In the Secret of His Presence by George Halley Knight Pdf
APART from strictly devotional books, a large proportion of the practical Christian literature of the day concerns itself rather with the outer manifestations of the Christian life than with its inner experiences. The Christian as he moves among men is in view, rather than the Christian as he is alone with God. Books of this class are invaluable helps to Christian living, and can hardly be multiplied too much. But, along with these, there may be some room for books of another class, books dealing specially with the inner soul-experiences which vitalise the life that is seen. This volume is meant to be of such a kind: to set forth in some degree the sacred privilege of secret fellowship with God, and to urge the need of making that intercourse with Him more frequent and more prolonged. If it helps any reader of it to realise more fully the joy to be found in the secret place of meditation and prayer, its purpose will be fulfilled.
Selected by the Modern Library as one of the 100 best nonfiction books of all time "Eminent Victorians" marked an epoch in the art of biography; it also helped to crack the old myths of high Victorianism and to usher in a new spirit by which chauvinism, hypocrisy and the stiff upper lip were debunked. In it, Strachey cleverly exposes the self-seeking ambitions of Cardinal Manning and the manipulative, neurotic Florence Nightingale; and in his essays on Dr Arnold and General Gordon, his quarries are not only his subjects but also the public-school system and the whole structure of nineteenth-century liberal values.
Eminent Victorians is a book by Lytton Strachey. It consists of biographies of four leading figures from the Victorian era: Cardinal Manning, Florence Nightingale, Thomas Arnold and General Gordon.
The Collected Biographies of Eminent Victorians by Lytton Strachey Pdf
Eminent Victorians is a book by Lytton Strachey, consisting of biographies of four leading figures from the Victorian era. Its fame rests on the irreverence and wit Strachey brought to bear on three men and a woman who had until then been regarded as heroes: Cardinal Manning, Florence Nightingale, Thomas Arnold and General Gordon (although Nightingale is actually praised and her reputation was enhanced). The book shows its other subjects in a less than flattering light; for instance, the intrigues of Cardinal Manning against Cardinal Newman.

The Space Law Stalemate by Anja Nakarada Pečujlić Pdf
The governing international space law regime has been locked in a norm-creation stalemate for over 40 years. This stalemate endangers the preservation of established, guiding legal principles, as well as the sustainability of the parts of outer space that humans utilize. The discrepancy between norm creation, technological advancement, and the ecosystem of novel actors could generate serious consequences for future space activities and the nature of international relations. Besides the return of old rivalries in a New Cold War, new activities and actors emerging amidst a legal void emphasizes the risks of the stalemate: unstable peace, fragile cooperation, uneven technological development, and uncertain eco-sustainability. The prolonged legal stalemate cannot be treated simply as an academic question, for it has broader political and economic implications of growing strategic relevance. Unresolved issues in international space law could threaten the survival of space as a global common, thus it is essential that the ability of the norm-creation mechanism of UN COPUOS is equipped to address the ongoing changes and provide for adequate global governance. This book evaluates the current legal state and sheds light on potential future prospects, offering an overview of the political context within which it developed, providing an assessment of the selected successful examples in international law, and analyzing lessons learned. It makes recommendations for how the UN COPUOS legal apparatus should be modified in order to ensure that future space activities are possible beyond anarchy, greed, and ecological irresponsibility, and to ensure that the principle of the peaceful uses of outer space remains the governing norm.
Jesus spoke of the Tribulation and Great Tribulation od those days. The question may be asked "Which days?" Are we living in the final hours, years, months, and seconds of earth's history? Is this the end for the late great planet Earth? What is the "sign" of Jesus' coming and the end of the age? With countless catastrophes that have plagued this old earth have we finally felt them all or will there be catastrophes that are yet to be seen? Is the Antichrist just a figment of our imagination or will there be a global world leader who will not acknowledge anyone including God? If you want to know what time we are living in prophetically then read this book. If you don't care about such things then don't read this book. Whether we want to believe it or not this is the beginning of the end of the age. This is the beginning of the tragedy for many. This in truth is the Coming Catastrophe: The Beginning of Sorrows.
In the popular imagination, space is the final frontier. Will that frontier be a wild west, or will it instead be treated as the oceans are: as a global commons, where commerce is allowed to flourish and no one country dominates? At this moment, nations are free to send missions to Mars or launch space stations. Space satellites are vital to many of the activities that have become part of our daily lives—from weather forecasting to GPS and satellite radio. The militaries of the United States and a host of other nations have also made space a critical arena—spy and communication satellites are essential to their operations. Beginning with the Reagan administration and its attempt to create a missile defense system to protect against attack by the Soviet Union, the U.S. military has decided that the United States should be the dominant power in space in order to protect civilian and defense assets. In Heavenly Ambitions, Joan Johnson-Freese draws from a myriad of sources to argue that the United States is on the wrong path: first, by politicizing the question of space threats and, second, by continuing to believe that military domination in space is the only way to protect U.S. interests in space. Johnson-Freese, who has written and lectured extensively on space policy, lays out her vision of the future of space as a frontier where nations cooperate and military activity is circumscribed by arms control treaties that would allow no one nation to dominate—just as no one nation's military dominates the world's oceans. This is in the world's interest and, most important, in the U.S. national interest.
