What the Whole Family Said by Hans Christian Andersen Pdf

Today, is the birthday of little Marie, she is overwhelmed with gifts, each one more beautiful than the last: a toy kitchen, a doll, a picture book and more. But for Marie the best gift would be to have many more birthdays, she loves life and intends to live for a long time! And this is what her family think of that... Hans Christian Andersen (1805-1875) was a Danish author, poet and artist. Celebrated for children’s literature, his most cherished fairy tales include "The Emperor's New Clothes", "The Little Mermaid", "The Nightingale", "The Steadfast Tin Soldier", "The Snow Queen", "The Ugly Duckling" and "The Little Match Girl". His books have been translated into every living language, and today there is no child or adult that has not met Andersen's whimsical characters. His fairy tales have been adapted to stage and screen countless times, most notably by Disney with the animated films "The Little Mermaid" in 1989 and "Frozen", which is loosely based on "The Snow Queen", in 2013. Thanks to Andersen's contribution to children's literature, his birth date, April 2, is celebrated as International Children's Book Day.

Hans Andersen's Stories - Illustrated by Jennie Harbour by Hans Christian Andersen Pdf

Originally published in 1922, Hans Andersen Stories, is illustrated with the magnificent colour and black and white illustrations of Jennie Harbour. This collection contains some of Andersen’s best stories, including such well-known and loved tales as ‘The Emperor’s New Clothes’, ‘The Steadfast Tin Soldier’, ‘The Ugly Duckling’, ‘The Snow Queen’ and ‘The Princess and the Pea’. Hans Christian Andersen (1805-1875) was a Danish poet and author celebrated for his children’s stories, but perhaps best known for his fables and fairy tales – meant for both adults and children. They were frequently written in a colloquial style, using idioms and spoken language in a manner previously unseen in Danish literature. Though simple at first glance, Hans Andersen stories often convey sophisticated moral teachings, in equal measure heart-breaking and heart-warming. Jennie Harbour (1893 – 1950) was an immensely talented and popular illustrator. Despite this, very little is known about her life. She managed to capture the public’s imagination with her delicate and ethereal illustrations. They most commonly featured subtle yet bold washes of colour, with few of the thick black outlines so common in other illustrations of the day. Vibrant colours and Art Deco patterns full of energy and emotion characterise Harbour’s work. Presented alongside the text, Harbour’s illustrations further refine and elucidate Andersen’s captivating narratives.

Fairy Tales of Hans Christian Andersen by Andersen Pdf

Fairy Tales of Hans Christian Andersen by Hans Christian Andersen. As the story began; Near the grass-covered rampart which encircles Copenhagen lies a great red house. Balsams and other flowers greet us from the long rows of windows in the house, whose interior is sufficiently poverty-stricken; and poor and old are the people who inhabit it. The building is the Warton Almshouse. Look! at the window there leans an old maid. She plucks the withered leaf from the balsam, and looks at the grass-covered rampart, on which many children are playing. What is the old maid thinking of? A whole life drama is unfolding itself before her inward gaze. "The poor little children, how happy they are-how merrily they play and romp together! What red cheeks and what angels' eyes! but they have no shoes nor stockings. They dance on the green rampart, just on the place where, according to the old story, the ground always sank in, and where a sportive, frolicsome child had been lured by means of flowers, toys and sweetmeats into an open grave ready dug for it, and which was afterwards closed over the child; and from that moment, the old story says, the ground gave way no longer, the mound remained firm and fast, and was quickly covered with the green turf............
