Exploring the Spiritual in Popular Music by Georgina Gregory,Mike Dines Pdf

This book highlights how the diverse nature of spiritual practices are experienced and manifest through the medium of popular music. At first glance, chapters on Krishnacore, the Rave Church phenomenon and post-punk repertoire of Psychic TV may appear to have little in common; however, this book draws attention to some of the similarities of the nuances of spiritual expression that underpin the lived experience of popular music. As an interdisciplinary volume, the extensive introduction unpacks and clarifies terminology relating to the study of religion and popular music. The cross-disciplinary approach of the book makes it accessible and appealing to scholars of religious studies, cultural studies, popular music studies and theology. Unlike existing collections dealing with popular music and religion that focus on a specific genre, this innovative book offers a range of music and case studies, with chapters written by international contributors.

Bring Me the Horizon - Heavy Sounds from the Steel City by Ben Welch Pdf

Whether onstage or off, Oli Sykes is not one to bite his tongue. As the frontman of Bring Me the Horizon, one of the most polarising bands to emerge from the UK rock scene, he is the commander-in-chief of a band as uncompromising as it is unpredictable, and has led his comrades in a daring assault on the mainstream. But the band has been the source of much controversy to match its acclaim. In just over a decade they have endured drug addiction, brushes with the law, press hostility and even onstage assaults. But nothing has slowed their ascent from underground notoriety to the upper reaches of superstardom. Behind the noise, there is a restless creative energy which has seen Bring Me the Horizon take huge strides from album to album. This book tells their story for the first time, including their first steps into the hardcore scene of Sheffield, emerging from and then outgrowing the so-called 'deathcore' movement and the creation of their defining records. This is how Bring Me the Horizon took on the world and came out on top. Throw me to the Wolves

The Provincetown Players and the Playwrights' Theatre, 1915-1922 by Edna Kenton Pdf

The feminist writer and editor Edna Kenton (1876ndash;1954) was elected to the Executive Committee of the Provincetown Players by 1916. This theatrical company, first to present the plays of Eugene O'Neill, rebelled against the commercialism of Broadway and gave unrecognized dramatists the opportunity to experiment. Kenton was a great admirer of company leader George Cram Cook, and when Cook died in Greece in the early 1920s, Kenton dedicated herself to upholding his vision of a Dionysian ideal in American theater. This is Kenton's original history of the influential theatre, from the first seasons at Provincetown in 1915 and 1916, to the final New York season in 1922. This invaluable eyewitness account has been edited from the most complete and latest version of Kenton's text, with consultation of earlier incomplete versions. Kenton transcribed many playbills into the text, and included others whole between the pages; the latter are included as illustrations. An appendix reprints Kenton's two periodical articles about the Provincetown Players and articles from the New York Herald, the Boston Globe, and the Boston Evening Transcript, as well as other memories of the Provincetown Players, including those of Marsden Hartley, Nina Moise, M. Eleanor Fitzgerald, and Djuna Barnes.
