The 4 Stages of Psychological Safety by Timothy R. Clark Pdf

This book is the first practical, hands-on guide that shows how leaders can build psychological safety in their organizations, creating an environment where employees feel included, fully engaged, and encouraged to contribute their best efforts and ideas. Perhaps the leader's most challenging task is to increase intellectual friction while decreasing social friction. When this doesn't happen and it becomes emotionally expensive to say what you truly think and feel, that lack of psychological safety triggers the self-censoring instinct, shuts down learning, and blocks collaboration and creativity. Timothy R. Clark, a former CEO, Oxford-trained social scientist, and organizational consultant, provides a research-based framework to help leaders transform their organizations into sanctuaries of inclusion and incubators of innovation. When leaders cultivate psychological safety, teams and organizations progress through four successive stages. First, people feel included and accepted; then they feel safe to learn, contribute, and finally, challenge the status quo. Clark draws deeply on psychology, philosophy, social science, literature, and his own experiences to show how leaders can, and must, set the tone and model the ideal behaviors—as he says, “you either show the way or get in the way.” This thoughtful and pragmatic guide demonstrates that if you banish fear, install true performance-based accountability, and create a nurturing environment that allows people to be vulnerable as they learn and grow, they will perform beyond your expectations.

The IT Factor by John Morrison Pdf

Have you ever wondered why some school leaders are far more successful than others? How is it that when faced with a relatively common set of challenges, some school leaders are able to not only meet the administrative demands of the system but also transform their school in ways that enrich the lives of staff and students? What is IT these extraordinarily successful leaders draw upon to drive the transformation? My purpose in writing this book is to provide readers with insights that will enable them to discover their own IT (Inspirational Transformational) Factor, unleash their full leadership potential and transform their school beyond expectations. I have interviewed nationally recognized school leaders from across Canada, representing much of the diversity of our country. They are from communities that span our country, literally from coast to coast to coast. They recognized the difficulties facing students who were academically, socially and/or economically challenged. Situations dealing with the impact of colonization on students in Nunavut, systemic racism in Nova Scotia, challenges of new immigrant students in Ontario and the marginalization of academically poor students in British Columbia are just a few examples of issues that are detailed and examined in this book. I questioned each leader extensively about their life experiences and how they had drawn from this bank of experiences to discover their own unique IT Factor. Additional questions then probed more deeply into the attributes that were necessary in order to fully unleash their IT Factor. These stories provide valuable insights into how they thought, reasoned, and made decisions that guided their students, staff, other stakeholders, and school community to new heights. Examples are provided that demonstrate how they thought differently about issues and how each leader was guided by their own past life experiences. Each leader was unique in their IT Factor, however common to all was a grouping of core attributes that enabled each of them to unleash their IT Factor. These stories are further supported by insights into exceptional leaders in business, science, sport and the arts, and research conducted by leading academics. Through the unleashing of their IT Factor these outstanding leaders were able to bring hope, opportunity, and a renewed sense of purpose to the students, staff, and communities they served. This book:- transcends conventional leadership theory, - challenges and guides the reader to examine their own core beliefs,- focuses on practical approaches to growing one's own leadership capacity through the examination of real-life leadership success stories, - addresses many of the challenges faced by leaders in schools and organizations, while also providing practical solutions, and,-challenges and inspires the reader to examine their own situation, apply what they are learning, and grow their leadership capacity and success. Prepare to discover your own unique IT Factor, grow your leadership capacity, and bring about meaningful change for your students, staff and school community. "The IT Factor by John Morrison delves into what exactly makes a great school leader and how you can grow your leadership potential. Through engaging stories of highly successful leaders, he takes you on a practical, hands on journey, highlighting the qualities that empower people to become inspiring leaders who take their staff on a journey of school and community transformation by developing a successful, child focused school. He talks about the qualities needed by a successful school leader in order to successfully navigate the journey from good to great. This easy-to-read book is something that every school leader will take something from and help them to become more successful in their role each day." -Terry MacIsaac President Canadian Association of Principals

