I'm Dreaming of a Brown Christmas by Steven T. Gray,Vernon Gibbs Pdf

A brand new book from Cuzzos Media, "I'm Dreaming of a Brown Christmas" is a full-color 36 page picture book and poem inspired by the classic song "White Christmas", but as imagined through the eyes of a young African-American child living in the city. The words and images celebrate many of the wonderful brown things we all enjoy at Christmastime like fresh-baked cookies, warm cups of hot chocolate and a golden brown turkey hot from the oven. But most importantly, "I'm Dreaming of a Brown Christmas" celebrates the many shades of brown we see on the faces of family and friends. We hope reading this book can be a new part of your holiday traditions for many years to come.

More Rhyme and Reason by Russ Leger Pdf

Writing rhymes began in 1945, my senior year at Nebraska University. The students were preparing a stage production to celebrate the end of World War II. I was asked to write a song and sing it. I did it and my joy in writing rhymes began. I dont think I ever sat down just for the purpose of writing a rhyme. There was always a motive like birthdays or special events. The cover of my first book and this one really sums it up-People, Places, Passion, Purpose. It wasnt very long that I learned my rhymes were best when inspired by God. The readers and time tell the most about a book. A priest that I know called to tell me that he read The Parish Shepherd, the first thing each morning. A second priest said he used the poem TWO PLANS when he spoke to a group of ladies. In this book More Rhyme and Reason, the poems came from the same kind of inspirations. One of the best I have written is first in this book, The Politician. Some poems are happy rhymes, for birthdays or anniversaries. Some are of places traveled. I like to write rhymes that teach and hopefully there will be fulfillment. If a poet inspired me in my student days it was Longfellow. I have always strived to achieve a message with perfect rhyme and meter. If any reader of my writing is entertained and gratified, I have achieved my goal. Enjoy!

Nourishing Narratives by Jennifer L. Holberg Pdf

Humans are story-shaped creatures. We make sense of our world, pattern our lives, and reflect on what is ultimately significant through language and the words that compose our stories. But how does this relate to the narrative of the Bible and the story that God is writing through history? In Nourishing Narratives, writer and professor Jennifer Holberg engages with words from the likes of Dante, Gerard Manley Hopkins, Flannery O'Connor, Marilynne Robinson, and more while also offering some of her own stories to reflect on the importance of story to our lives and our faith. Here, readers are encouraged not only to understand how stories nourish our faith, but to discover how our stories are part of God's great story.

Parish by Matt Brown Pdf

There are unexpected, beatific moments when Rev. Elijah Lovejoy Parish is swept up by the divine intrusion into the ordinary. Yet, he knows he cannot tarry there, for his calling also compels him to resume his shift as the traffic cop down at the intersection of Pathological and Whine. Told from the perspective of a deceased brother, freed from life's bondage to autism, Parish introduces you to the family of a young pastor and invites you to laugh and cry through the seasons of a year laced with everything from a redneck funeral that becomes a DEA sting operation to a grandfather's honorable relinquishing of his mind to senescence to an act of violence that impales the community and challenges easy Easter answers. Dismayed by rock-star-skinny-jeaned preachers preening and self-righteous demagogues decreeing, Elijah Parish balks when strangers ask him what he does for a living. Yet, he keeps at it. Why? Grace: undeserved and unsurpassed, ineffable and irrepressible. Living with the sinners and saints of St. Martin Presbyterian Church in the North Carolina foothills community of Edinburgh, Elijah and his family keep stumbling into grace as the seasons pass and as chaos dances with mercy.
