The Flying Carpet by Richard Halliburton Pdf

THEY FLEW THROUGH THE AIR WITH GREATEST OF EASE Richard Halliburton can be counted on to lead his readers into strange places, into hilarious difficulties, into new appreciations of history and romance—and never to qualify his outrageous philosophy of reckless living with a single sober moral. The Flying Carpet is his latest, his most modern book—in which he takes us around the world by airplane. Timbuctoo, because it was far away and mysterious, was his first destination. From there, the author and his pilot-companion, Moye Stephens, follow a “royal road to romance” through the sky, dropping down on Fez, Morocco and the French Foreign Legion, The Holy Land, Galilee, Baghdad in mysterious Arabia, Persia, and India; flying over the world’s highest mountain, Mt. Everest, investigating Singapore, speeding to Borneo to visit the white Ranee whose husband rules half a million head hunters, and ending in Manila, making airplane records, enjoying unprecedented thrilling experiences, flying into remote places where airplanes had never been heard of before. These enviable adventures are told gaily and dramatically. Their footloose spirit, as free as the air through which the Flying Carpet sailed, will prove fatal to the contentment of those readers who have not yet achieved the realization of their own travel dreams.

Flying Carpet by Diana Yue Pdf

From the pen of one of Hong Kong's leading writers, Xi Xi (1938 - ), Flying Carpet mirrors the past and present of Fertillia, an island city situated on the south-eastern coast of the huge country of Dragonland. Fertillia is of course Hong Kong, and the novel is part history and part imagination, a rich tapestry of the local material culture and a vivid portrayal of sensitive Chinese minds, a saga of the Fa family who has lived through Fertillia's development from a small village to a cosmopolitan metropolis. On top of the personal drama involving three generations of people, the author casts her narrative net over many walks of life in the city and suggests the uniqueness of Fertillia's existence within a cosmic order of rare elegance and harmony.

The Flying Carpet by Anonim Pdf

The Flying Carpet is a collection of images taken by Cesare Fabbri in and around Emilia-Romagna and Sardegna, Italy, between 2005-15. The photographs affirm the simple magic of photography-as if it's thorough the image itself that we might discover something for the first time, something right before our eyes. "The camera," wrote Luigi Ghirri in the 1970s, "is a magical toy capable of bringing together the great and the small, illusion and reality, time and space." And indeed, in these photographs, we encounter a world of things re-animated as images, a silent world roused from its slumber? huts with painted, questioning eyes, an inquisitive mailbox peering over a fence, or an embroidered carpet lifting off in the breeze. Italian photographer Cesare Fabbri was born in Ravenna in 1971. He studied photography and urban planning at the IUAV in Venice. In 2007 he took part in the Stuttgart Biennale of Photography and Architecture and was shortlisted for the prize Atlante Italiano 007 organised by Museo MAXXI, Roma. With Silvia Loddo he founded in 2009 osservatorio fotografico, an experimental platform for research on photography. This is his first book.

The balloon, Mount Tambura and the Flying Carpet by Fernanda Raineri Pdf

The story is set in Versilia in Tuscany, surrounded by the luxuriant nature of the Apuan Alps, and in the bowels of Mount Tambura. Stella and her sister Glenda, along with their two friends Rebecca and Frank who have just arrived from the United States, are involved in a series of incredible events, to the limit of the supernatural. It all starts with a trip in a hot air balloon strongly backed by the boys, despite the concerns shown by their parents. But what started as a unique experience soon turned to tragedy: the four, along with Alfred, the young Turkish driver of the balloon (called "Nautilus"), fall in the middle of a forest because of a turbulence . When they regained consciousness, they are miraculously unharmed, although there is no trace of Alfred. Stella and her friends start looking for a path to get back home, but instead they discover a mysterious underground place. Here begins a journey that will leave the protagonists the sole custodians of secrets that had remained untouched for years, offering to Stella, who is an aspiring writer, a story to tell.

The Phoenix and the Carpet by Edith Nesbit Pdf

The Phoenix and the Carpet - Edith Nesbit - The Phoenix and the Carpet is a fantasy novel for children, written in 1904 by E. Nesbit. It is the second in a trilogy of novels that began with Five Children and It (1902), and follows the adventures of the same five protagonists – Cyril, Anthea, Robert, Jane and the Lamb. Their mother buys the children a new carpet to replace the one from the nursery that was destroyed in an accidental fire. The children find an egg in the carpet which hatches into a talking Phoenix. The Phoenix explains that the carpet is a magical one that will grant them three wishes per day. The five children go on many adventures which eventually wears out their magical carpet. The adventures of the children are continued and conclude in the third book of the trilogy, The Story of the Amulet (1906). This middle volume of the trilogy that began with Five Children and It and concludes with The Story of the Amulet deviates somewhat from the other two because the Psammead gets only a brief mention, and because in this volume the children live with both of their parents and their younger brother—the Lamb—in their home in London. Consequently, there is less loneliness and sense of loss in this volume than in the other two. In both of the other volumes, circumstances have forced the children to spend a protracted period away from their familiar London home and their father; in Amulet, their mother and the Lamb are absent as well. A continuing theme throughout The Phoenix and the Carpet is, appropriately enough, the ancient element of fire. The story begins shortly before November 5, celebrated in England as Guy Fawkes Night. Traditionally, children light bonfires and set off fireworks on this night. The four children have accumulated a small hoard of fireworks but are too impatient to wait until November 5 to light them, so they set off a few samples in the nursery. This results in a fire that destroys the carpet. Their parents purchase a second-hand carpet which, upon arrival, is found to contain an egg that emits a weird phosphorescent glow. The children accidentally knock this egg into the fire: it hatches, revealing a golden Phoenix who speaks perfect English. It develops that this is a magical carpet, which can transport the children to anywhere they wish in the present time, although it is only capable of three wishes per day. Accompanied by the Phoenix, the children have exotic adventures in various climes. There is one moment of terror for the children when their youngest brother, the Lamb, crawls onto the carpet, babbles some incoherent baby talk, and vanishes. Fortunately, the Lamb only desired to be with his mother. At a few points in the novel, the children find themselves in predicaments from which the Phoenix is unable to rescue them by himself; he goes to find the Psammead and has a wish granted for the children's sake. In addition, in the end, the carpet is sent to ask the Psammead to grant the Phoenix's wish. These offstage incidents are the only contribution made by the Psammead to this story.
