A Far Better Life by James G. Friesen Pdf

The Sermon on the Mount is not supposed to read like a collection of standards that we should be striving to achieve. Listen to the Master's voice. It is not saying, "You should do better!" It is saying, "Let me help you do better." Soft and welcoming, yet compelling, Jesus invites us to make Him our guide. The Sermon on the Mount is where we learn to take our first steps. A Far Better Life opens up The Sermon on the Mount with such clarity that readers can almost hear Jesus delivering it. Staying with everyday language and common sense concepts, Dr. Friesen connects Jesus' central ideas, point by point, with Christian counseling. This is one of those books that will be around for a long time, because it is both an introduction to Christian counseling and a troubleshooting volume for counselors and their clients. Here is Jesus' message: The Father eagerly wants to join you in your living space to provide healing for the wounds that keep you from living a far better life. Jesus' intent is for you to invite the Father into every area of your life, especially into the most difficult moments. He will transform them and that will entirely change the way you live.

A Peaceable Psychology by Alvin Dueck,Kevin Reimer Pdf

In the past century psychology has been practiced in the manner of medical science, working from the assumption that therapy can transcend particular traditions. Seeking to move the conversation forward, Alvin Dueck and Kevin Reimer argue for a theologically, culturally, and politically sensitive psychotherapy whereby the Christian psychologist treats the patient according to the particulars of the patient's political situation and ethnic and religious tradition, while acknowledging the role of his or her own Christian story in therapeutic dialogue. A Peaceable Psychology encourages mental health practitioners to mine their own traditions for gifts of healing and to allow clients to bring their native ethnic or religious voice into therapy. The authors point to the life of Jesus as the foundation on which to build a therapeutic ethic, appropriating the story of his life to bring healing. This integrative work considers philosophy, ethics, theology, and cognitive science in making an argument on behalf of and for the psychological community. It will benefit psychology professors and students, Christian psychologists and psychotherapists, mental health workers, pastors, and theologians.

From Glory to Glory: The Psychodynamics of Salvation in Christ by H. Owen Ward PhD Pdf

Christianity is one of the most popular subjects of debate in the world today. In this book, Dr. Ward directs the debate to the Bible itself. He contends that the core of the biblical revelation of Christ has been overlooked, ignored and even dismissed throughout thousands of years of Church history. He challenges us to look deeper into the Scripture and discover what it means that Jesus is Christ. As many precious gifts come in a small package, Christ is identified in the Bible with one small, five letter word used in its metaphysical context only four times in only one chapter of the New Testament. In the beginning was the Logos and the Logos was with God and the Logos was God…and the Logos became flesh and dwelt among us (Jn. 1:1, 14). As Dr. Ward demonstrates, once we have a grasp of the meaning of this single Word, it acts like a secret code unlocking the vision of the Big Picture, Grand Design God intended when he inspired John to write his Gospel. Unfortunately, few Christians today know anything about the Great Conversation of philosophical thought that John adopted at the core of his God-Story. Dr. Ward invites us into our own personal psychological encounter with a here-and-now renaissance Return to Antiquity, joining the Church Fathers who dedicated their lives to the depth of this expansive vision. Open your mind to revision and redefine your faith. Let the big “T” Truth transform your mind, heal your wounds and open your heart to this wonderful heritage at the root of the great Christian tradition—From Glory to Glory!

Christians, Beware! by Magna Parks Pdf

Several years ago, I happened to come across a sermon by a pastor who delineated several spiritual dangers inherent in the field of psychology. Initially, I was not happy about what I read in this sermon because the writer attacked most, if not all, that I had been taught as a psychologist. But, as the Holy Spirit worked on my heart and led me to further study this issue, I finally had to admit that there are many concepts in secular psychology that are in direct conflict with the Word of God. What an eye-opening experience it was for me! Dear reader, as you go through this book it is my prayer that you will allow your mind to be opened to the information that will be shared. It is my hope that we, as individuals, will learn that we can turn to God for help with every problem that comes our way. It is also my desire that, on a corporate level, we will realize that God's Word contains all that we need to have a flourishing, vibrant church. All things are possible with God!--Magna Parks, Ph.D.

