How to Stay Sane in an Insane Covid-World by Theo Compernolle Pdf

This booklet gives the answer to great many questions I received when we got in the depth of the Corona pandemic; questions from people as well as companies, about how to deal with this unusual stress-situation. Although the situation is unique, we can learn from a lot of research from many different fields about how to cope with it.My answers are based on theoretical knowledge about stress and about the human brain as well as practical experience teaching, coaching and consulting individuals and organizations on three continents. My interest in "Stress" dates from the early eighties when I did the research for my PhD on stress in high schools. Later this resulted in my bestseller: "STRESS: FRIEND AND FOE. Vital Stress Management At Work And At Home". Since then, I never stopped exploring this fascinating subject. Now, for the fourth time, I am delving deep again in the research literature to write the fourth and total revision of that best seller. I briefly interrupted my that work to write this booklet. My basic scientific knowledge about the human brain expanded a lot with the six years of research I did for my book "BRAINCHAINS: Discover Your Brain And Unleash Its Full Potential In A Hyperconnected Multitasking Word" and its concise version "How to unchain your brain". I just finished a book for teachers on this subject: "How To Unchain The Brain Of Your Pupils"In a pandemic there are lots of terrible and tragic events that are outside of your control. To stay sane in such an insane world it is important to choose your battles wisely and to concentrate on the many things you can do within your niche of control. In this booklet I summarize the core issues and give you a few solutions. Good luck and good courage! With kind regardsTheo

How to Stay Sane and Successful in the Covid World by Kathryn Mayer Pdf

Can COVID-19 be a path over or around the obstacles we've put in our own paths so we can reach our higher potential? When the pandemic took a wrecking ball to everything we think of as normal, some people refused to despair. What did they know that the rest of us didn't?COVID-19 opened a unique moment where we can find time to recalibrate, to face our fears and demons, and to change our relationship to ourselves and our careers. The rigid old rules are gone, and we need to find ways to adapt to a world that values speed more than perfection. We get to fill that void through more self-compassion and reinventing our paths to success. As a society, we humans are proving ourselves resilient and adaptable, creating new processes and rituals-from moving our professional and social lives over to Zoom to changing the way we shop to co-birthing an international movement for racial justice. But making these huge pivots can still be a struggle. An executive coach, Kathryn C. Mayer watched the cascading crises reach critical mass, and she asked, "How can I be of service to the people I'm coaching? What do people need now?" That two-part question led her to create a plan that helps others move through this challenging time and come out stronger on the other end: the four-part SANE Formula: Small Steps; Accelerate Experimentation; Nurture; Exercise Your Network. She was thrilled when her first post-COVID group began to try out the process by actively networking and moving faster and not overthinking things-taking small but firm steps to get past those fears and demons-and wrote and published her ebook to share these insights with a wider audience than she could reach in small-group training.

Spiritual COVID by Wayne Kniffen Pdf

Every church is not the Lord’s church, but the legitimate church is waking up—and miracles, signs, and wonders will appear to those who believe. God is going to take those of us who want to participate to zones where the Holy Spirit is our only comfort. The supernatural is going to become natural to those who have the audacity to believe and to those who expect it. Steeped in Scripture, this book seeks to answer questons such as: • Have we turned the church into something it wasn’t meant to be? • Should we be more interested in gathering and keeping people or in releasing and sending them out? • What is our motivation for reaching more people? The author contends that most churches are spending more time, energy, and resources on building bigger crowds. Absolutely nothing is wrong with that if your intent is to help members cultivate their faith so they can then share it with others. However, far too many churches are focused on attracting bigger crowds, building bigger buildings, and buying more land than sending people out to share their faith with a lost and dying world.

