Mechanical Link by Paul Chauffour,Eric Prat Pdf

Developed in the late ’70s by French osteopath Paul Chauffour, Mechanical Link is a gentle manual therapy that encourages the balance of tensions in the fascial system—that complex web of tissue that interconnects and affects all other body systems. It spreads throughout the body uninterrupted, providing physical stability while also allowing flexibility and mobility. Based on the principle that traumatic stress affects the interconnecting tissues of the body by forming patterns of tension called lesions, Mechanical Link therapy has successfully treated fibromyalgia, migraines, asthma, and other conditions. Extremely popular in Europe, it is rapidly gaining adherents in North America. This book, complete with 44 black-and-white photographs and 20 color illustrations, is a comprehensive manual for diagnosing and treating patients. Mechanical Link therapy is guided by the body’s own wisdom about its unique needs. The work stimulates to the body’s self-corrective responses, promoting normal mobility, tissue tone and posture. Mechanical Link brings tension into equilibrium and allows the body to return to optimal functioning ability, so all its systems can improve—including the immune system. The Philosophy and Mechanical Principles of Osteopathy by A. Still Pdf

This insightful manual by Andrew Taylor Still, the founder of osteopathic medicine, sheds light upon the thinking and practices of osteopathy - in so doing, he reveals the history behind the treatment. By explaining the fundamental reasoning behind osteopathic procedure, Still offers readers a blueprint of his own medical practice. Descriptions of treatment inclusive of case studies make this text a valuable document in the history of osteopathy. We learn how processes of the body involving the bones, organs, blood and nerves interact - these processes form pillars of A. T. Still's attitude to human maladies and disease. Chapters of this book are devoted to regions of the body which Still holds to be significant to osteopathy. The functions of the organs are discussed, and their behavior when confronted with sickness and fever detailed. More curiously, Still also appends a chapter on earwax - a useful substance which he held in high regard as the perfect example of nature never making anything in vain. Renowned in his native Missouri to this day as a pioneer in medicine and surgery, A. T. Still spent decades in medical practice and co-founded Baker University in Kansas. Although aspects of his osteopathic theory have fallen out of favor, many hospitals and trained practitioners continue to employ osteopathic therapy with good results, particularly concerning spinal disorders and associated chronic pain.

History of Osteopathy, and Twentieth-Century Medical Practice (Classic Reprint) by Emmons Rutledge Booth Pdf

Excerpt from History of Osteopathy, and Twentieth-Century Medical Practice The compilation of the History of Osteopathy and Twentieth-Century Medical Practice was not undertaken because of a pressing demand. It seemed to have dawned upon the mind of several osteopaths about the same time that such a work ought to be issued during the life of Dr. Andrew Taylor Still and others most intimately connected with the origin and early development of the science. The author was requested by several of his professional friends to undertake the work, which he did with much reluctance. He felt that he had a great responsibility resting upon him. Once thoroughly entered upon the work, the magnitude of the task became evident; but the richness of the mine of truth in which he was delving, made the search one of constantly growing interest. Direct information was obtained from Dr. A. T. Still and from many who were intimate with him before Osteopathy was known and during its process of development. Many of the facts given are drawn from the authors personal knowledge; and others are from traditions or unwritten history which has become the common property of scores who are acquainted with the development of Osteopathy and of those who have known Dr. Still for years. The chapters relating to other systems of medicine and methods of procedure in treating diseases of the human body were not contemplated in the original plan. In order that Osteopathy might be seen in its true relations, and its independent position in the science and art of healing be fully understood, it seemed necessary to present a few facts concerning present medical practices. This was the more imperative because of the vilification and constant misrepresentation of Osteopathy by the established medical profession. It will require no stretch of the imagination to see that the facts at first sight apparently foreign to Osteopathy are an integral part of the history.
