Excerpt from Foreign Crops and Markets, Vol. 45: August 31, 1942 Private estimates of Canadian grain cr0ps continue very Optimistic, with record yields generally indicated. Estimates of the wheat cr0p now range from 550 to 600 million bushels, as compared with 300 million har vested last year. For oats, estimates range from 4-50 to 500 million bushels or more, and barley, 175 to 225 million bushels, or practically double that of a year ago. A rye crop of 223 to 25 million bushels is also estimated, as compared with around 123 million bushels for 1941. Al together, it is estimated that a Canadian grain cr0p of around to million bushels may be harvested this year if no serious frost damage occurs in the near future. In addition to the current harvest, nearly 450 million bushels of old-crop grain were carried over in Canada this year. With commercial storage and elevator capacity estimated at around 600 million bushels and farm storage placed at 765 million, it is quite apparent that some storage problems, especially on many individual farms and in local areas. Excerpt from Foreign Crops and Markets, Vol. 45: July 20, 1942 The official Canadian crop report released July 8, giving the condition of crops on June 30, showed average or better prospects for all grains. Wheat in particular was indicated to be excellent and consider ably above a year ago. The crop made unusually favorable progress during June. In the important wheat-producing Province of Saskatchewan the condition at the end of June was markedly improved compared with a month earlier and the condition on June 80 a year ago. In general, the spring wheat crop prospects in the Prairie Provinces showed the best June 30 condition since the bumper crops of 1927 and 1928. Feed grains, includ ing oats, barley, and rye, also showed excellent promise, both in eastern and western Canada, in contrast to last year's generally below-average condition.