A Buddha Land in This World by Lajos Brons Pdf

In the early twentieth century, Uchiyama Gudō, Seno'o Girō, Lin Qiuwu, and others advocated a Buddhism that was radical in two respects. Firstly, they adopted a more or less naturalist stance with respect to Buddhist doctrine and related matters, rejecting karma or other supernatural beliefs. And secondly, they held political and economic views that were radically anti-hegemonic, anti-capitalist, and revolutionary. Taking the idea of such a "radical Buddhism" seriously, A Buddha Land in This World: Philosophy, Utopia, and Radical Buddhism asks whether it is possible to develop a philosophy that is simultaneously naturalist, anti-capitalist, Buddhist, and consistent. Rather than a study of radical Buddhism, then, this book is an attempt to radicalize it. The foundations of this "radicalized radical Buddhism" are provided by a realist interpretation of Yogācāra, elucidated and elaborated with some help from thinkers in the broader Tiantai/Tendai tradition and American philosophers Donald Davidson and W.V.O. Quine. A key implication of this foundation is that only this world and only this life are real, from which it follows that if Buddhism aims to alleviate suffering, it has to do so in this world and in this life. Twentieth-century radical Buddhists (as well as some engaged Buddhists) came to a similar conclusion, often expressed in their aim to realize "a Buddha land in this world." Building on this foundation, but also on Mahāyāna moral philosophy, this book argues for an ethics and social philosophy based on a definition of evil as that what is or should be expected to cause death or suffering. On that ground, capitalism should be rejected indeed, but utopianism must be treated with caution as well, which raises questions about what it means - from a radicalized radical Buddhist perspective - to aim for a Buddha land in this world. Lajos Brons is a Dutch philosopher and social scientist living in Japan. After receiving a PhD from the University of Groningen in the Netherlands for a dissertation on an aspect of the history and philosophy of the social sciences, he gradually moved further and further into philosophical territory. Currently, Lajos is teaching logic, ethics, and philosophy at a university in Tokyo. His research interests are divided over two broad areas in philosophy: one is in the overlap of (meta-)ethics and social/political philosophy; the other is in the intersection of philosophy of language, metaphysics, and epistemology. Research in the former focuses on the relations between death, suffering, and compassion. Research in the latter concerns the relations between language, thought, and reality, and is heavily influenced by the philosophies of Donald Davidson and W.V.O. Quine, and by Buddhist philosophy. This Isn't Working! by Catherine Altman Morgan Pdf

"...takes the lid off the difficult career questions we all face, and provides pointed advice for finding healthy, empowering work."-Steve Woodruff, Author, Clarity Wins The Great Resignation, the Great Reshuffling, and Quiet Quitting-clearly something is not right at work. Rates of stress, anxiety, and depression were skyrocketing before the COVID-19 pandemic. Tied to their smartphones 24/7, many people were overworking, measuring their self-worth and value by how busy they were. They compared their lives to the filtered lives of peers on social media. They worked in corporate cultures that didn't support employees, and they undervalued the importance of their own mental and physical health. During the pandemic's height in 2020, many people were forced to stay home. Some found themselves without a job at all; others had to learn to do their jobs remotely. It was during this "down time" that many people realized that busyness, overworking, overconsumption, avoidance, and numbing weren't helping. In fact, the whole approach was batshit crazy. In This Isn't Working! Evolving the Way We Work to Decrease Stress, Anxiety, and Depression, career transition expert Catherine Altman Morgan explains why we shouldn't be striving to get back to "normal," because normal wasn't all that great. Instead, we need to EVOLVE. Through her company, Point A to Point B Transitions Inc., Catherine has worked with many clients who suffer with physical and mental health issues caused by work-related stress. In this book she offers techniques and strategies to rethink how we live and work and start feeling better almost immediately. "I need this book. You might too! If you've felt a bit dented, here's the fix!" -Chris Brogan, Chief of Staff, Appfire.com

His Hands, His Feet, and His Voice by Dr. Ted A. Duck Pdf

Pine Drive Baptist Church had been devastated by Hurricane Harvey in August 2017. Then after the recovery from Harvey, the COVID-19 pandemic had a devastating effect on the nation and particularly on the churches in America. These daily messages of His Hands, His Feet, and His Voice are intended to bring encouragement, hope, and strength from God’s inerrant Word to those who desperately need His touch. These messages are also intended to encourage you to give to the Lord your hands, feet, and voice as His instrument in response to the many crying out to Him in fear, uncertainty, and need for wisdom. It is my heartfelt prayer that God will inspire you to trust in Him with all your heart, no matter what you see in the world around you or even how you may feel at any given time. God’s Word is filled with thousands of promises, some of which pertain to whatever crisis or situation you may encounter. In America and our culture today, these hands, feet, and voice messages will help you to stand strong, even for one more day, and then pass them along to those who need the reminder: God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore, we will not fear though the earth gives way, though the mountains be moved into the heart of the sea, though it waters roar and foam, though the mountains tremble at its swelling. (Ps. 46:1–3 ESV)