The Grit Factor by Shannon Huffman Polson Pdf

What does it take for women to succeed in a male-dominated world? The Grit Factor. At age nineteen, Shannon Huffman Polson became the youngest woman ever to climb Denali, the highest mountain in North America. She went on to reach the summits of Mt. Rainier and Mt. Kilimanjaro and spent more than a decade traveling the world. Yet it was during her experience serving as one of the Army's first female attack helicopter pilots, and eventually leading an Apache flight platoon on deployment to Bosnia-Herzegovina, that she learned the lessons of leadership that forever changed her life. Where did these insights come from? From her own crucibles of experience—and from other women. In writing The Grit Factor, Polson made it her mission to connect with an elite pack of tough, impressive female iconoclasts who shared with her their candid stories of combat and career. This slate of decorated leaders includes Heather Penney, one of the first female F-16 pilots, who was put on a suicide mission for 9/11; General Ann Dunwoody, the first female four-star general in the Army; Amy McGrath, the first female Marine to fly the F/A-18 in combat and a 2020 candidate for the US Senate—and dozens of other unstoppable women who got there first, including Polson herself. These women led at the highest levels in the most complicated, challenging, and male-dominated organization in the world. Now, in the post–#MeToo era, when positive role models of women leading are needed as never before, Polson brings these voices together, sharing her own life lessons and theirs with storytelling flair, keen insight, and incisive analysis of current research. With its gripping narrative and relatable takeaways, The Grit Factor is both inspiring and pragmatic, a book that will energize and enlighten current and aspiring leaders everywhere—whether male or female.

The Relationship Factor in Safety Leadership by Rosa Antonia Carrillo Pdf

At the core of The Relationship Factor in Safety Leadership are eight beliefs about human nature that are common to leaders who successfully communicate that safety is important while meeting business results. Using stories and business language the book explains how to create and recover important stakeholder relationships by setting priorities and taking action based on these beliefs. The beliefs are based on the author’s 25 years of experience supporting operational and safety leaders with successful and unsuccessful change efforts in pharmaceutical, nuclear, mining, manufacturing and power generation. The author also offers compelling evidence from many social and scientific disciplines that support the conclusion that satisfying our need for relationship is a major motivator. The Five Orientations Model offers a perspective on solving complex problems when confronted with multiple demands. The book provides managers and supervisors with the motivation to build relationships and points to the conditions needed for success. It also describes a process to take united action but retain the flexibility to change course as necessary. The book is written for managers and leaders, at all levels, concerned with occupational health and safety, and wishing to learn how to leverage relationships to achieve higher employee engagement and performance.

The Fred Factor by Mark Sanborn Pdf

NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • The true story of a seemingly ordinary mail carrier whose approach to work and life has the power to transform the everyday into the extraordinary “This beloved business classic has inspired millions of people over the years, and today Mark Sanborn’s transformative insights are more timely and necessary than ever.”—Jon Gordon, author of The Energy Bus and co-author of The Coffee Bean Meet Fred. In this small yet powerful book, Mark Sanborn, member of the Speaker Hall of Fame, recounts the story of a USPS carrier who introduced himself one day shortly after Sanborn had moved to a new home in Denver. Fred, however, was no average mailman. As Sanborn came to discover, Fred was the kind of worker who exemplifies everything “right” with customer service. Did people want packages left on the porch or prefer a notice to pick them up at the post office? Fred made sure he knew the answer. When another delivery service left a package at the wrong house, Fred shepherded it safely to the intended recipient. Others might have seen delivering mail as less-than-glamorous work, but Fred seized the chance to find meaning in the mundane, competing with himself every day to find opportunities to make his customers smile. We’ve all encountered people like Fred. In this deeply inspiring book, Sanborn illuminates the four basic principles anyone can use to bring fresh energy and creativity to our work and life: how to make a tangible difference every day, build stronger relationships, create real value for others without spending a penny, and constantly reinvent yourself.

How do you get someone else committed to reaching their fullest potential? It’s a question that challenges new managers and seasoned executives alike, echoes through coaches’ heads as they watch a gifted athlete underachieve, and keeps parents up at night. Igniting the Third Factor, Peter synthesizes his life’s work into the five core practices exceptional leaders use to ignite the Third Factor in themselves and others – whether it’s in the locker room before a gold medal Olympic hockey game or at a routine performance review. Peter works through an easy-to-understand model, providing a clear view of what separates ’igniters’ from ’extinguishers’ and exploring a wealth of strategies you can put to use immediately in your world. Igniting the Third Factor is a fast-paced journey packed with familiar faces, engaging stories, and humor. As he moves from the dressing room to the corner office and back again, Peter weaves insights from well-known Canadian, American, and British coaches and executives with his personal experience to provide a practical guide to helping others excel – all set against the backdrop of an exciting 30 years of involvement in the Canadian Olympic Movement.
