Surveillance of Environmental Pollution and Resources by Electromagnetic Waves by T. Lund Pdf

These proceedings contain lectures, research papers and working group reports from the NATO Advanced Study Institute on "Surveillance of environmental pollution and resources by electromagnetic waves", held at Spatind, Norway, April 9-19, 1978. Remote sensing of the environment has developed into a very complex multidisciplinary field. It encompasses a huge range of different instrumental techniques and analytical methods, designed to provide information about a vast number of environmental parameters. Nevertheless, the approach to solve specific problems and the ways of handling the collected information are to a large extent the same or similar. This commonality is the basis for the Advanced Study Institute. To provide the best possible background, both tutoria11y and for a fruitful exchange of research ideas and results, a number of outstanding scientists were invited to review some major fields. The material presented in these proceedings is certainly not complete in the sense that it covers all aspects of the subject. The selection is deliberately due to the program committee and the editor. The program committee would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Ti10 Kester, head of the NATO Advanced Study Institute Program, NATO Scientific Affairs Division, for his support and encouragement during the organization of the Institute. Oslo, June 1978.

Ultrashort Laser Pulse Phenomena by Jean-Claude Diels,Wolfgang Rudolph Pdf

Ultrashort Laser Pulse Phenomena, Second Edition serves as an introduction to the phenomena of ultra short laser pulses and describes how this technology can be used to examine problems in areas such as electromagnetism, optics, and quantum mechanics. Ultrashort Laser Pulse Phenomena combines theoretical backgrounds and experimental techniques and will serve as a manual on designing and constructing femtosecond ("faster than electronics") systems or experiments from scratch. Beyond the simple optical system, the various sources of ultrashort pulses are presented, again with emphasis on the basic concepts and how they apply to the design of particular sources (dye lasers, solid state lasers, semiconductor lasers, fiber lasers, and sources based on frequency conversion). Provides an easy to follow guide through "faster than electronics" probing and detection methods THE manual on designing and constructing femtosecond systems and experiments Discusses essential technology for applications in micro-machining, femtochemistry, and medical imaging

NMR Studies of Translational Motion by William S. Price Pdf

Translational motion in solution, either diffusion or fluid flow, is at the heart of chemical and biochemical reactivity. Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) provides a powerful non-invasive technique for studying the phenomena using magnetic field gradient methods. Describing the physical basis of measurement techniques, with particular emphasis on diffusion, balancing theory with experimental observations and assuming little mathematical knowledge, this is a strong, yet accessible, introduction to the field. A detailed discussion of magnetic field gradient methods applied to Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is included, alongside extensive referencing throughout, providing a timely, definitive book to the subject, ideal for researchers in the fields of physics, chemistry and biology.

Optical Holography by P. Hariharan Pdf

This book presents a self-contained treatment of the principles, techniques and applications of optical holography, with particular emphasis on recent developments. The first part deals with the theory of holographic imaging, the characteristics of the reconstructed image and the different types of holograms. The next section covers the practical aspects of holography - optical systems, light sources and recording media - as well as the production of holograms for display, colour holography and computer-generated holograms. Finally, there is a detailed description of the most important applications of holography. These include particle-size analysis, high-resolution imaging, holographic optical elements and information storage and processing, as well as holographic interferometry and its use in stress analysis, vibration studies and contouring.

Holographic Imaging by Stephen A. Benton,V. Michael Bove, Jr. Pdf

The only all-inclusive treatment of holography—from fundamental principles to the most advanced concepts While several existing texts cover different aspects of the field of holography, none provides a complete, up-to-date, and accessible view of its popular, scientific, and engineering aspects. Now, from an author team that includes one of the world's pioneers in the field, Holographic Imaging fills this need with a single, comprehensive text that covers the subject from traditional holography to the cutting-edge development of the world's most advanced three-dimensional holographic images, holographic printing, and holographic video. Written in an engaging and easy-to-follow style, Holographic Imaging promotes a hands-on approach to making holograms and provides readers with a working understanding of how and why they work. Following a brief introduction to the fundamentals of light and diffraction, coverage includes: the diffraction efficiency of gratings, "platonic" holography, a ray-tracing analysis of holography, holographic lenses and in-line "Gabor" holography, off-axis "Leith & Upatnieks" holography, non-laser illumination of holograms, phase conjunction and real image projection, full-aperture transfer holography, white-light transmission "rainbow" holography, practical issues in rainbow holography, in-line "Denisyuk" reflection holography, off-axis reflection holography, edge-lit holography, computational display holography, holographic printing, and holographic television. Helpful diagrams and equations that summarize the mathematical and physical principles for each technique discussed make this an approachable resource for readers from a variety of backgrounds, including undergraduate and postgraduate students with an interest in optics, optoelectronics, and information display, as well as researchers, scientists, engineers, and technology-savvy artists.

Diffusion Tensor Imaging by Bram Stieltjes,Romuald M. Brunner,Klaus Fritzsche,Frederik Laun Pdf

Diffusion Tensor Imaging (DTI) is a variation of diffusion-weighed imaging. Particularly in the neurosciences, this technique has gained tremendous momentum in the past decade, both from a technical point of view as well as in its applications. DTI is mainly used in neurological diagnosis and psychiatric and neurologic research, e.g. in order to locate brain tumors and depict their invasivity. DTI offers a unique in-vivo insight into the three-dimensional structure of the human central nervous system. While easy interpretation and evaluation is often hampered by the complexity of both the technique and neuroanatomy, this atlas helps you recognize every one of the important structures rapidly and unambiguously. In the introduction, this atlas provides a concise outline of the evolution of diffusion imaging and describes its potential applications. In the core part of the atlas, the neuroanatomically important structures are clearly labeled both on DTI-derived color maps and conventional MRI. Complex fiber architecture is illustrated schematically and described concisely in textboxes directly on the relevant page. In the final part of the atlas, a straightforward, step-by-step approach for the three-dimensional reconstruction of the most prominent fiber structures is given, and potential pitfalls are indicated. The atlas aims at neuroscientists, neuoanatomists, neurologists, psychiatrists, clinical psychologists, physicists, and computer scientists. For advanced users, the atlas may serve as a reference work, while students and scientists are thoroughly introduced in DTI.
