The Fairy Woods Children by Adriana Yamane Pdf

Much of the education of children is based on the antithesis between “good” and “bad.” The images of “bad” are supposed to be the dark background against which the good can shine, like courage shining through in times of danger. The problem with this approach is that “the good” has only the chance to shine but not to grow. The Fairy Woods Children thus tries to bring a new approach that allows goodness to grow and to expand in children’s consciousness, without the need of a fear-based background scenario. While this may sound boring to grown-up people who are used mainly to the strife of their daily life with all its troubles and fears, small children do not need to have this handicap. From an early age, they need to be allowed to grow beyond this stage at which humankind is now, and they need to learn more about the infinite possibilities that may lie before them in the future. A lot of misunderstandings and conflicts arise from the lack of heart-to-heart communication, which is the central point in the seven stories of the book. Each story, meant to be read at bedtime, brings to the surface a deep inner longing of the soul to express itself. As a child, these were the stories I would have liked to hear, and these were the teachings I would have liked to receive, as they can greatly eliminate the need of the good versus bad antithesis. And this is the reason why I would like to offer them to children and people like me, who may appreciate art and beauty, and who may wish to create for their families a lifestyle which is more soulful and kind.

Japanese Fairy Tales by Grace James Pdf

I. GREEN WILLOW Tomodata, the young samurai, owed allegiance to the Lord of Noto. He was a soldier, a courtier, and a poet. He had a sweet voice and a beautiful face, a noble form and a very winning address. He was a graceful dancer, and excelled in every manly sport. He was wealthy and generous and kind. He was beloved by rich and by poor. Now his daimyo, the Lord of Noto, wanted a man to undertake a mission of trust. He chose Tomodata, and called him to his presence. “Are you loyal?” said the daimyo. “My lord, you know it,” answered Tomodata. “Do you love me, then?” asked the daimyo. “Ay, my good lord,” said Tomodata, kneeling before him. “Then carry my message,” said the daimyo. “Ride and do not spare your beast. Ride straight, and fear not the mountains nor the enemies’ country. Stay not for storm nor any other thing. Lose your life; but betray not your trust. Above all, do not look any maid between the eyes. Ride, and bring me word again quickly.” Thus spoke the Lord of Noto. So Tomodata got him to horse, and away he rode upon his quest. Obedient to his lord’s commands, he spared not his good beast. He rode straight, and was not afraid of the steep mountain passes nor of the enemies’ country. Ere he had been three days upon the road the autumn tempest burst, for it was the ninth month. Down poured the rain in a torrent. Tomodata bowed his head and rode on. The wind howled in the pine-tree branches. It blew a typhoon. The good horse trembled and could scarcely keep its feet, but Tomodata spoke to it and urged it on. His own cloak he drew close about him and held it so that it might not blow away, and in this wise he rode on.

Furies and Fireflies over Korea by Graham A. Thomas Pdf

The historian and author details the exploits of British and Australian pilots during the Korean War. With the outbreak of the Korean War, the UN Security Council called on its members to act and 16 nations did, with Britain sending aircraft carriers such as HMS Truimph, from which piston-engined Sea Fury fighters and Fairey Firefly fighter-bombers operated. This is the story of the British and Australian Fleet Air Arm pilots and their missions over hostile territory, missions carried out with distinction and honor.

The Fairy Tale and Anime by Dani Cavallaro Pdf

Over the last few decades, anime has consistently come into fruitful contact with themes, images and symbols associated with the fairy tale tradition. This critical text focuses on the ways in which fundamental principles of the fairy tale tradition are deployed, and hence come to manifest themselves narratively and cinematographically, in anime. Topics covered include modes of storytelling, aesthetics, as well as dramatic, ethical, psychological and social considerations. Of particular interest is the way in which allegorical commentaries on cultural and historical issues are illustrated in anime.
