Intellect, Reason and Belief by Yusuf Abdul-Alim Pdf

This book is a thought provoking challenge for the Believer of their accepted faith. The mass majority of the world believes in a higher being but that Being is viewed and worshiped in various different ways. The author delves into an intelligent discussion regarding one question. That question is "Why do we believe in the faith that we follow?" What influence made us followers of Christianity, Judaism or Islam? Focusing on the three Major Abrahamic Religions, he pushes the reader to reason, critically think and question their belief system. Is Jesus Christ God or the son of God? Is he believed to be the false Messiah like those who follow Judaism? Did He die for our sins like the Christians believe, and is the Prophet Muhammad the last and final Prophet like the belief of the Muslims; or is he the anti-christ like the world of Christianity depicts him to be? The once Christian, then agnostic and now Muslim convert, takes us through his journey of comparative religion and final acceptance of Islam.

The God Conclusion by I. W. Brown Pdf

It is an all too familiar path. A young person leaves home for college. He still believes in God and likely believes in the particular faith of his family. Then the deconversion begins. By the time he earns an undergraduate degree not only has he discarded the faith of his family, he has abandoned belief in God altogether. In fact, he looks back at his family and those who continue to believe in wonder. How can they still believe? It is a fact that the more education a person receives the more likely she is to become an atheist. A recent study also found that average intelligence is an excellent predictor of rates of atheism. That is, the higher the intelligence, the higher the rate of non-belief.It is natural to assume that intelligence and education give us a firmer grip on truth. Doesn't it make sense then that the individual who replaces faith with skepticism and disbelief is headed in the right direction? Shouldn't we conclude that this person is drawing closer to truth?Absolutely not!Having abandoned faith himself by the end of graduate school, author IW Brown then spent years examining the very best arguments for and against God's existence. In The God Conclusion: Why Smart People Still Believe, Brown makes a powerful case that the most educated and intellectual among us are often the furthest from the truth about God. They most certainly don't enjoy any advantage over the less educated when striving to understand existence and the transcendent. Vocal advocates of atheism regularly boast that the brainiest among us are non-believers. Contrary to what they would suggest, however, there is no reason to defer to the experts in science, philosophy, or academia when it comes to the God Question. The God Conclusion dispels the notion that intelligence and learning should lead to disbelief. It describes how and why rational, well-informed people still have reason to believe in God. If you or someone you know struggles to maintain faith in God in the face of the wisdom of the world, The God Conclusion is for you!

God and Intelligence in Modern Philosophy by Fulton John Sheen Pdf

Indicts modern philosophy for having lost faith in man's intellect, and therefore for having abandoned hope of attaining any knowledge of God by rational means. Traces the decline of philosophy from the serene height of the high Middle Ages to its present muddle, contrasting the balanced realism of St. Thomas Aquinas with modern philosophy's distrust of reason and showing how this affects man's idea of God. Thomism stoutly affirms the validity of human knowledge and proves -- by reason alone, not by revelation -- the existence of God and many of his attributes. But modern thought, in its headlong flight from reason, denies the possibility of man attaining rational knowledge. It thus leaves man two alternatives, neither adequate for questing minds: agnosticism, or a religious belief based on emotional need or blind faith.

HHAI 2023: Augmenting Human Intellect by P. Lukowicz,S. Mayer,J. Koch Pdf

Artificial intelligence (AI) has been much in the news recently, with some commentators expressing concern that AI might eventually replace humans. But many developments in AI are designed to enhance and supplement the performance of humans rather than replace them, and a novel field of study, with new approaches and solutions to the development of AI, has arisen to focus on this aspect of the technology. This book presents the proceedings of HHAI2023, the 2nd International Conference on Hybrid Human-Artificial Intelligence, held from 26-30 June 2023, in Munich, Germany. The HHAI international conference series is focused on the study of artificially intelligent systems that cooperate synergistically, proactively, responsibly and purposefully with humans, amplifying rather than replacing human intelligence, and invites contributions from various fields, including AI, human-computer interaction, the cognitive and social sciences, computer science, philosophy, among others. A total of 78 submissions were received for the main conference track, and most papers were reviewed by at least three reviewers. The overall final acceptance rate was 43%, with 14 contributions accepted as full papers, 14 as working papers, and 6 as extended abstracts. The papers presented here cover topics including interactive hybrid agents; hybrid intelligence for decision support; hybrid intelligence for health; and values such as fairness and trust in hybrid intelligence. We further accepted 17 posters and 4 demos as well as 8 students to the first HHAI doctoral consortium this year. The authors of 4 working papers and 2 doctoral consortium submissions opted for not publishing their submissions to allow a later full submission, resulting in a total of 57 papers included in this proceedings Addressing all aspects of AI systems that assist humans and emphasizing the need for adaptive, collaborative, responsible, interactive, and human-centered artificial intelligence systems which can leverage human strengths and compensate for human weaknesses while considering social, ethical, and legal considerations, the book will be of interest to all those working in the field.
