Reading German: Introduction by Joerg-Matthias Roche Pdf

The 'Reading German' texts and CD-ROM materials were developed to aid students in acquiring a reading knowledge of German. Through the use of these materials students are expected to obtain a level of proficiency sufficient for understanding scientific and scholarly material written in German. The course is divided into two levels. Reading German: Introduction is an introductory course that covers reading strategies, reading grammar, resources, and basic vocabulary. It leads to a second year reading knowledge of German in 12 weeks. The Humanities, Business/Economics, Chemistry, and Music books lead to a reading knowledge of German comparable to fourth year language courses and teach highly specialised language skills in the student's individual area of interest. The CD-ROM incorporates guided and independent study sections that deal with topics from Reading German: Introduction and fosters autonomous learning. The programs are designed to make efficient use of the students' subject matter knowledge, thus enabling them to deal with challenging and highly relevant topics from the beginning without the prerequisite 2-3 years of very basic language commonly taught in introductory courses. As well, the programs accommodate five different levels of text difficulty to suit the German language skills of individual students. The course materials encourage students to learn at their own pace and progress faster to higher levels of proficiency than is otherwise achieved through traditional reading courses.

Learn German for Beginners by Hello Germany MASTER SCHOOL Pdf

Buy the Paperback Version of this Book and get the Kindle Book version for FREE! As society becomes more global, you should equip yourself with knowledge of foreign languages. What better language to start with than German? German has a reputation for being a difficult language to learn especially for English speakers. While there is some truth to that - its grammar rules are more complicated and it has sounds that don't exist in the English language - learning a new language will always be a challenge, no matter what it is, to foreign language learners. This book, Learn German for Beginners, offers an effective way to learn the basics of German. But first, let's be clear about what this book isn't. If you're looking for a book that offers a method for mastering a language in few simple steps, this isn't it. If you want a book that can make you fluent in German in no time, this also isn't it. In fact, if you found a book or any language learning resource promising those kinds of things, throw them away. Learning a new language takes time and dedication. Unless you're gifted, there's no shortcut. So, what can you expect from this book? Chapter 1 is all about the basics. You'll learn about the German alphabet, which is similar to the English alphabet but sounds differently, how to pronounce words the right way, and how to deal with numbers. This chapter will also show you that you already know a significant amount of German words even before you decided to study it. The second chapter deals with nouns and its companion, the articles. It explains how to identify which nouns are masculine, feminine, or neuter and how to form the plural. As an English speaker, the concept of having gendered nouns may be unusual. This chapter is filled with examples so you can start familiarizing yourself with them. In Chapter 3 you will learn about verbs and how to conjugate them. It also explains the different verb tenses that you are most likely to use and encounter as a beginner in the German language. Chapter 4 is about the German case system. This is one of the topics that makes many learners of the German language scratch their head. Cases may seem strange when you first encounter them but if you're still familiar with the concepts of English grammar, understanding cases won't be difficult and you'll only need to memorize the rules. You'll also learn in this chapter how to form your own simple German sentences. In Chapter 5, you'll learn about adjectives, adverbs, and prepositions. This chapter discusses in detail the different rules on how to properly use these words when you build sentences. Chapters 6 to 10 contains words and expressions that you will find useful for everyday situations and for when you go on a trip to a German-speaking country. Finally, each chapter ends with a set of exercises so you can gauge how well you're doing on your German learning journey. So, if you want to improve your reading, writing, and speaking skills in this language, you need to make a change. Decide for yourself that you want to gain more opportunities. Take this risk. You will not regret it. This book is everything you need as a beginner. So, what are you still waiting for? Start reading this book to fulfill your goals! Reading Comprehension in Polish and English by Monika Kusiak Pdf

This book is about reading. Throughout the book, the author explains the complexity of the dual-language involvement of FL/L2 reading by showing how L1 and FL/L2 factors interplay in FL/L2 reading. The main aim of the book is to explore reading in English in the foreign/second language context as a cross-linguistic phenomenon and to present the results of a think-aloud study which investigated reading in Polish as the L1 and English as the FL of Polish learners of English. The project consisted of six stages, each focussing on a different aspect of reading. Thus, the following was explored: reading strategies, problems and solutions, the way the subjects constructed their representations of the texts, the students’ individual patterns of developing comprehension and effectiveness in identifying the main ideas. The findings revealed both differences and similarities between the subjects’ reading in Polish and their reading in English. The book offers implications for further research and elucidates the usefulness of think-aloud protocols in foreign language instruction.