Gone Viral by Justin Hart Pdf

Data and marketing consultant and statistical sage to presidential candidates, governors, businesses, and the real powers-that-be, epidemiologists, Justin Hart catalogs in a terrifying-but-sprightly manner the folly and psychosis produced by the pandemic and diagnoses the societal destruction that the massive overresponse to the COVID virus has wreaked, as well as what can be done to stop the madness and bring the world back to a modicum of rationality. WORST. DISEASE. EVER. Someone broke America. In this nightmare, neighbors have turned into agoraphobes, teachers fear their students, children are muzzled, citizens are censored, dystopian fictions have become reality, and unelected officials are creating a biometric police state. Oh wait. It’s not a nightmare. It’s our daily lives! In truth, much of this insanity didn’t start with the coronavirus pandemic (it was already latent in big government and big corporations) and it won’t end there. COVID-19’s greatest threat turned out to be . . . mental. All we had to fear was fear itself—and boy did some of us fear! The very idea of the virus weakened the immune system of America and revealed a decaying underbelly of confusion, panic, unease, and cowardice few of the strong ones suspected existed. What a horrible wake-up call! In a spate of anxious dread and gleeful power-grabbing, our health overlords threw away the pandemic response handbook and tried—beyond all reason—to protect, well, everyone. From massive over-testing to universal retail plexiglass to stay-at-home orders to stay-away-from-school orders to masking mandates to vaccine mandates to some of the worst restrictions on civil liberties in American history, this is an epic story that poses big questions about America’s future as a free society. And the odd thing is, as Justin Hart shows, the actual disease was, as pandemics go, not that threatening; most people were at minimal risk. What is really scary is the total overreaction of half the country, many governments, that lost all sense of perspective. Hart offers a hopeful prescription on how we might face the madness down and claw our way back to sanity!

Crazy Busy by Thijs Launspach Pdf

Abolish stress. Rediscover joy. Replenish your energy. In Crazy Busy acclaimed psychologist Thijs Launspach examines why we often work ourselves to the bone and what we can do to prevent this. He explains how to cope with stress and create more peace and calm in your life. He draws on the latest scientific knowledge, the methods used by experts and the stories told by those who have learned the hard way what stress can do to both body and mind. All to provide you with the answer to the question: how can you free yourself from a life of stress? A full diary and no time to think; the feeling that you are always playing catch-up and never quite hitting the mark: our lives today are almost invariably crazy busy. Being busy is one of the hallmarks of the modern era. But the pressure is taking its toll on us. The number of burnouts has risen dramatically over the past ten years. In fact, it has now reached epidemic proportions: approximately one in seven of all workers suffers badly from stress or has been forced to take a break from work because of stress-related complaints. And even if you don’t reach the actual burnout stage, stress can still make your life a lot less enjoyable. Why are our lives so hectic? Have we all become workaholics? Why are we so susceptible to FOMO (the Fear Of Missing Out)? And most importantly, what can you do to cope with the stress in your life and prevent a burnout? Do you find yourself rushing to get things finished more than once a week? Do others often offer you well-intentioned advice on ‘how to slow things down a little’. Do you ever suspect that the stress you feel prevents you from being as happy as you would like to be? Are you more addicted to your smartphone than you would care to admit? Is it the first thing you reach for when you wake up in the morning? Do you often find yourself longing to stop and take a break from it all? If your answer to one or more of these questions is ‘Yes’, then this is the book for you.

The COVID-19 Catastrophe by Richard Horton Pdf

This expanded, updated, and completely revised edition of The COVID-19 Catastrophe is the authoritative guide to a global health crisis that has consumed the world. Richard Horton, editor of the medical journal The Lancet, scrutinises the actions taken by governments as they sought to contain the novel coronavirus. He shows that indecision and disregard for scientific evidence has led many political leaders to preside over hundreds of thousands of needless deaths and the worst global economic crisis for three centuries. This new edition provides a systematic discussion of the pandemic’s course, national responses, more transmissible mutant variants of the virus, and the launch of the world’s largest ever vaccination programme. Only now are we beginning to understand the full scale of the COVID-19 crisis. We need to learn the lessons of this pandemic, and we need to learn them fast, because the next pandemic may arrive sooner than we think.

From the bestselling author of Rich and Pretty comes a suspenseful and provocative novel keenly attuned to the complexities of parenthood, race, and class. Leave the World Behind explores how our closest bonds are reshaped—and unexpected new ones are forged—in moments of crisis. Amanda and Clay head out to a remote corner of Long Island expecting a vacation: a quiet reprieve from life in New York City, quality time with their teenage son and daughter, and a taste of the good life in the luxurious home they’ve rented for the week. But a late-night knock on the door breaks the spell. Ruth and G. H. are an older couple—it’s their house, and they’ve arrived in a panic. They bring the news that a sudden blackout has swept the city. But in this rural area—with the TV and internet now down, and no cell phone service—it’s hard to know what to believe. Should Amanda and Clay trust this couple—and vice versa? What happened back in New York? Is the vacation home, isolated from civilization, a truly safe place for their families? And are they safe from one other?
