Land Grabbing and Home Country Development by Ariane Goetz Pdf

Since 2008, foreign land acquisitions have attracted international attention under the term »land grabbing.« Illustrated by rich and nuanced empirical accounts of forty Chinese and British investment projects in Sub-Saharan Africa, Ariane Goetz explains the phenomenon of »land grabbing« from the perspective of two investor countries. She reflects on Chinese and British public policy, state-society relations, national developmental contexts, ideologies, and international relations and thereby gives insights into the political economies that enable these investments as well as the development ambitions and institutionalized paradigms of which they form a part.

Grabbing Mane by Natalie Keller Reinert Pdf

"Buy a horse, they said. It will be fun, they said." What happens when an adult woman tries to pursue a childhood passion? Casey Halbach's about to find out. Up until this point, her life was perfectly on track. She had it all: good friends, loving boyfriend, decent job with her very own cubicle. Sure, maybe things feel boring, a little flat - but that's just life, right? Then, she met Sky. Riding instructor, barn manager, and whirlwind of energy, Sky effortlessly launches Casey back into the saddle. After fifteen years behind a desk, Casey was a little rusty... but the more time she spends at the stable, the more she never wants to leave. Friends are confused, the boyfriend is concerned, and Casey is conflicted -- but when she decides to take the plunge and buy a horse of her own, she realizes that she was just dabbling in the shallow end before. Now, Casey's pretty sure she's in over her head, but the crazy thing is: She thinks she likes it this way. Can anyone balance life, work, and horses? Casey's going to give it a try. Indeed, she's pretty sure she doesn't have a choice. For anyone who has ever loved a horse, dreamed about their very own pony, or simply clock-watched their way through another boring day at the office, Grabbing Mane is our story. Testing the boundaries of who we think we are, adjusting to strange new realities, and (hopefully) bringing our partners along for the ride: balancing real life, and equestrian life, isn't easy. Grabbing Mane is Book One in a new series about adult amateur equestrian life, from award-winning author Natalie Keller Reinert. Early Reviews for Grabbing Mane: "Natalie has done it again and with all new characters! I loved getting to know Casey, Brandon and of course the lovely James! I especially liked the fact that Casey was just like all of us, bitten by the horse bug but having to make her way in the real world, with all the conflicts and confidence issues that haunt horse-girls everyday." - Kathleen Edwards, Goodreads "It is relatable and extremely well-written. Anyone who has been into horses and has walked away for a while will understand." -Jo, Goodreads

This is a first-person account of Patrick Michael Mooney's life of crime and his failed attempts to redeem himself by becoming a police informant. His heavy drug use and drug results in him being confine in some of the harshest prisons in the U.S. and Canada. His romance with a beautiful model ends tragically when a Toronto Metro policeman shoots her 'accidentally'. Upon his release Patrick launches into a crime spree that ends with him being charged with multiple crimes. He skips bail and hides in a remote work camp north-eastern British Columbia. He is recaptured and while awaiting a court hearing in Calgary he masterminds a daring escape, steals a car and begins a cross-Canada crime spree with an increasingly dangerous fellow escapee. They are recaptured and both sent to Dorchester Penitentiary where his dangerous fellow escapee plots to have him killed. Upon his release from prison he finds it difficult to adjust to life outside prison until he undertakes dangerous assignments as a police informant. Grab Bag by Charlotte MacLeod Pdf

Seventeen priceless stories from the author often referred to as “America’s Agatha Christie” Charlotte MacLeod’s heroes were men and women like Peter Shandy and Sarah Kelling—genteel sleuths who fight crime with brains, not brawn—and her settings were the drawing rooms and servants’ quarters of New England and beyond. With a keen wit and a strong eye for detail, she crafted some of the most memorable victims, murderers, and innocent bystanders of twentieth-century detective novels. In this volume, she proves herself a master of the short story as well. Here is the original Peter Shandy story, featuring the school that would eventually metamorphose into Balaclava Agricultural College. Here is peculiar Cousin Claude, who strangles himself with his own necktie. And here is the tale that answers the question “What does Max Bittersohn do when his wife is not around?” Whether the characters are familiar or not, the style is irresistible, and the mysteries are as delightfully puzzling as ever.
