Anna and Dedo by Martina Gisler,René Gisler Pdf

Anna can do a lot at the age of four and she's very proud of it. But it's been pretty difficult to stop sucking her thumb. Until Anna discovers her thumb's secret and, together with her parents, finds an extraordinary solution. For children who suck their thumbs, kicking the habit is a major developmental milestone. The beautiful story of Anna and her thumb allows children to reflect on the issue without it being portrayed in a negative or embarrassing light. At the same time, it offers useful resources for children and their families. Learn more about Anna and Dedo, find information on thumb-sucking, and get access to free downloads (e.g., coloring pages and a reward calendar) at: www.annaunddedo.com. Thumb-Sucking Thumb-sucking is a natural and absolutely harmless habit for babies and toddlers up to three years of age. However, starting at the age of three, if the thumb is sucked intensively and frequently, it can lead to problems with the teeth and jaw. Therefore, most dentists recommend children stop sucking their thumbs by age three. Some children will stop sucking their thumbs on their own as they get older. Others become reliant on thumb-sucking for everyday activities like falling asleep. We believe a feel-good story, like Anna and Dedo, can make children realize that it's worth quitting. We designed this book to be positive, realistic, and to provide strategies for weaning the thumb. Kindle The digital edition of Anna and Dedo is available as a fixed format e-book, and is therefore only suitable for tablets and smartphone apps. Paperback The paperback is currently available as a softcover with a standard paper weight (100 g/m2) and is printed by Amazon. We are working on a durable hardcover version, available soon.

Helping Children Overcome Thumb Sucking by Tyler Edward Pdf

A typical behaviour among young children, thumb sucking consists of the youngster sucking his or her thumb for the purposes of soothing or comfort. Usually beginning in infancy but persisting throughout early childhood, this is a phase that children outgrow on their own. When a person engages in thumb sucking, they put their thumb inside their mouth and chew on it, usually with their fingers wrapped around it. Babies naturally and instinctively have a tendency to soothe themselves by sucking their thumbs. Babies may find it soothing and sleep easier as a result. However, if the behaviour persists through the preschool years, it might cause problems with the teeth and jaw. Problems with the child's mouth and teeth can arise from persistent thumb sucking. - Constant thumb sucking can lead to dental misalignment, such as an open bite (where there is space between the upper and lower front teeth) or an overbite (where the upper front teeth overlap the lower front teeth considerably). - Difficulties in communicating because thumb sucking might prevent the development of the muscles of the mouth and tongue. - Thumb sucking can irritate the skin and cause calluses on the thumb. - Persistent thumb sucking can become a social problem when a child gets older since it may be seen as immature or socially inappropriate. When the habit of thumb-sucking in children becomes a problem, parents and caregivers typically try different approaches to break the child of the behaviour. Positive reinforcement, providing alternatives to familiar comfort items, and addressing the underlying causes of anxiety or stress can all be effective methods for breaking the cycle of compulsive hand-washing. A thumb-sucking guard or palatal crib may be recommended by a dentist or orthodontist to avoid tooth issues and discourage thumb sucking. Thumb sucking is a common way for young children to soothe themselves, so it's best to handle the issue with compassion. If you're worried about the effects of your child's thumb-sucking habit on their teeth, it's best to talk to a pediatric dentist or orthodontist to get advice that will work for your child.

Everyday Goodbyes by Nancy Balaban Pdf

Separation often evokes feelings of fear and anxiety in all of us, children, parents, and teachers alike. Because the success or failure of early separation experiences can affect a child's movement toward independence, teachers and parents must know how to help young children cope with the unpleasant feelings sometimes associated with separation. In Everyday Goodbyes (her follow-up to Starting School: From Separation to Independence), Nancy Balaban once again addresses this critical aspect of child development. Emphasizing the need for parents and teachers to work together in phasing children into a child-care, preschool, or kindergarten program, she offers many sensitive, practical suggestions to ease the separation process for all involved. Positioning separation as the underlying curriculum for all early childhood programs, this wonderful book helps teachers and parents to understand why children take time to adjust. Photographs and real-life anecdotes of children, teachers, and parents illustrate all aspects of the adjustment process, and activities for the classroom that support children''s movement toward independence and self-confidence are included.
