GEMA by Harry von Kroge Pdf

In Germany, the development of the first technologies of sonar and radar were interrelated. Following Christian Hülsmeyer's forgotten invention of the "Telemobiloskop" in 1904, two Berlin engineers, Paul Günther Erbslöh and Hans-Karl von Willisen, developed and built devices to locate targets accurately by reflections with underwater sound and radio waves. In 1934, they found their own company for this work, called Gesellschaft für Elektroakustische und Mechanische Apparate (GEMA), which became the birthplace of their famous Freya air-warning and Seetakt ocean-surveillance radars. Harry von Kroge has devoted decades to collecting a mass of statements and widely scattered documentary material about the evolution of GEMA's sonar and radar. GEMA: Birthplace of German Radar and Sonar, the English edition of von Kroge's first important, seminal work, discusses previously unavailable parts of the fascinating story of pioneering efforts in learning to see in the darkness. It relates the fascinating story of how German radar and sonar were developed in the years leading up to and during World War II. The author provides insights into the difficulties encountered on the way to the first promising results in target detection and ranging without optical visibility. The book includes rare technical descriptions as well as information about industrial and scientific cooperation involving secret equipment in Germany before 1945.

Online Music Distribution - How Much Exclusivity Is Needed? by Nikita Malevanny Pdf

This book analyzes regulatory models established in the field of online music distribution, and examines their consistency with the overarching objectives of copyright law. In order to do so, the book takes a deep dive into the provisions of international treaties, EU Directives as well as the German and US copyright systems and case law. It subsequently scrutinizes the identified regulatory models from the standpoint of the copyright’s objectives with regard to incentives, rewards, a level playing field, and dissemination. Lastly, it endorses the improved market-based statutory license as a preferable instrument in the online music field. The book is intended for all readers with an interest in music copyright law. Part I will especially benefit copyright scholars and practitioners seeking in-depth insights into the current legal situation regarding streaming and downloading. In turn, Part II will above all appeal to scholars interested in “law and economics” and in the theoretical foundations of online music copyright. Policy recommendations can be found in Part III.

The Trouble with Kenya: McKenzian Blueprint by Lawi Sultan Njeremani Pdf

The McKenzian Blueprint. Some lines are short; some lines are long. All lines are variable. Some appear parallel but connect in latency. Some appear linear. When held against the light they reveal dependence or independence; Freedom or constraints; Empowerment or strife; Subjugation or Justice. The Trouble with Kenya is a microcosm of any given country's social and justice pillars. These pillars have been subordinated to the political and economic pillars in many societies with politics and the economy being deified as the all-encompassing enablers of the advancement of Nations. With the world becoming more connected, happenings in far-flung places are increasingly becoming risk factors locally, precipitating issues of local concern and increasing the impediments to collective human development. All these may appear to be abstract concepts in daily life where making the next pay check, putting food on the table or securing a comfortable future for oneself and family is an exhausting endeavor but those who ignore the harbinger flicks subject themselves to ongoing or future succumb. The story of the founding of Kenya as a country and the continuous strides towards nationhood is similar to many countries globally that have had a monarchy in their founding DNA. Indeed, some countries have excelled in building institutions that ensure an equitable society, while some continue to struggle with cartelization and usurpation of independence of institutions and commensurately experience unjust societal confluence where only a few enjoy the benefits of a nation-wide toil. Why you should get the best historical book you are yet to read Unprecedented Insight: Offering a fresh and unparalleled perspective, this book provides a deep dive into Kenya's history in two volumes, shedding light on pivotal moments and influential figures that have shaped the nation. McKenzian Blueprint Unveiled: The book meticulously explores the McKenzian Blueprint, a historical phenomenon that continues to influence Kenya's social, economic, and political landscape. Readers will gain a profound understanding of its origins, implementation, and lasting effects. Compelling Narration: An engaging writing style and thorough research make complex historical events accessible to a broad audience, ensuring an absorbing and enlightening reading experience. Companion Comic Book: Enhance your understanding with the companion comic book of the same title. Featuring vivid graphic illustrations, the comic book brings key historical moments to life, making it an excellent educational tool and an engaging supplement to the main text. Relevance Today: The book is representative of any given country in the world. Drawing parallels between historical events and contemporary issues, the book underscores the relevance of Kenya's, and indeed, your country's past in understanding its present and shaping its future. "The Trouble with Kenya: McKenzian Blueprint" is a must-read for history enthusiasts, students, and anyone seeking a comprehensive exploration of Kenya's rich and complex heritage. Order now and embark on a captivating journey through the corridors of time.

Contracts in Context by Nadelle Grossman,Eric A. Zacks Pdf

This new casebook focuses on the transactional nature of contracts. In addition to describing the law of contracts and how the law is applied in litigation, Contracts in Context: From Transaction to Litigation explores why parties enter into contracts, how written contracts are customarily structured, and why and how parties use contract design and terms to achieve their goals. It explores how parties “contract around” default requirements of the law, in addition to satisfying mandatory aspects of the law, through contracts. The book describes the role of both the transactional lawyer and litigator in working with contracts. It presents much of the material in expository fashion rather than only or primarily through cases. It then challenges students to apply that law through transactional and litigation practice and simulation problems. Professors and students will benefit from: Material presented not only on contract law, but also on contract design and terms, so that students understand how contracts and contract law support private ordering by parties Many examples of contract language to demonstrate why and how parties customize contracts to further their goals Discussion of the role of the transactional lawyer in working with contracts so that students can begin to develop important transactional skills and wrestle with some of the professional dilemmas transactional lawyers frequently face Material presented through expository text to give students a more comprehensive and clearer view of what limits the law imposes on their private ordering through contracts and which requirements can be contracted around A large set of problems, many of which involve tasks assigned to new transactional lawyers and litigators, to allow students to learn the material through active participation and critical thinking

Copyright and the Challenge of the New by Brad Sherman,Leanne Wiseman Pdf

Copyright is not, as is often thought, something that is periodically ‘extended’ to cover a new field or medium; rather, copyright redefines itself whenever its efficacy is challenged. While many factors have contributed to this process, the most consistent has been the challenges created by new technologies. The contributing authors build upon this insight to show that copyright law is, and has always been, a creature of technology. Each chapter focuses on a specific technology or group of technologies – photography, telegraphy, the phonogram, radio, film, the photocopier, the tape player, television, and computer programs – emphasizing the changes that each technology instigated and the challenges and opportunities it created. Perhaps the most profound insight of this extraordinary book is the authors’ claim – ably supported in a series of intriguing chapters – that the way the law responds and reacts to new technologies is always mediated by the political, social, economic, and cultural environment in which the interaction occurs. For example, these chapters describe and explain how: statutory schemes of remuneration arose from failures to effectively police new forms of piracy; persistent litigation and lobbying by copyright owners forces legislatures and courts to devise new laws; content (e.g., sporting events) generates new rules of access to broadcasts; and ‘fair copying’ (e.g., by libraries) is the necessary exception that proves the rule. As well as providing insight into the ways that copyright law interacted with old technologies when they were new, the book also offers important insights into problems and issues currently confronting copyright law and policy such as the appropriate scope of copyright and the relation between copyright and the public interest. With the broad perspectives opened by these essays, academics, practitioners and policymakers in the field will find themselves well equipped to deal with the problems that will inevitably be created by technologies in the future.
