Natural Language Processing and Information Systems by Andrés Montoyo,Rafael Munoz,Elisabeth Métais Pdf

NLDB 2005, the 10th International Conference on Applications of Natural L- guage to Information Systems, was held on June 15–17, 2005 at the University of Alicante, Spain. Since the ?rst NLDB conference in 1995 the main goal has been to provide a forum to discuss and disseminate research on the integration of natural language resources in information system engineering. The development and convergence of computing, telecommunications and information systems has already led to a revolution in the way that we work, communicate with each other, buy goods and use services, and even in the way that weentertainandeducate ourselves. The revolutioncontinues, andoneof its results is that large volumes of information will increasingly be held in a form which is more natural for users than the data presentation formats typical of computer systems of the past. Natural language processing (NLP) is crucial in solving these problems, and language technologies will make an indispensable contribution to the success of information systems. We hope that NLDB 2005 was a modest contribution to this goal. NLDB 2005 contributed to advancing the goals and the high international standing of these conferences, largely due to its Program Committee, composed of renowned researchers in the ?eld of natural language processing and inf- mation system engineering. Papers were reviewed by three reviewers from the Program Committee. This clearly contributed to the signi?cant number of - pers submitted(95).Twenty-ninewereacceptedasregularpapers,while18were accepted as short papers.

Requirements Engineering: Foundation for Software Quality by Roel Wieringa,Anne Persson Pdf

This volume compiles the papers accepted for presentation at the 16thWorking C- ference on Requirements Engineering: Foundation for Software Quality (REFSQ 2010), held in Essen during June 30 and July 1-2, 2010. Since 1994, when the first REFSQ took place, requirements engineering (RE) has never ceased to be a dominant factor influencing the quality of software, systems and services. Initially started as a workshop, the REFSQ working conference series has now established itself as one of the leading international forums to discuss RE in its (many) relations to quality. It seeks reports of novel ideas and techniques that enhance the quality of RE products and processes, as well as reflections on current research and industrial RE practices. One of the most appreciated characteristics of REFSQ is that of being a highly interactive and structured event. REFSQ 2010 was no exception to this tradition. In all, we received a healthy 57 submissions. After all submissions had been ca- fully assessed by three independent reviewers and went through electronic disc- sions, the Program Committee met and finally selected 15 top-quality full papers (13 research papers and 2 experience reports) and 7 short papers, resulting in an acc- tance rate of 38 %. The work presented at REFSQ 2009 continues to have a strong anchoring in pr- tice with empirical investigations spanning over a wide range of application domains.

Distributed System Design by Jie Wu Pdf

Future requirements for computing speed, system reliability, and cost-effectiveness entail the development of alternative computers to replace the traditional von Neumann organization. As computing networks come into being, one of the latest dreams is now possible - distributed computing. Distributed computing brings transparent access to as much computer power and data as the user needs for accomplishing any given task - simultaneously achieving high performance and reliability. The subject of distributed computing is diverse, and many researchers are investigating various issues concerning the structure of hardware and the design of distributed software. Distributed System Design defines a distributed system as one that looks to its users like an ordinary system, but runs on a set of autonomous processing elements (PEs) where each PE has a separate physical memory space and the message transmission delay is not negligible. With close cooperation among these PEs, the system supports an arbitrary number of processes and dynamic extensions. Distributed System Design outlines the main motivations for building a distributed system, including: inherently distributed applications performance/cost resource sharing flexibility and extendibility availability and fault tolerance scalability Presenting basic concepts, problems, and possible solutions, this reference serves graduate students in distributed system design as well as computer professionals analyzing and designing distributed/open/parallel systems. Chapters discuss: the scope of distributed computing systems general distributed programming languages and a CSP-like distributed control description language (DCDL) expressing parallelism, interprocess communication and synchronization, and fault-tolerant design two approaches describing a distributed system: the time-space view and the interleaving view mutual exclusion and related issues, including election, bidding, and self-stabilization prevention and detection of deadlock reliability, safety, and security as well as various methods of handling node, communication, Byzantine, and software faults efficient interprocessor communication mechanisms as well as these mechanisms without specific constraints, such as adaptiveness, deadlock-freedom, and fault-tolerance virtual channels and virtual networks load distribution problems synchronization of access to shared data while supporting a high degree of concurrency

Integrity and Internal Control in Information Systems by Sushil Jajodia,William List,Graeme W. McGregor,Leon A.M. Strous Pdf

Integrity and Internal Control in Information Systems is a state-of-the-art book that establishes the basis for an ongoing dialogue between the IT security specialists and the internal control specialists so that both may work more effectively together to assist in creating effective business systems in the future. Building on the issues presented in the preceding volume of this series, this book seeks further answers to the following questions: What precisely do business managers need in order to have confidence in the integrity of their information systems and their data? What is the status quo of research and development in this area? Where are the gaps between business needs on the one hand and research/development on the other; what needs to be done to bridge these gaps? Integrity and Internal Control in Information Systems contains the selected proceedings of the Second Working Conference on Integrity and Internal Control in Information Systems, sponsored by the International Federation for Information Processing (IFIP) and held in Warrenton, Virginia, USA, in November 1998. It will be essential reading for academics and practitioners in computer science, information technology, business informatics, accountancy and edp-auditing.
