Investigation of the Corrosion Aspects of Selected Aluminum Alloys by Karlis Riskevics Pdf

A literature survey and experimental results from investigations of aluminum corrosion under both static and dynamic test conditions are presented. Static corrosion tests were made on 8001, 8001 + 2.5% Mg and X2219 clad with M400 aluminum alloys. Dynamic corrosion tests were made only on the 8001 alloy. These tests were performed in three identical dynamic corrosion test loops. Initial tests in each loop were made to investigate corrosion behavior in high purity water at high temperatures and high flow velocities. Reproducibility tests were also carried out. An evaluation was made of aluminum-surface-area-to- watervolume-ratio effects on corrosion resistance. Prefilmed sample tests in which test specimens were prefilmed at two different temperatures in a static autoclave prior to the dynamic tests were also made. Results indicated that the corrosion rates of the 8001 aluminum alloy were too high for an economical design of the reactor core. A considerable amount of uncertainty was found to exist in the corrosion literature, as well as in the experimental data, regarding effects of various test parameters on corrosion behavior of this alloy. Time limitations for application to the Pathfinder reactor prohibited further investigation of this material. Consequently, a recommendation of the 8001 aluminum alloy as the boiling water reactor core cladding material, operating at Pathfinder conditions, could not be made.

Corrosion of Aluminium by Christian Vargel Pdf

Corrosion of Aluminium highlights the practical and general aspects of the corrosion of aluminium alloys with many illustrations and references. In addition to that, the first chapter allows the reader who is not very familiar with aluminium to understand the metallurgical, chemical and physical features of the aluminium alloys. The author Christian Vargel, has adopted a practitioner approach, based on the expertise and experience gained from a 40 year career in aluminium corrosion This approach is most suitable for assessing the corrosion resistance of aluminium- an assessment which is one of the main conditions for the development of many uses of aluminium in transport, construction, power transmission etc. 600 bibliographic references provide a comprehensive guide to over 100 years of related study Providing practical applications to the reader across many industries Accessible to both the beginner and the expert

Aluminium Alloys by Jürgen Hirsch,Birgit Skrotzki,Günter Gottstein Pdf

Aluminium is a well established modern lightweight engineering and functional material with a unique combination of specific properties like strengh, formability, durability, conductivity, corrosion resistance, etc. It is present in many intelligent solutions in established markets like building, transport, packaging, printing, and many others, in our fast moving modern society. The various aluminium alloys can be processed quite efficiently in large quantities by conventional fabrication routes, as well as in special sophisticated forms and material combinations for highly innovative high–tec solutions and applications. This book contains latest information about all these aspects in form of the refereed papers of the II th International Conference on Aluminium Alloys "ICAA", where world–wide experts from academia and engineers from industry present latest results and new ideas in fundamental as well as applied research. Since 22 years the ICAA series provides scientists and engineers with a complete overview over the latest scientific and technological developments, featuring profound technology–based overviews and new innovative perspectives. This book is a reference for the scientific community as well as for the aluminium industry working on aluminium alloy development, processing and application issues. It gives a global perspective on the current focus of international research with emphasis on in–depth understanding of specific properties and applications of conventional and advanced aluminium alloys.

Corrosion Resistance of Aluminum and Magnesium Alloys by Edward Ghali Pdf

Valuable information on corrosion fundamentals and applications of aluminum and magnesium Aluminum and magnesium alloys are receiving increased attention due to their light weight, abundance, and resistance to corrosion. In particular, when used in automobile manufacturing, these alloys promise reduced car weights, lower fuel consumption, and resulting environmental benefits. Meeting the need for a single source on this subject, Corrosion Resistance of Aluminum and Magnesium Alloys gives scientists, engineers, and students a one-stop reference for understanding both the corrosion fundamentals and applications relevant to these important light metals. Written by a world leader in the field, the text considers corrosion phenomena for the two metals in a systematic and parallel fashion. The coverage includes: The essentials of corrosion for aqueous, high temperature corrosion, and active-passive behavior of aluminum and magnesium alloys The performance and corrosion forms of aluminum alloys The performance and corrosion forms of magnesium alloys Corrosion prevention methods such as coatings for aluminum and magnesium Electrochemical methods of corrosion investigation and their application to aluminum and magnesium alloys Offering case studies and detailed references, Corrosion Resistance of Aluminum and Magnesium Alloys provides an essential, up-to-date resource for graduate-level study, as well as a working reference for professionals using aluminum, magnesium, and their alloys.