Resurrection Psychology by Margaret Alter Pdf

In 'Resurrection Psychology', Margaret Alter advances a system of psychology based upon biblical Christianity. Moving away from the notion that therapy must be completely value-neutral, the author suggests how the worlds of psychology and theology can enhance and inform one another. The result is a practical model of human personality observable in Jesus' life and teachings. As a practicing therapist and adjunct professor, Alter combines her extensive experience with years of study to offer a fresh approach to the field of psychology. By examining gospel stories that represent ten major themes and applying them to individual lives today, this book draws upon the teachings of Jesus as it addresses and transforms contemporary theories of psychology.

Spiritual Wisdom for a Happier Life by Mark W. PhD Baker Pdf

There are eight basic human emotions that all people experience--hurt, guilt/shame, anger, anxiety, sorrow, fear, happiness, and love. We might believe we make sense of our lives by thinking through our experiences, but neuroscience shows that the part of our brains that processes emotions is many times faster than the part where logic and reason hold sway. It's the way God created us, but if we do not develop wisdom for handling our feelings, we may find that our emotions continue to get the best of us. Thankfully, the Bible is full of guidance about our emotions. With keen insight into human psychology and a gift for drawing wisdom for life from Scripture, Dr. Mark Baker shows readers how they can find comfort and promote emotional health in their lives. Anyone experiencing distress in their relationships or struggling with overwhelming emotions or even traumatic events will find clear biblical help and healing, leading them to a happier, more fulfilled life.

The Psychology of Jesus the Messiah by Tommy Franks Ph D,Vários Autores Pdf

This book is about psychology and how Christ the Son of God used psychology on a daily basis to help him in dealing with people. Remember, Jesus was all man and all God. He did not need anyone to tell him what people were like. Dr. Jesus knew the principles and psychology of human relationships and human nature and was indeed a serious student of human behavior. His practical insight and personal experience in dealing with people helped to fashion His human relationships with others. It helped Him to identify the psychological and behavior issues with mankind. The Gospels tell us of many encounters that Christ had with people. Even though Jesus was and is the greatest Counselor and Psychologist of all ages, He never had a business card, an office, web site, cell phone, computer, diploma, degree, or any written credentials; yet he knew his patients inside and out. People who met Jesus were changed in one way or the other. Many times their minds were completely renewed...their souls comforted...and their bodies healed. As you read this book, you will find out how Jesus used psychology in His daily life and that Dr. Jesus loved all people regardless of color, gender, creed, or nationality. He continues to love unconditionally. Question? Is Jesus Lord over everything? Yes. Let me reiterate. This includes psychology and psychiatry. Since He invented and created the psyche of the mind, He certainly understands the fundamental concepts of human nature and behavior from a scientific point of view and from God's point of view. Christ was and still is the greatest Therapist and Counselor that the world has ever known. Many well intentioned Christians believe that the root of psychology is bad and has no acceptance in Christianity or the church. Others believe that Christianity and psychology do not mix and that psychology takes the opposite approach of Scripture. This is NOT true even though research shows that some pastors do feel uncomfortable or unequipped to address mental illness because mental illness is still "taboo" in many ways. The belief and use of Scripture are perhaps the most prevalent differences between the secular and Christian psychology worlds. For the Christian psychologist, the worldview must be determined by Scripture. As Christians, we see our clients as individuals in need of Jesus Christ. Furthermore, our understanding of mental illness and disorder is also based upon a Scripture-oriented global view. In recent years, psychologists have begun recognizing that we are a tri-part being...soul, spirit, and body...and that our spirituality impacts our lives; however, some traditional psychological theories and models are still based upon naturalism and are insufficient from a Christian worldview. Secular psychology is not wrong. It just needs to be integrated into the Christian model as determined by Scripture. The successful integration of psychology and Christianity has long been a passion of many Christian leaders and believers. Can the integration of theology and psychology complement each other? Absolutely! As humans, we develop and operate according to biological, psychological, and social influences as well as spiritual influence. As adults we use psychology (sometimes reverse psychology) to get what we want. Men do this all the time as well as women. Hence, we all use psychology in our daily lives quite often without even thinking about it. Was Jesus the Messiah the first psychiatrist? Yes. Let me elaborate on the word "Messiah" It means "the anointed one..".and has come to be understood "as a savior or liberator of a group of people." In the Hebrew (Old Testament), messiah means king or High Priest. The Jewish Messiah was and is a leader anointed by God and He physically descended from the Davidic line...who will rule the tribes of Israel...and herald in the Messianic Age of global peace also known as the new World to Come.
