Fortran 95/2003 Explained by Michael Metcalf,John Ker Reid,Malcolm Cohen Pdf

Fortran remains one of the principal languages used in scientific, numerical, and engineering programming, and a series of revisions to the standard versions of the language have progressively enhanced its power. The latest standard - Fortran 2003 - greatly extends the power of the language, by introducing object-oriented concepts, interoperability with C, better integration with operating systems and many other enhancements. This text details all these new features. Fortran 95/2003 Explained, significantly expands on the second edition of Fortran 90/95 Explained (also published by Oxford University Press): the opening chapters contain a complete description of the Fortran 95 language and are followed by descriptions of three formally approved extensions; six completely new chapters describe in detail the features that are new in Fortran 2003, but the distinction between the various language levels is kept clear throughout. Authored by three leading experts in the development of the language, this is a complete and authoritative description of the two languages (Fortran 95 and Fortran 2003). It is intended for new and existing users of Fortran, and for all those involved in scientific and numerical computing. It is suitable as textbook for teaching and, with its extensive index, as a handy reference for practitioners.

Fortran 90/95 Explained by Michael Metcalf,John Ker Reid Pdf

The success of Fortran as the predominant language in the field of scientific and numerical computing is due, in part, to its steady evolution. The latest version, Fortran 95, was published in 1997 and included new features from Fortran 90 for array processing, abstract data types, modules, and pointers, as well as additional features to keep it aligned with High Performance Fortran. This book is a revision of Fortran 90/95 Explained. The Fortran 95 material is now fully integrated with the material on Fortran 90, while the text carefully maintains the distinction between the two language levels. It include new chapters on two important changes: enhanced data types and floating-point exception handling. A complete and authoritative description of Fortran 90 and 95, this book is intended for both new and experienced users.

Fortran 95 Language Guide by Wilhelm Gehrke Pdf

Fortran is one of the most widely used programming languages in science and engineering. Fortran 90 replaced the outmoded FORTRAN 77 in 1991 and this recent version of the International Standard enhances this version. It also includes several new features to ensure that Fortran continues to be aligned with High Performance Fortran (HPF) for parallel computer architectures. Fortran 95 Language Guide will serve as a language reference manual for programmers, provide teaching material for introductory courses in Fortran programming, and give help to experienced Fortran programmers migrating to the new standard. Gehrke has provided a comprehensive and easy-to-understand description of the Fortran 95 programming language as defined by the ISO, which will be welcomed by both practitioners and students alike.

COMPUTER PROGRAMMING IN FORTRAN 90 AND 95 by V. RAJARAMAN Pdf

This book introduces Computer Programming to a beginner, using Fortran 90 and its recent extension Fortran 95. While Fortran 77 has been used for many years and is currently very popular, computer scientists have been seriously concerned about good programming practice to promote development of reliable programs. Thus, the International Standards Organization set up a group to 'modernise' Fortran and introduce new features which have made languages such as Pascal and C popular. The committee took over a decade to come up with the new standard, Fortran 90. Fortran 90 has introduced many new features in Fortran, such as recursion, pointers, user-defined data types etc., which were hitherto available only in languages such as Pascal and C. Fortran 90 is not an evolutionary change of Fortran 77 but is drastically different. Though Fortran 77 programs can be run using a Fortran 90 compiler, Fortran 90 is so different that the author felt it was not a good idea to just revise Fortran 77 and introduce Fortran 90 in some places in the book. Thus this book is entirely new and introduces Fortran 90 from basics. In 1996 some small extensions were made to Fortran 90 and has called Fortran 95. This book also discusses these features. As all new programs in Fortran will henceforth be written in Fortran 90, it is essential for students to learn this language. The methodology of presentation, however, closely follows the one used by the author in his popular book on Fortran 77.

The F Programming Language by Michael Metcalf,John Ker Reid Pdf

The F programming language is a dramatic new development in scientific programming. Building on the well-established strengths of the Fortran family of languages, it is carefully crafted to be both safe and regular, whilst retaining the enormously powerful numerical capabilities of its parentlanguage, Fortran 90, as well as its data abstraction capability. Thus, an array language becomes available as part of a medium-size, widely-available language for the first time. In this respect, the language is clearly superior to older ones such as Pascal, C, and Basic. The book begins with anintroductory chapter, then describes, in turn, the features of the language: language elements, expressions and assignments, control constructs, program units and procedures, array features, intrinsic procedures, and the input/output facilities. It is completed by six appendices, including thedifference between F and Fortran 90, and solutions to most of the exercises. In the absence of a formal standard for F, this book is the defining document for the language, setting out the complete syntax and semantics of the language in a readable but thorough way. It is essential reading forusers of F.
