Hitler's Headquarters by Blaine Taylor Pdf

Blaine Taylor has written and assembled a fascinating photographic history of Adolf Hitler's many headquarters, both before and during World War II. Taylor includes all of the private residences, offices, command posts, and even mobile headquarters from which the Nazi dictator planned his rise to power and the conquest of Europe. Taylor recounts the background and physical description of each headquarters while also relating these locations' importance to the larger story of Nazi Germany and World War II. Restless, Hitler rarely worked at a desk and was almost always on the move during the war, with headquarters scattered throughout Germany and across the continent from the Ukraine to Belgium. Taylor describes the best-known headquarters, such as Wolf's Lair, the Berchtesgaden complex, and the Berlin bunker, but he also includes many lesser-known ones such as Hitler's armored train Amerika, Felsennest near the Belgian border, and the compound codenamed Tannenberg in the Black Forest. Hitler spent a fortune on these varied sites, some of which he never used. Ultimately, and perhaps fittingly, he spent his final days before committing suicide holed up in his extensive bunker deep beneath Berlin.

Hitler's Headquarters, 1939–1945 by Ian Baxter Pdf

As well as being pathological about his security, Hitler believed only he could successfully oversee the Third Reichs operations. Thus he divided his time between his numerous HQs spread across his empire. We gain an insight into the atmosphere of fear and boredom, interspersed with outbursts of rage often against his generals that existed in these extraordinary installations. The book also reveals the extent of the engineering and building effort required to produce this chain of reinforced bunkers, which were constructed by huge labor forces of The Todt Organization. The book concludes with Hitlers final days in Chancellery bunker as the Russians advanced on Berlin.

Wolf's Lair by Ian Baxter Pdf

From the infamous Wolf’s Lair, decisions were made and orders given that would play a vital part in the outcome of the Second World War. Seeking to reveal the truth, Ian Baxter examines and analyses the inner workings of Hitler’s secret headquarters, using not just archival resources but also contemporary writings from the Fu ̈hrer’s closest personal staff and associates. It was in these claustrophobic bunkers of the Führerhauptquartiere that war-changing conversations took place, but the Führer would also stroll through the headquarters and chat to workmen labouring over its defences. Through the location of the Wolf’s Lair, Baxter is able to track Hitler’s triumphs and ultimate demise as fortune turned against his forces, and as he stood uncowed in the face of the unsurpassable enemy and his own deteriorating health.h

Hitler’s Wolfsschanze by John Grehan Pdf

This detailed guide to Hitler’s secret Prussian headquarters is fully illustrated with historic photos and rare color images of how it appears today. Set deep in the Masurian woods of northern Poland, formally East Prussia, lies a vast complex of ruined bunkers known as the Wolfsschanze or Wolf’s Lair. This was Hitler’s headquarters for the German attack on the Soviet Union in 1941. It is also where Colonel von Stauffenberg almost killed Hitler in the summer of 1944. Built in under total secrecy, the Wolfsschanze was camouflaged with artificial grass and trees. Drawing on a unique collection of color photographs, Hitler’s Wolfsschanze presents a detailed tour of the 2.5 square mile campus as it appears today—with each building and its purpose identified. Laced with personal accounts of the installation and Hitler’s routines, the Wolfsschanze is brought to life once more. Yet the Wolfsschanze was not the only German military complex in this small part of the Eastern Front. This comprehensive volume also shows and describes the German Army’s headquarters at Mauerwald, the Luftwaffe’s headquarters near the current Russian border, and those of the SS and the Reich Chancellery, both situated near the Wolfsschanze.

Hitler's Alpine Headquarters by James Wilson Pdf

Hitler's Alpine Headquarters look at the development of the Obersalzberg from a small, long established farming community, into Hitler's country residence and the Nazis' southern headquarters. Introducing new images and additional text, this book is a much expanded sequel to the author's acclaimed Hitler's Alpine Retreat (P & S 2005). This book will appeal to those with a general interest in the Third Reich. It explains how and why Hitler chose this area to build a home and his connection to this region.??New chapters focus on buildings and individuals of Hitler's inner circle not covered in the earlier book. The development of the region is extensively covered by use of contemporary propaganda postcards and accompanying detailed text. Presenting the history of this region and the many associated important historical moments in contemporary postcards allows the reader to view the subject matter as it was presented to the masses at that time. With over 300 images and three maps, and the opportunity to compare a number of 'then and now' images, the story of Hitler's Southern Headquarters is brought to life through this extensive coverage.??Two seasons as an expert tour guide specializing in the history of the region during the Third Reich period allowed the author to carry out his own detailed research. There is an interview with a local man, who, as a small boy was photographed with Hitler, together with comments gathered during a recent meeting with Rochus Misch who served on Hitler's staff.

Hitler's Wolfsschanze by John Grehan Pdf

Set deep in the heart of the Masurian woods of northern Poland, in what was formally East Prussia, lies a vast complex of ruined bunkers and shelters that once constituted Hitler's headquarters - the Wolfsschanze or Wolf's Lair - for Germany's attack upon the Soviet Union in 1941. Built in conditions of the utmost secrecy, the Wolfsschanze was surrounded by fences and guard posts, its paths and tracks were hidden, and buildings were camouflaged and concealed with artificial grass and trees planted on their flat roofs. As the war in Eastern Europe continued, so the Wolf's Lair grew in scale and sophistication, until it's 2.5 square miles incorporated more than eighty buildings including massive reinforced bunkers. It was also at the Wolfsschanze that Colonel von Stauffenberg almost killed Hitler in the summer of 1944. That building is still there, its roof sitting on its collapsed walls. With the aid of a unique collection of color photographs, the reader is guided around the Wolfsschanze as it appears today, with each building and its purpose identified. Laced with numerous personal accounts of the installation and of Hitler's routines, supplemented with contemporary images, the Wolfsschanze is brought to life once more. The Wolfsschanze, however, was not the only military complex in this small part of the Eastern Front. Once Hitler has established his command centre at the Wolfsschanze, in effect the home of the Oberkommando der Wehrmacht (or military high command), the other branches of the German armed forces and civil authorities quickly followed suit. Just a few miles away, for example, the German Army built its own operational headquarters at Mauerwald - a complex which amounted to an even greater concentration of buildings, many of which remain intact and open to the public. Göring duly ordered that the Luftwaffe's headquarters, codenamed Robinson, be built further out near the current Russian border, whilst Himmler's SS headquarters at Hochwald and that for Hans Lammers' Reich Chancellery were situated back nearer the Wolfsschanze. For the first time, these astonishing sites, five complexes from which the war on the Eastern Front was directed, are shown and described in one book, providing a comprehensive survey of the installations whose gigantic scale still evinces awe and wonder.

Inside Hitler's High Command by Geoffrey P. Megargee Pdf

Challenging previous accounts, Megargee shatters the myth that German generals would have prevailed in World War II if only Hitler had not meddled in their affairs. Instead, he observes that the military's strategic ideas were no better than Hitler's and often were worse. 20 photos.
