Brandwashed by Martin Lindstrom Pdf

A shocking insider's look at how global giants conspire to obscure the truth and manipulate our minds. Marketing visionary Martin Lindstrom has been on the front lines of the branding wars for over twenty years. Here, he turns the spotlight on his own industry, drawing on all he has witnessed behind closed doors, exposing for the first time the full extent of the psychological tricks and traps that companies devise to win our hard-earned dollars. Picking up from where Vance Packard's bestselling classic, The Hidden Persuaders, left off more than half-a-century ago, Lindstrom reveals: New findings that reveal how advertisers and marketers intentionally target children at an alarmingly young age - starting when they are still in the womb! Shocking results of an fMRI study which uncovered what heterosexual men really think about when they see sexually provocative advertising (hint: it isn't their girlfriends). How marketers and retailers stoke the flames of public panic and capitalize on paranoia over global contagions, extreme weather events, and food contamination scares. The first ever neuroscientific evidence proving how addicted we all are to our iPhones and our Blackberry's (and the shocking reality of cell phone addiction - it can be harder to shake than addictions to drugs and alcohol). How companies of all stripes are secretly mining our digital footprints to uncover some of the most intimate details of our private lives, then using that information to target us with ads and offers 'perfectly tailored' to our psychological profiles. How certain companies, like the maker of one popular lip balm, purposely adjust their formulas in order to make their products chemically addictive. What a 3-month long guerrilla marketing experiment, conducted specifically for this book, tells us about the most powerful hidden persuader of them all. And much, much more. This searing expose introduces a new class of tricks, techniques, and seductions - the Hidden Persuaders of the 21st century- and shows why they are more insidious and pervasive than ever.

The Broken Covenant of Calebais by Mark Rein-Hagen,Jonathan Tweet Pdf

Fifty years ago, the covenant of Calebais was destroyed. No one knows how or why such a powerful and well-defended group of wizards could possibly fall. Now the truth behind the tragedy comes to light as you and your friends uncover this mystery. From faerie-inhabited forests to the long-abandoned ruins of a wizardly palace to the inner chambers of a secretive convent, The Broken Covenant of Calebais goes to the roots of roleplaying -- to the early days of fantasy stories -- when realism, romance, mystery, and magic were foremost in mind. This revised edition of The Broken Covenant of Calebais is the third version of the adventure to be published for Ars Magica. Calebais was the first adventure published for the First Edition of the game, and was reworked for Second Edition. Now, to coincide with the release of the game's Fifth Edition, this classic has been revised and expanded once more. Although the plot, setting, and atmosphere remain the same, the text has been almost completely rewritten to integrate this classic adventure into the newest and best version of Ars Magica.

The Irish and Anglo-Irish Landed Gentry When Cromwell Came to Ireland; Or, a Supplement to Irish Pedigrees by John O'Hart Pdf

This work is often considered a companion volume of O'Hart's, "Irish Pedigrees: the Orgin and Stem of the Irish Nation," 2 Volumes, the Third Edition of which was published in 1881, and provided the genealogies of the families which branched from that ancient stem; together with the genealogies of Anglo-Irish and Anglo-Norman families which settled in Ireland from time to time since the English invasion. In this Volume the author documents some 257 additional genealogies which were collected, most of them in the MSS. Library of Trinity College, or in the Royal Irish Academy, Dublin, since the Third Edition of Irish Pedigrees was compiled, with a few of the original genealogies contained in that Edition, corrected or enlarged. Also included within "The Irish and Anglo-Irish Landed Gentry" is an extensive Appendix, which provides transcriptions of primary sources destroyed by fire in 1922. The author has also included numerous lists of Forfeiting Proprietors, names included on "Transplanters' Certificates," lists relating to the seventeenth-century land settlements, lists of the Irish Brigades, and much, much more. Approximately 22,000 surname references. Paperback, (1884), repr. Appendices, Index, 792 pp.

Unnerved by Maud Page Pdf

The Queensland Art Gallery presents UNNERVED: THE NEW ZEALAND PROJECT, the second in a series of country-specific exhibition projects focusing on its contemporary collections. Since the 1990s, the Gallery's holdings of contemporary work from New Zealand have grown rapidly, partly through increased awareness and interest in the Asia Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art exhibitions. UNNERVED, and its accompanying publication, explores a particularly rich dark vein that recurs in New Zealand contemporary art and cinema. Psychological or physical unease pervades many works in the exhibition, with humour, parody and poetic subtlety among the strategies used by artists across generations and genres. Major sculptures by Michael Parekowhai, installations by Lisa Reihana and Michael Stevenson and photographic series by Yvonne Todd, Anne Noble and Greg Semu feature alongside video art by Sriwhana Spong and Nathan Pohio. The exhibition is accompanied by the film program, New Zealand Noir.
