Fifteen Point Nine by Holly Dobbie Pdf

No one at school knew that fifteen-year-old Aggie and her mother were hoarders until the Idiot Boys. That made her even more a target of bullies than she was before. At home, aka The Dump, her loneliness and despair are further punctuated by her mother’s alcoholism, neglect, and paranoia. But Aggie is a warrior and she devises a plan to fight back —?a plan that enlists a few of the other misfits at school. The plan isn’t an easy one, though, and when she is beaten by a group of girls, she finds strength and encouragement from some unlikely sources. Will it be enough to turn her life around? And will she somehow be able to save her mother, who continues a downward spiral of neglect?

On to the Asteroid by Travis S. Taylor,Les Johnson Pdf

LOOMING DESTRUCTION FROM SPACE! It's the beginning of a new golden age of space exploration. Finally, humanity is taking the commercialization of space to the next level—mining asteroids. The new gold rush of the commercial space era has begun. Another commercial venture, an attempt to put a hotel on the Moon, is seeking the space tourism gold of the ultra wealthy. And it seems as if the dream of finally sending people to Mars is finally going to happen using a ship propelled by a powerful nuclear rocket. But space travel isn’t cut and dry, and there is nothing routine about it. In order to mine an asteroid the goal is to bring it closer to Earth, but orbital mechanics are tricky and close to Earth proves to be far too close for comfort—with looming destruction from space about to become a grim reality. Now astronauts, scientists, engineers, and people in all the burgeoning space businesses must team together to stop the asteroid before it is too late for humanity and the planet it calls home. The Red Rabbit Inquiry Agency - Book One by Lucidus Smith Pdf

Thirty six year old MacDonald Smith (Mac to his friends) and his wife Deborah, who was a year his junior, emigrated from England to New Zealand in August 1950, just a few months after their wedding in Spain. Deborah had spent six months in Auckland soon after leaving school and had such happy memories of her time there, that she had persuaded Mac that New Zealand was the place for them to start their married life together. Whilst Deborah had been able to simply change jobs, with the big London Insurance Company she had worked for, Mac, who had been a draughtsman in England, working in the planning department of a local council, had to start job hunting all over again. During one of the periods that Mac was un-employed, he had undertaken a short investigation for his cousin Arnold, who worked for a bank in Australia. During this investigation, he had met a twenty five year old young lady named Carice van Offstrop, who was also now in the throes of moving to Auckland and looking for a new job. When Carice telephoned Mac three days before Christmas, to find out how his search for a new job was going, she had no idea that her call would lead to such an unusual and interesting proposition. This book does not contain bad language, gratuitous violence or sex scenes.

Linguistic Dimensions of Crisis Talk by Claudia Sassen Pdf

This book offers an HPSG-based discourse grammar for a controlled language (Air Traffic Control) that allows the identification of well-formed discourse patterns. A formalisation of discourse theoretical structures that occur especially in crisis situations that involve potential aviation disasters is introduced. Of particular importance in this context are discourse sequences that help secure uptake among the crew and between crew and tower in order to coordinate actions that might result in avoiding a potential disaster. In order to describe the relevant phenomena, an extended HPSG formalism is used. The extension concerns the capability of modelling speech acts as proposed by Searle & Vanderveken (1985). The grammar is modelled by employing XML as a denotational semantics and is applied to the corpus data. This work thus lays the foundation for the automatic recognition of discourse structures in aviation communication.

Strider's Galaxy by John Grant Pdf

In the 25th century the human species, long exiled from the devastated Earth, sent a fleet of robot probes on voyages of discovery. Their objective was to find another planet suitable for terraforming and eventual human habitation. Ninety years later, across the empty oceans of space, the Tau Ceti probe reported success. Now, in the year 2531, a human expedition led by Captain Leonie Strider sets off from Jupiter orbit to claim humanity's first colony world outside the Solar System. But their progress is rudely halted by a hyperspace portal that snatches them millions of parsecs off course -- and into the middle of a galactic conflict . . . in someone else's galaxy. They must decide whether to stay and fight or to try to find their way home. But first they must survive . . . At the publisher's request, this title is sold without DRM (Digital Rights Management). [Strider's Galaxy] discards restraint and lets rip. Unashamedly occupying the pure entertainment end of the spectrum, this is a primary-colors read -- exotic, extravagant, zingy. Pipe-and-slippers science fiction it isn't. ----Stan Nicholls, Time Out

S.T.O.P. by James Moclair Pdf

For several years now the world as we know it had completely changed. This was because of the Covid 19 virus. With this in mind, Brian Jameson and his family had held back on taking a holiday abroad for quite a few years. B.J as he was known to all his friends, decided with his twenty-fifth wedding anniversary just around the corner, he would surprise his wife Shelia and book an all-inclusive ten-day holiday to the Canary Island of Tenerife. For B.J and Shelia, this will be the holiday of a lifetime and a chance for some fun in the sun and a nice bit of romance. And the icing on the cake was, this was the first time they were going on holiday without their now two grown-up girls. What B.J and the world weren't prepared for happened after only one day and night into the Jamesons' idyllic holiday. In short, Tenerife became an absolute killing field, and mysteriously, the majority of the murders were committed by tourists. It turned out Tenerife was just a testing ground. Soon another country would become the target of bizarre weather events that pushed the boundaries of the laws of physics and even crossed into the paranormal realm. Out of the ashes of the catastrophe that not only destroyed B.J's but everyone's lives who were on the island Tenerife, an odd alliance was also formed. More bizarrely, this alliance was between B.J, a physics lecturer, a gangland boss, a spiritualist, and various government departments from around the world. For B.J and his team, they knew the clock was ticking. Globally, bodies were stacking up and soon without intervention, this unknown force would be unstoppable.

Nobel laureate Daniel Kahneman has described financial advising as a prescriptive activity whose main objective should be to guide investors to make decisions that serve their best interests. The reality? That's easier said than done. In the Second Edition of Behavioral Finance and Wealth Management, Michael Pompian takes a practical approach to the growing science of behavioral finance, and puts it to use for real investors. Offering investors and financial advisors a "self-help" book, Pompian shows how to create investment strategies that leverage the latest cutting edge research into behavioral biases of individual investors. This book: Shows investors and financial advisors how to either moderate or adapt to behavioral biases, in order to improve investment results and identifies "the best practical allocation" for investment portfolios. Using these two sound approaches for guiding investment decision-making, behavioral biases are incorporated into the portfolio management process Uses updated cases studies to show investors and financial advisors how an investor's behavior can be modified to improve investment decision-making Provides useable methods for creating behaviorally modified investment portfolios, which may help investors to reach their long term financial goals Heightens awareness of biases so that financial decisions and resulting economic outcomes are improved Offers advice on managing the effects of each bias in order to improve investment results This Second Edition illustrates investors' behavioral biases in detail and offers financial advisors and their clients practical advice about how to apply the science of behavioral finance to improve overall investment decision making.
