Generalized Inverses of Linear Transformations by Stephen L. Campbell,Carl D. Meyer Pdf

Generalized (or pseudo-) inverse concepts routinely appear throughout applied mathematics and engineering, in both research literature and textbooks. Although the basic properties are readily available, some of the more subtle aspects and difficult details of the subject are not well documented or understood. First published in 1979, Generalized Inverses of Linear Transformations remains up-to-date and readable, and it includes chapters on Markov chains and the Drazin inverse methods that have become significant to many problems in applied mathematics. The book provides comprehensive coverage of the mathematical theory of generalized inverses coupled with a wide range of important and practical applications that includes topics in electrical and computer engineering, control and optimization, computing and numerical analysis, statistical estimation, and stochastic processes. Audience: intended for use as a reference by applied scientists and engineers.

Numerical And Symbolic Computations Of Generalized Inverses by Yimin Wei,Predrag Stanimirovic,Marko Petkovic Pdf

We introduce new methods connecting numerics and symbolic computations, i.e., both the direct and iterative methods as well as the symbolic method for computing the generalized inverses. These will be useful for Engineers and Statisticians, in addition to applied mathematicians. Also, main applications of generalized inverses will be presented. Symbolic method covered in our book but not discussed in other book, which is important for numerical-symbolic computations.

Generalized Inverses and Applications by M. Zuhair Nashed Pdf

Generalized Inverses and Applications, contains the proceedings of an Advanced Seminar on Generalized Inverses and Applications held at the University of Wisconsin-Madison on October 8-10, 1973 under the auspices of the university's Mathematics Research Center. The seminar provided a forum for discussing the basic theory of generalized inverses and their applications to analysis and operator equations. Numerical analysis and approximation methods are considered, along with applications to statistics and econometrics, optimization, system theory, and operations research. Comprised of 14 chapters, this book begins by describing a unified approach to generalized inverses of linear operators, with particular reference to algebraic, topological, extremal, and proximinal properties. The reader is then introduced to the algebraic aspects of the generalized inverse of a rectangular matrix; the Fredholm pseudoinverse; and perturbations and approximations for generalized inverses and linear operator equations. Subsequent chapters deal with various applications of generalized inverses, including programming, games, and networks, as well as estimation and aggregation in econometrics. This monograph will be of interest to mathematicians and students of mathematics.

Algebraic Properties of Generalized Inverses by Dragana S. Cvetković‐Ilić,Yimin Wei Pdf

This book addresses selected topics in the theory of generalized inverses. Following a discussion of the “reverse order law” problem and certain problems involving completions of operator matrices, it subsequently presents a specific approach to solving the problem of the reverse order law for {1} -generalized inverses. Particular emphasis is placed on the existence of Drazin invertible completions of an upper triangular operator matrix; on the invertibility and different types of generalized invertibility of a linear combination of operators on Hilbert spaces and Banach algebra elements; on the problem of finding representations of the Drazin inverse of a 2x2 block matrix; and on selected additive results and algebraic properties for the Drazin inverse. In addition to the clarity of its content, the book discusses the relevant open problems for each topic discussed. Comments on the latest references on generalized inverses are also included. Accordingly, the book will be useful for graduate students, PhD students and researchers, but also for a broader readership interested in these topics.

Combinatorial Matrix Theory and Generalized Inverses of Matrices by Ravindra B. Bapat,Steve J. Kirkland,K. Manjunatha Prasad,Simo Puntanen Pdf

This book consists of eighteen articles in the area of `Combinatorial Matrix Theory' and `Generalized Inverses of Matrices'. Original research and expository articles presented in this publication are written by leading Mathematicians and Statisticians working in these areas. The articles contained herein are on the following general topics: `matrices in graph theory', `generalized inverses of matrices', `matrix methods in statistics' and `magic squares'. In the area of matrices and graphs, speci_c topics addressed in this volume include energy of graphs, q-analog, immanants of matrices and graph realization of product of adjacency matrices. Topics in the book from `Matrix Methods in Statistics' are, for example, the analysis of BLUE via eigenvalues of covariance matrix, copulas, error orthogonal model, and orthogonal projectors in the linear regression models. Moore-Penrose inverse of perturbed operators, reverse order law in the case of inde_nite inner product space, approximation numbers, condition numbers, idempotent matrices, semiring of nonnegative matrices, regular matrices over incline and partial order of matrices are the topics addressed under the area of theory of generalized inverses. In addition to the above traditional topics and a report on CMTGIM 2012 as an appendix, we have an article on old magic squares from India.

Matrix Theory by Robert Piziak,P.L. Odell Pdf

In 1990, the National Science Foundation recommended that every college mathematics curriculum should include a second course in linear algebra. In answer to this recommendation, Matrix Theory: From Generalized Inverses to Jordan Form provides the material for a second semester of linear algebra that probes introductory linear algebra concepts while also exploring topics not typically covered in a sophomore-level class. Tailoring the material to advanced undergraduate and beginning graduate students, the authors offer instructors flexibility in choosing topics from the book. The text first focuses on the central problem of linear algebra: solving systems of linear equations. It then discusses LU factorization, derives Sylvester's rank formula, introduces full-rank factorization, and describes generalized inverses. After discussions on norms, QR factorization, and orthogonality, the authors prove the important spectral theorem. They also highlight the primary decomposition theorem, Schur's triangularization theorem, singular value decomposition, and the Jordan canonical form theorem. The book concludes with a chapter on multilinear algebra. With this classroom-tested text students can delve into elementary linear algebra ideas at a deeper level and prepare for further study in matrix theory and abstract algebra.

Computation of Generalized Matrix Inverses and Applications by Ivan Stanimirović Pdf

This volume offers a gradual exposition to matrix theory as a subject of linear algebra. It presents both the theoretical results in generalized matrix inverses and the applications. The book is as self-contained as possible, assuming no prior knowledge of matrix theory and linear algebra. The book first addresses the basic definitions and concepts of an arbitrary generalized matrix inverse with special reference to the calculation of {i,j,...,k} inverse and the Moore–Penrose inverse. Then, the results of LDL* decomposition of the full rank polynomial matrix are introduced, along with numerical examples. Methods for calculating the Moore–Penrose’s inverse of rational matrix are presented, which are based on LDL* and QDR decompositions of the matrix. A method for calculating the A(2)T;S inverse using LDL* decomposition using methods is derived as well as the symbolic calculation of A(2)T;S inverses using QDR factorization. The text then offers several ways on how the introduced theoretical concepts can be applied in restoring blurred images and linear regression methods, along with the well-known application in linear systems. The book also explains how the computation of generalized inverses of matrices with constant values is performed. It covers several methods, such as methods based on full-rank factorization, Leverrier–Faddeev method, method of Zhukovski, and variations of the partitioning method.
