Stopping Power by Evan Marshall,Edwin J. Sanow Pdf
Evan Marshall and Ed Sanow rocked the firearms world with the release of Handgun Stopping Power and Street Stoppers. Both books predicted the effectiveness of all types of ammunition by studying the results of real-life shootings rather than relying on laboratory tests that ignored the dynamics of an actual gunfight. This third book in the series provides the very latest street results of all the major handgun calibers, from .22 LR to .45 ACP, as well as popular rifle and shotgun loads. It also contains chapters on short-barrel ballistics, the emergence of the hot new .357 SIG caliber, the continued success of the .40 S&W, the development of the latest exotic ammo, the effectiveness of black powder firearms and a brand-new ammo test protocol based on the results of the many gunfights of U.S. Border Patrol officers.
Handgun Bullet Stopping Power by George B. Bredsten Pdf
For the law enforcement officer and the civilian who may be in a situation that requires the use of a handgun to stop a lethal threat action, it is important that the person differentiates between the crass, glib and self-serving advertisements of ammunition vendors and the reality of how, what and why effective stopping power occurs. Factors to consider are the physiological response, the psychological response, the time frame parameter and bullet efficacy. Of these four factors, only bullet efficacy can be somewhat controlled by the person, this only by understanding how and to what extent the bullet contributes to the degree of stopping power obtained. A number of concepts / formulae have been included so as to permit the reader to consider their merits and whether or not they are consistent with the reality of biology, physics and other relevant sciences. Finally the material in this book is intended to permit those persons to instruct, teach or make decisions regarding the selection of a service handgun/cartridge combination that will help to provide the means to prevail in a lethal threat confrontation. About the Author: Mr. Bredsten retired from the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center/Firearms Division (FLETC/FAD). With FLETC/FAD he performed duties as a firearms instructor and he also taught ballistics to the FLETC/FAD staff and to students in the Law Enforcement Rifle Training Program and in the Precision Rifle (Sniper) and Observer Program. Subjects covered included the ballistic coefficient, barrel time, the coefficient of reduction (form), Greenhill formula (rate of rifling twist), firearm recoil, bullet time-of-flight, bullet drop, bullet midrange, wind deflection, bullet penetration potential and bullet terminal (wounding) efficacy. Since retiring he has provided ballistics consultation service for the FLETC/FAD, the Transportation Security Agency, the Orange County (Florida) Sheriff's Department and Exxon Mobil Corporation. Mr. Bredsten attended and completed various classes/courses relating to firearms (e.g., H&K MP5, Steyr Aug, Uzi, Tactical Speed Shooting and advanced shotgun) and ballistics (e.g., the first and second International Wound Ballistics Conferences, a Federal Law Enforcement Ammunition and Ballistics Seminar and Oehler's Ballistic Instrumentation). Mr. Bredsten has an AA degree from Chaffey Jr. College and a BA degree from Sacramento State College and currently resides in Georgia.

Stopping Power by Joseph Neil Schulman,J. Neil Shulman Pdf
Did you know that every 13 seconds one of America's 70 million gun owners uses a firearm in defense against a criminal? That American women use handguns 416 times a day in defense against rapists, which is a dozen times more often than rapists use a gun? That a gun kept in the home for protection is 216 times as likely to be used in defense against a criminal than it is to cause the death of an innocent victim in that household? These are just a few of the surprises this book has in store for anyone whose belief in gun control is based on TV news or popular magazines. Award-winning novelist, screenwriter, and journalist, J. Neil Schulman, challenges the misinformation that pundits ranging from network anchors to ill-informed doctors are promoting about guns. Especially for the reader who doesn't own a gun and has never even considered buying one, Stopping Power should be an eye-opener.

In Fighting Handguns, author Jeff Cooper not only takes the reader through the development of this weapon from its beginnings in mid-16th-century Europe through the various iterations of single- and double-action revolvers and semiautomatic pistols, he also discusses some important aspects of carrying and shooting a fighting handgun under combat conditions. “For good or ill, man is a fighting animal. While most feel that this is an unmitigated evil, it may, like most aspects of nature, have its positive side. Certainly man’s combative nature is responsible for most of the massive tragedy of history, but it’s possible that history of any sort just wouldn’t have happened had it not been characteristic of the race to struggle against its environment. And man’s environment, of course, includes man. A placid, gentle, contented creature—a koala, for instance—is nice to contemplate but does not progress, and if it encounters a challenge it simply dies. Whether progress, at the price of a fighting disposition, is worth it is a question, but it’s a bit on the academic side. Man is the way he is, and gets along as he must. Being human, we are involved in strife. Much as we may deplore this, we must master the techniques of strife or perish. “This book is devoted to one of these techniques—the one-hand firearm as used by man against man.”—Jeff Cooper

Guns can be very effective tools, but they are each of limited utility. There is no one weapon that is perfect for every purpose. Private persons may own a number of guns that fulfill a variety of functions. Ballistics is important for soldiers, law enforcement, sportsmen, and anyone who seeks to protect their life, their home, their family, or their workplace. If you are among these, this book is for you.Not surprisingly, gun owners and firearms enthusiasts are often part of a "social gun culture" in which certain facts, trends, and fads circulate and evolve with time, some stirring intense loyalty among shooters even when the realities suggest otherwise. For the average gun user some very popular myths, misconceptions, and miscalculations concerning ballistics and the terminal effects of bullets are strongly held, and it is not the purpose of this discussion to demonstrate why they are or are not true, only to lay out the parameters of the debate so that the readers can make their own judgments with increased confidence. The origin of ballistics is in the study of the flight path of projectiles, but its domain has been expanded in modern times. Among the modern ballistic sciences are areas of interest concerning how ammunition and weapons operate.
