Fundamentals of the Finite Element Method for Heat and Fluid Flow by Roland W. Lewis,Perumal Nithiarasu,Kankanhalli N. Seetharamu Pdf
Heat transfer is the area of engineering science which describes the energy transport between material bodies due to a difference in temperature. The three different modes of heat transport are conduction, convection and radiation. In most problems, these three modes exist simultaneously. However, the significance of these modes depends on the problems studied and often, insignificant modes are neglected. Very often books published on Computational Fluid Dynamics using the Finite Element Method give very little or no significance to thermal or heat transfer problems. From the research point of view, it is important to explain the handling of various types of heat transfer problems with different types of complex boundary conditions. Problems with slow fluid motion and heat transfer can be difficult problems to handle. Therefore, the complexity of combined fluid flow and heat transfer problems should not be underestimated and should be dealt with carefully. This book: Is ideal for teaching senior undergraduates the fundamentals of how to use the Finite Element Method to solve heat transfer and fluid dynamics problems Explains how to solve various heat transfer problems with different types of boundary conditions Uses recent computational methods and codes to handle complex fluid motion and heat transfer problems Includes a large number of examples and exercises on heat transfer problems In an era of parallel computing, computational efficiency and easy to handle codes play a major part. Bearing all these points in mind, the topics covered on combined flow and heat transfer in this book will be an asset for practising engineers and postgraduate students. Other topics of interest for the heat transfer community, such as heat exchangers and radiation heat transfer, are also included.
Analytical Methods for Heat Transfer and Fluid Flow Problems by Bernhard Weigand Pdf
This book describes useful analytical methods by applying them to real-world problems rather than solving the usual over-simplified classroom problems. The book demonstrates the applicability of analytical methods even for complex problems and guides the reader to a more intuitive understanding of approaches and solutions. Although the solution of Partial Differential Equations by numerical methods is the standard practice in industries, analytical methods are still important for the critical assessment of results derived from advanced computer simulations and the improvement of the underlying numerical techniques. Literature devoted to analytical methods, however, often focuses on theoretical and mathematical aspects and is therefore useless to most engineers. Analytical Methods for Heat Transfer and Fluid Flow Problems addresses engineers and engineering students. The second edition has been updated, the chapters on non-linear problems and on axial heat conduction problems were extended. And worked out examples were included.
The Intermediate Finite Element Method by Darrell W. Pepper,Juan C. Heinrich Pdf
This book is a follow-up to the introductory text written by the same authors. The primary emphasis on this book is linear and nonlinear partial differential equations with particular concentration on the equations of viscous fluid motion. Each chapter describes a particular application of the finite element method and illustrates the concepts through example problems. A comprehensive appendix lists computer codes for 2-D fluid flow and two 3-D transient codes.

Numerical Marching Techniques for Fluid Flows with Heat Transfer by Robert W. Hornbeck Pdf
"It is the purpose of this book to present the finite difference formulation and method of solution for a wide variety of fluid flow problems with associated heat transfer. Only a few direct results from these formulations will be given as examples, since the book is intended primarily to serve as a discussion of the techniques and as a starting point for further investigations; however, the formulations are sufficiently complete that a workable computer program may be written from them."--Page iii

Through this approach, readers will develop a deeper understanding of the underlying physical aspects of heat transfer and fluid flow as well as improve their ability to analyze and interpret computed results.
Fourier Series and Numerical Methods for Partial Differential Equations by Richard Bernatz Pdf
The importance of partial differential equations (PDEs) in modeling phenomena in engineering as well as in the physical, natural, and social sciences is well known by students and practitioners in these fields. Striking a balance between theory and applications, Fourier Series and Numerical Methods for Partial Differential Equations presents an introduction to the analytical and numerical methods that are essential for working with partial differential equations. Combining methodologies from calculus, introductory linear algebra, and ordinary differential equations (ODEs), the book strengthens and extends readers' knowledge of the power of linear spaces and linear transformations for purposes of understanding and solving a wide range of PDEs. The book begins with an introduction to the general terminology and topics related to PDEs, including the notion of initial and boundary value problems and also various solution techniques. Subsequent chapters explore: The solution process for Sturm-Liouville boundary value ODE problems and a Fourier series representation of the solution of initial boundary value problems in PDEs The concept of completeness, which introduces readers to Hilbert spaces The application of Laplace transforms and Duhamel's theorem to solve time-dependent boundary conditions The finite element method, using finite dimensional subspaces The finite analytic method with applications of the Fourier series methodology to linear version of non-linear PDEs Throughout the book, the author incorporates his own class-tested material, ensuring an accessible and easy-to-follow presentation that helps readers connect presented objectives with relevant applications to their own work. Maple is used throughout to solve many exercises, and a related Web site features Maple worksheets for readers to use when working with the book's one- and multi-dimensional problems. Fourier Series and Numerical Methods for Partial Differential Equations is an ideal book for courses on applied mathematics and partial differential equations at the upper-undergraduate and graduate levels. It is also a reliable resource for researchers and practitioners in the fields of mathematics, science, and engineering who work with mathematical modeling of physical phenomena, including diffusion and wave aspects.

The Finite Element Method in Heat Transfer Analysis by Roland W. Lewis,Ken Morgan,H. R. Thomas,Kankanhalli N. Seetharamu Pdf
Heat transfer analysis is a problem of major significance in a vast range of industrial applications. These extend over the fields of mechanical engineering, aeronautical engineering, chemical engineering and numerous applications in civil and electrical engineering. If one considers the heat conduction equation alone the number of practical problems amenable to solution is extensive. Expansion of the work to include features such as phase change, coupled heat and mass transfer, and thermal stress analysis provides the engineer with the capability to address a further series of key engineering problems. The complexity of practical problems is such that closed form solutions are not generally possible. The use of numerical techniques to solve such problems is therefore considered essential, and this book presents the use of the powerful finite element method in heat transfer analysis. Starting with the fundamental general heat conduction equation, the book moves on to consider the solution of linear steady state heat conduction problems, transient analyses and non-linear examples. Problems of melting and solidification are then considered at length followed by a chapter on convection. The application of heat and mass transfer to drying problems and the calculation of both thermal and shrinkage stresses conclude the book. Numerical examples are used to illustrate the basic concepts introduced. This book is the outcome of the teaching and research experience of the authors over a period of more than 20 years.
