and hope in God.

The Son of Eternity by Munayem Mayenin Pdf

This collection is compelling, passionate, and full of philosophical and poetic discourse, soul searching in the cosmosian theatre of life in the infinite universe. Mayenin lives the modern life and drinks its freely offered hemlock yet comes out with something that makes him claim that he has achieved "moment's eternity," and even though the twenty-first century has not brought in respite for minds and souls, there are still human hearts which can demand and claim to be sons of eternity. The Son of Eternity is romantic yet tragic in the heartfelt heartaches of modern life and it has a universal sparkle of life and humanity to which Mayenin roots himself deeply with deep-hearted conviction and passion. It is a collection that is nothing but a poetic declaration of a poet, who claims to be a citizen of the mother universe to which the beautiful blue planet is the beating heart.
