Angels on the Head of a Pin by Yuri Druzhnikov Pdf
In this contemporary Russian classic, a samizdat document arrives at a Soviet newspaper headquarters with unimaginable consequences.Angels on the Head of a Pin is set in Moscow in the late 1960s, at a time when Khrushchev-era liberalization is being threatened by the return to personality cult and repression following the Soviet intervention in Czechoslovakia. The editor-in-chief of the organ of the Communist Party collapses with a heart attack outside the Central Committee building. This is partly brought on by the appearance of a samizdat manuscript on his desk that leads to his anguishing over who left it there and what to do with it to avoid falling victim to the malevolence its content is likely to unleash. The solution lies with Yakov Rappoport, an ageing and cynical Jewish veteran of the war and two spells in the Gulag, the author of not only the obnoxious popular campaigns sponsored by the newspaper (and all its letters to the editor) but of every speech that gets made in public by the principals of the regime as well. His efforts to help his stricken editor, as well as the novel's star-crossed lovers, lead to a hallucinatory climax.
Fall of Ice from the Sky by BIMAL K SRIVASTAVA Pdf
Reports of the Incidents of fall of large ice blocks from the sky have been appearing in media since times. These ice chunks, also known as “Blue ice” or “Aircraft Ice” happen to be the frozen mixture of human bio-waste and liquid disinfectant, that emerge in the form of the leakage from the defective toilet lines from a commercial airliner or any other transport category aircraft carrying passengers. The book gives an account of more than 600 such cases of ice fall worldwide extracted from various languages. Many people believe that the colour of ice blocks fallen from the aircraft toilets must be Blue or Green, but as a matter of fact, it could be of any colour, blue, green, yellowish, rusty, muddy, ash, white, dirty, or colourless. These ice blocks are potential hazards that are likely to endanger the lives and properties on the ground. As, the incidents are generally viewed from the perspective of weather and therefore, no preventive measures are contemplated against them. However, a majority of them are actually found to be aviation-related, and thus there appears to be some possibility of minimising them provided appropriate precautionary measures are taken and implemented in the matter by the airlines, regulatory authorities for aviation and other concerned. "This is the first occasion that a book on the topic of ice-fall from the sky has been written by an aviation expert, who has done it after conducting high-quality research work considering various aeronautical aspects as well as the facts & figures related to aviation - Satendra Singh, Former DGCA, India"
The Unravelling is a gripping historical fiction set in Rhodesia, now named Zimbabwe, and the United Kingdom during the late 1970s and early 1980s. The novel depicts the military, political, and tribal intrigues that led to the country's collapse as its disenfranchised black population took up arms to break free from Rhodesia’s colonial past. You will meet two young men, Nick and Sipho, who have a deep love for the country of their birth and for its endangered elephant and rhino herds which are facing an existential threat from poaching. During the Rhodesian Bush War both men had served with distinction with the Rhodesian African Rifles (RAR) and had become stalwart brothers in arms After being demobilised from the RAR in July 1980, Nick goes to study in the UK where he falls in love with Rachel Dixon, the daughter of a controversial English businessman. Sipho remains in Zimbabwe. He is a patriot from the Ndebele nation. He loves his tribal heritage but loves his country more. Following the disbandment of the RAR he joins the new Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) and serves it with distinction. However, despite such service he becomes the victim of shameful tribal discrimination by the ZNA hierarchy. Johannes du Toit, a callous white man and a deserter from the Rhodesian Light Infantry, flees Rhodesia in 1978 when his poaching activities are uncovered. He returns to Zimbabwe in 1981 to continue his nefarious activities. The four characters meet at Mhuka Ranch in southeast Zimbabwe in 1981, where a lethal encounter leaves three people dead. The truth of what happened on that fateful day remains unknown to the public but will be revealed to the reader.
A string of incidents causes Cal Dion to learn some harsh truths about himself. A single-vehicle crash on the Sea to Sky Highway is blamed on the notorious stretch of road — but when bad things start happening to the good people who stopped to help the victim, North Vancouver RCMP Constable Dave Leith starts to wonder if something darker is at play. Leith and his partner, JD, work through clues that are as close to bizarre as they’ve ever seen. At the same time, Leith is keeping tabs on a murder suspect who is too close for comfort: Cal Dion, a cop and colleague, knows all about crime — and perhaps how to get away with it. Dion is looking at a long fall from grace, but his mind is on the Sea to Sky killings, and he’s beginning to think the team is on the wrong track. Could it be that a crime from his turbulent past holds the key?

After five years working in Southern Rhodesia, now Zimbabwe, and South Africa, I decided to return to London overland from Johannesburg, 9000 miles. Early in 1960 I hitchhiked with a Jewish friend to Nairobi, East Africa. From there I continued alone. David wanted to avoid the Moslem lands. From Uganda the Nile carried me to the Sudan, where primitive Nilotic people greeted me. In Egypt I explored the temples of Ramses II carved out of a cliff at Abu Simbel. Later these were relocated avoiding flooding. I hitched through Greece and communist Yugoslavia, eventually returning to my London family, March 1960.
