Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) and Diversity in Tanzanias' Economy by Emmanuel Kasozi Pdf

Document from the year 2013 in the subject Business economics - Investment and Finance, grade: none, ( Atlantic International University ), course: Business Administration, language: English, abstract: Abstract The function of Foreign Direct Investment [FDI] in Tanzania is a serious matter which has been uncared for till recently. This came as a result of forcing the Asians to live East Africa especially during the era of Iddi Amini Dada the former president of Uganda after chasing Asians in his country. Most of Foreign Investors scared to invest in East Africa as they feared their property that could be nationalized as Iddi Amini did. For Tanzania itself however, Foreign Direct Investment epitomizes a crucial additional source of the investment capital and make a payment to the Tanzania’s economic growth and development. This thesis denotes one of the initial endeavors to scrutinize the implications of the inflows of FDI and Diversity to Tanzania’s economy. The psychoanalysis of this thesis is undertaken in perspective of the current literature and the efforts which are made by the government of Tanzania to encourage more inflow of Foreign Investors in the country, and people’s opinions on FDI in the country. Also this thesis will focus on the challenges the private investors come across in their efforts to promote investment in Tanzania.

World Bank Discussion Paper No. 351. Outlines Tunisia's innovative strategy of reducing the budgetary costs of food subsidies in a manner that is politically acceptable and that protects the nutritional status of the poor. The government uses self-targeted programs, whereby subsidies are shifted to items consumed primarily by low-income groups, while prices of unsubsidized, higher-quality items are liberalized, appealing to higher-income groups who then consume less of the subsidized foods.

Implementing Deregulation and Promoting Foreign Direct Investment in Africa by Heinz B. Bachmann Pdf

This report presents proceedings from six workshops on deregulation implementation held in Benin, Côte d'Ivoire, Senegal, Tanzania, Uganda, and Zimbabwe in 1993-94. Organized by the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA) and the Foreign Investment Advisory Service (FIAS), the workshops focused on implementing policies relating to private investment and discussing possible improvements as ways of increasing the inflow of foreign direct investment. The discussions covered 10 subjects: the investment approval process, access to land, domestic financing, tax administration, entry visas and work permits, price controls, customs and port operations, foreign trade formalities, foreign exchange controls and formalities, and the legal and judicial systems. The workshops also addressed the behavior of governments themselves and the mentality and attitudes of the civil service. The volume contains both English and French versions of the text.

Trends and Impacts of Foreign Investment in Developing Country Agriculture by Pascal Liu Pdf

Substantial increases in agricultural investments in developing countries are needed to combat poverty and realize food security and nutrition goals. There is evidence that agricultural investments can generate a wide range of developmental benefits, but these benefits cannot be expected to arise automatically and some forms of large-scale investment carry risks for host countries. Although there has been much debate about the potential benefits and risks of international investment, there is no systematic evidence on the actual impacts on the host country and their determinants. In order to acquire an in-depth understanding of potential benefits, constraints and costs of foreign investment in agriculture and of the business models that are more conducive to development, FAO has undertaken research in developing countries. This publication summarizes the results of this research, in particular through the presentation of the main findings of case studies in nine developing countries. It presents case studies on policies to attract foreign investment in agriculture and their impacts on national economic development in selected countries in Africa, Asian and Latin America.

Administrative Barriers to Foreign Investment by Anonim Pdf

When at every turn, they find a new twist, or a new requirement, foreign investors in Africa can be easily discouraged from setting up businesses. Although many African governments have liberalized and reformed investment policies and promote themselves as investment sites, the reality facing investors differs greatly. To help change the 'lack of investor response' to Africa's enticements, this book examines the administrative constraints to investment in several African countries. It presents the experience that confronts investors when they set up a company. The case histories demonstrate how the morass of licenses, approvals, permits, and other requirements that result in undue delays and unforeseen costs encourage bribery and corruption and foster an environment of pervasive uncertainty for all investors. The chapters are divided into four areas, which correspond roughly to the chronological process of investment. They are: 1) general approvals, licenses, and registrations; 2) specialized approvals; 3) requirements to gain access to land, site development, and utility connections; and 4) operational requirements. This publication will be of interest to government officials, academics, and investment firms.
