An Historical Account of the Rise and Develoopment of Presbyterianism in Scotland by ALEXANDER HUGH. BRUCE Pdf

Excerpt from An Historical Account of the Rise and Development of Presbyterianism in Scotland Throughout the whole history of the Reformed Church in Scotland one of the most outstanding features will be found to be the overwhelming desire to maintain the independence of the Church from all secular control, and the most characteristic feature of the disputes which went on during the reigns of the Stewart Kings (especially James VI and I, and Charles I), was the failure of those Monarchs to appreciate the Scottish sentiments Of Patriotism, Protestantism and Freedom. The Early Days of St. Cuthbert's Church, Edinburgh (Classic Reprint) by George Lorimer Pdf

Excerpt from The Early Days of St. Cuthbert's Church, Edinburgh IN this volume 1 have endeavoured to draw from the ih formation contained ih its records a few pictures of the most striking features in the history of St Cuthbert's in its early days, and in particular of the way in which the members of its kirk-session attended to their duties. The story is a short one, and only calls for a preface in this way, that it enables me to explain why some of the incidents referred to, which have already been mentioned in a little volume published nearly thirty years ago, are again discussed. The volume in question has long been out of print; that part of its contents again appear is be cause, 'were they omitted, some of the most interesting matters found in the church records would be lost sight of; hence no apology is made for their introduction. The History of the Kirk of Scotland by John Row Pdf

Excerpt from The History of the Kirk of Scotland: From the Year 1558 to August 1637 The Council of the Wodrow Society, in considering the works most suitable for commencing the series of their publication, were desirous of furnishing the Members with a volume relating to the History of the Church immediately subsequent to the period of the Reformation. For this purpose, the Manuscripts of John Row, minister of Carnock, so frequently referred to by subsequent writers, were brought under their notice. It was indeed known that an edition of Row's History was actually in the press for the Maitland Club, Glasgow, while another was announced as contemplated by the Spalding Club, Aberdeen; but it was considered that any such publications, restricted as either of these editions would necessarily be to a very limited number of members, or a local circulation, should present no adequate reason to deter the Council from authorising the work to be printed in a more accessible form.
