House of Faith House of Cards by Eric N. Davis Pdf

"Concise. Vivid. Honest." - Dan Barker, critically acclaimed author of 'Godless' and 'Losing Faith in Faith' "Brutally honest, insightful, and compelling storytelling." - Lyndon Lamborn, author of 'Standing for Something More' When a young couple searched for clues connecting them to a famous ancestor, their journey led them on a path they never expected – converting to Mormonism. House of Faith House of Cards tells the turbulent life story of their son, Eric, including all the typical Mormon experiences, and some extraordinary episodes no Mormon will ever encounter. He participated with family members in his first secret temple ritual – normally reserved for adults – at the age of four, only to be excluded from a similar ceremony, involving his family, thirteen years later. In 1857, a company of 120 immigrants set out from a small Arkansas town, toward California. In a tragic twist of fate, they never reached their destination. While encamped in southern Utah, local Mormons and Paiute Indians launched an ambush, brutally slaughtering the group, in what became known as the Mountain Meadows massacre. 125 years later, Eric would be raised as a Mormon in the same Arkansas community where this wagon train initially departed. There, he learned just how much some people still despised that faith. While training for and serving a church mission in Canada, in the mid-1990s, Eric shared a room and became acquainted with a fellow missionary named Mark Hacking. Less than a decade later, when the disappearance and murder of Hacking’s wife became highly publicized, several international media outlets approached Eric, searching for any juicy detail of the man’s troubled past. These stories are just the tip of the iceberg.

A GRIEF OBSERVED (Based on a Personal Journal) by C. S. Lewis Pdf

A Grief Observed is a collection of Lewis's reflections on the experience of bereavement following the death of his wife, Joy Davidman, in 1960. The book was first published under the pseudonym N.W. Clerk as Lewis wished to avoid identification as the author. Though republished in 1963 after his death under his own name, the text still refers to his wife as "H" (her first name, which she rarely used, was Helen). The book is compiled from the four notebooks which Lewis used to vent and explore his grief. He illustrates the everyday trials of his life without Joy and explores fundamental questions of faith and theodicy. Lewis's step-son (Joy's son) Douglas Gresham points out in his 1994 introduction that the indefinite article 'a' in the title makes it clear that Lewis's grief is not the quintessential grief experience at the loss of a loved one, but one individual's perspective among countless others. The book helped inspire a 1985 television movie Shadowlands, as well as a 1993 film of the same name. Clive Staples Lewis (1898-1963) was a British novelist, poet, academic, medievalist, lay theologian and Christian apologist. He is best known for his fictional work, especially The Screwtape Letters, The Chronicles of Narnia, and The Space Trilogy, and for his non-fiction Christian apologetics, such as Mere Christianity, Miracles, and The Problem of Pain.

House of Cards by William D. Cohan Pdf

A blistering narrative account of the negligence and greed that pushed all of Wall Street into chaos and the country into a financial crisis. At the beginning of March 2008, the monetary fabric of Bear Stearns, one of the world’s oldest and largest investment banks, began unraveling. After ten days, the bank no longer existed, its assets sold under duress to rival JPMorgan Chase. The effects would be felt nationwide, as the country suddenly found itself in the grip of the worst financial mess since the Great Depression. William Cohan exposes the corporate arrogance, power struggles, and deadly combination of greed and inattention, which led to the collapse of not only Bear Stearns but the very foundations of Wall Street.

C.S. Lewis Index by Janine Goffar Pdf

" As far as Lewis's own works are concerned, this is the most important book to be published since he died." --Walter Hooper, Literary Advisor to the Estate of C.S. Lewis " Whether one is trying for the first time to find out what my stepfather wrote about a particular topic, or whether one is having difficulty remembering the exact place of a passage read previously, the "C.S. Lewis Index will prove invaluable." --Douglas Gresham, Author of "Lenten Lands: My Childhood with Joy Davidman and C.S. Lewis " A true boon to all who would mine the motherlode of Lewis's writings. Goffar's index is a reliable and well-researched guide to real treasure." --Dr. J. Stanley Mattson, Founder and President of the C.S. Lewis Foundation " A wonderful book. It is and will be invaluable for every serious student of Lewis." --George Sayer, Author of "Jack: A Life of C.S. Lewis " Janine Goffar's "Index to Lewis's theological works is one of the most useful books that has ever appeared on Lewis." --Dr. Thomas Howard, Professor of English at St. John's College; Author of "C.S. Lewis: Man of Letters " A monumental achievement and major contribution to Lewis studies." --Christopher W. Mitchell, Director of The Marion E. Wade Center at Wheaton College " Goffar's work is a masterpiece of economy. Part of her gift to us is her talent for selecting just the right phrase, giving us just enough to let us know we've found the right quote or idea, sending us on to the original, and allowing space for more entries. This is a work much needed and long overdue." --Wayne Martindale, Associate Professor of English at Wheaton College " Whether one is hunting for a particular quotation or sampling Lewis's thoughts on a given subject, this resource may quickly become one of the most well-thumbed on the bookshelf." --"Christianity Today " A necessary aid, making all of Lewis's thought accessible categorically. I highly recommend it " --Jerry Root, Co-editor of "The Quotable Lewis " Not only a useful--indeed, a necessary--addition to our efforts to apprehend C.S. Lewis, but a noble one. I shall visit this index continually." --Dr. James Como, Editor of " CSL: The Bulletin of the New York C.S. Lewis Society" and Author of "C.S. Lewis at the Breakfast Table What began as Janine Goffar's years-long personal project in hand-written notebooks has grown to this comprehensive, much-endorsed volume for all Lewis scholars and fans. She is an active member of the Southern California C.S. Lewis Society.

What is Faith? by J. D. Myers Pdf

You might know what you believe … but do you know that you believe? While many Christians know that they are supposed to believe, they don’t know if they actually do believe. Stop wondering if you have false faith, spurious faith, temporary faith, intellectual faith, or head faith instead of heart faith. All such terms are unhelpful and unbiblical, and cause many Christians to wonder if they have truly believed. By reading this book, you will not only discover how faith works, but also how to know that you believe. This book also answers some of your most pressing questions about faith, such as the relationship between faith and works, whether or not God gives the gift of faith, and how it is possible to be certain about your faith. This book also provides explanations for several key Bible passages about faith.

Speaking for Myself by Sarah Huckabee Sanders Pdf

The Instant New York Times, Publishers Weekly, Wall Street Journal, and USA Today Bestseller A candid, riveting account of the Trump White House, on the front lines and behind the scenes. Sarah Huckabee Sanders served as White House Press Secretary for President Donald J. Trump from 2017 to 2019. A trusted confidante of the President, Sanders advised him on everything from press and communications strategy to personnel and policy. Upon her departure from the administration, President Trump described Sarah as “irreplaceable,” a “warrior” and “very special person with extraordinary talents, who has done an incredible job.” Now, in Speaking for Myself, Sarah Huckabee Sanders describes what it was like on the front lines and inside the White House, discussing her faith, the challenges of being a working mother at the highest level of American politics, her relationship with the press, and her unique role in the historic fight raging between the Trump administration and its critics for the future of our country. This frank, revealing, and engaging memoir will offer a truly unique perspective on the most important issues and events of the era, and unprecedented access to both public and behind-the-scenes conversations within the Trump White House.
