Italian Glass, Murano, Milan, 1930-1970 by Helmut Ricke,Eva Schmitt Pdf

"Two introductory essays trace the development of Italian art glass within the context of European glassmaking as a whole and examine the intimate world of glass manufacturing on Murano, with its unique combination of tradition and innovation. The superb color plates reproduce work by all the major designers and manufacturers. Italian art glass is not synonymous with Murano, however, and a notable feature of the book is the marvelous work produced in Milan by Erwin Burger and the firm Fontana Arte."--BOOK JACKET.Title Summary field provided by Blackwell North America, Inc. Fratelli Toso by Leslie Piña Pdf

Of all the leading Muranese glass factories, Fratelli Toso was among the most versatile and productive, but the least well-known. Where Venini, Barovier & Toso, Aureliano Toso, Archimede Seguso, Salviati, Cenedese, Barbini, and others designed, produced, and marketed fabulous glass, Fratelli Toso focused on design and production. The first company responsible for the revival of Venetian glass, in 1854, Fratelli Toso went on to be one of the major contributors of modern glass design, especially in the 1950s. Designers like Ermanno Toso and Pollio Perelda were rewarded for their accomplishments at Venice Biennali and other international exhibitions. This is the first book devoted to the extraordinary glass produced by Fratelli Toso. With over 400 color photographs of 19th and early 20th century murrine glass, 20th century factory production, and unique art glass; history of the company, chronology, detailed captions, bibliography, index, and value guide this book will be indispensable to the collector, dealer, and researcher.

Fulvio Bianconi at Venini by Marino Barovier,Carla Sonego Pdf

Fulvio Bianconi (Padua, 1915 - Milan, 1996), from the interwar period onwards, was associated with the glassworks of Paolo Venini with which he established a significant working relationship leading to the creation of an extraordinary series of highly coloured Murano glass pieces that encapsulate the enthusiasm of the decade and characterise the taste of the period. This volume revisits this exciting experience of Bianconi's and illustrates the entire production created for the celebrated Murano furnace. This consists of some five hundred models, including vases and bowls with original forms and exuberant but refined polychrome glass weaves (pezzati, scozzesi, a fasce) (patchwork, Scots, with bands etc.). As well as these, there are amusing animals but also a great number (c. 180) of very lively and ironic glass figurines, often freely inspired by characters of the Commedia dell'arte (Italian popular theatre), such as Arlecchino (Harlequin) and Pulcinella, and others by regional or period costumes etc., testimony to the extraordinary creativity of a versatile and prolific artist.
