Why to Die Before a Try by Ashutosh Sharma Pdf

The book 'Why to Die Before a Try' examines the profound despair of spiritual suicide—a condition where individuals abandon their core values, resulting in a metaphorical death of the soul. This decay emerges from the relentless pursuit of societal approval and superficial success, leading to a disconnection from one's true self. Despair is vividly illustrated through scenarios such as the loss of significant abilities or the hollow quest for fame, painting a stark picture of modern life's harsh realities. However, amidst this darkness, the text offers a glimmer of hope. Drawing on the timeless wisdom of the Bhagavad Gita, it advocates for a life centered on righteousness rather than rewards, suggesting a redemptive path forward through purposeful living. This philosophical approach serves as a counterpoint to despair, urging a return to authenticity and integrity. 'Why to Die Before a Try' is both a critique and a call to action, prompting a deep re-evaluation of life's priorities and encouraging a fight against despair with compassion and self-reflection.

The Truth about Alicia and Other Stories by Ana Consuelo Matiella Pdf

"The truth about Alicia was that she wasnÕt that stable to begin with. So when she did what she did, no one was very surprised. Still it was shocking, the way she followed them from the hardware store to the woman's house, the way she broke the sliding glass door with the tire jack, the way she found them in bed. It was more than she could take, her being seven months pregnant and all. It only took two shots. . . . " Alicia is not the only woman with problems. In these stories about contemporary and traditional Latinas, Ana Consuelo Matiella uses sensitivity and wit to address issues faced by women of color and women everywhereÑissues largely having to do with love: between men and women, mothers and daughters, women and friends. In engaging stories about family myths, gossip, and lies, comadres converse over afternoon cafŽ con leche. "I'm sure that I was the only wife whose husband was teaching their daughter to do Cheech Marin imitations," remarks one of Matiella's characters. Another sings the praises of the chocolate milkshake diet: "ThatÕs one advantage of living on the border. You get to try all the latest gringo inventions as soon as they hit the streets." Through encounters with angels, conversations with dogs, and relationships with men overly concerned with the dimensions of their manhood, Matiella offers a new exploration of the human conditionÑone showing us that if we cannot laugh at life, no matter how tragic the circumstances, we are surely doomed. With humor and insight that come only through close observation of her fellow human beings, this gifted writer brings new twists to familiar scenes. The Truth about Alicia and Other Stories is an authentic portrayal of the world of contemporary Chicanas that will delight everyone who enters it.

15 Minutes to Live by Vincent Tanner Pdf

In February 1968, Andy Warhol coined the phrase "fifteen minutes of fame." His actual statement is slightly different. He said, "In the future, everybody will be world-famous for fifteen minutes." This is not about Andy Warhol, nor is it about fame. It is about fifteen minutes. Fifteen minutes--Not a very long amount of time by any standard. However, while it is a very brief period to some, it can seem like an eternity to others, depending on the situation and the circumstances. You need to be somewhere important in just fifteen minutes, and you are not quite ready. Those minutes seem to fly by. You are stuck in traffic on your way to catch a plane, your flight boards in fifteen minutes. Those minutes disappear as if by magic. It is just one-quarter of an hour, fifteen short minutes, 900 seconds, but they are different things to different people. To some, they are too short; to others, they are too long. This is not a very long book. However, it will take more than fifteen minutes to read. Yet, it contains only five chapters; each separate one is about how five distinguished people deal with fifteen minutes. These are not the best fifteen minutes of their lives; it is their last fifteen minutes. The question to you is--What would you do with your one-quarter hour, your fifteen minutes, your 900 seconds? What would you be thinking? What would run through your mind if you knew for certain that you had only -- Fifteen Minutes to Live?

Men and Angels by Willis Knapp Jones Pdf

Willis Knapp Jones, a noted translator and specialist in Latin-American theatre, has chosen these three comedies as examples of the flowering of truly national theatre in Paraguay, Chile, and Argentina: The Fate of Chipi' González, by José Maria Rivarola Matto; Man of the Century, by Miguel Frank; and The Quack Doctor, by Camilo Darthés and Carlos Damel. As the title under which the three plays are collected suggests, the plays reflect a unique if irreverent combination of fact and fantasy. Yet, as the reader will perceive, underlying this fantasy and love of the quixotic are themes of intrinsic universal appeal, the mark of creative genius in any language. The Fate of Chipí González, set in rural Paraguay, pits the Angel Saul and the devil mom in a struggle for the soul of Chipí, an illiterate football champion. But Chipí escapes them all--the football team, the devil, and the angel. Man of the Century features fast-moving, hilarious situations created by Angel XM26 when he is sent to check up on a middle-class Chilean family in preparation for the Last Judgement. Angel XM26, clad in wings of waterproof nylon designed by Dior, proves unequal to his task, and all Heaven and Hell ring with the problems thus created. The Quack Doctor, a simple and delightful comedy, explores the folkways in an Argentine village, where a woman doctor, unable to win acceptance in a society which refuses to approve of a woman trained as a physician, meets her patients at their own superstitious level. A Contemporary Latin American Classics series book, edited by J. Cary Davis, Professor of Spanish at Southern Illinois University.

Spanish Sentences Vol.1 by Nik Marcel,Robert P. Stockwell,J. Donald Bowen,Ismael Silva-Fuenzalida Pdf

SPANISH SENTENCES Vol.1: English & Spanish THIS EDITION: The dual-language text has been arranged into sentences for quick and easy cross-referencing. The text can be used on its own. However, the content is ideal for reinforcing grammar, and as a precursor to more advanced bilingual editions. This digital edition contains the content in ‘English to Spanish’ and ‘Spanish to English’ formats. Once a student has studied the basics, a suitable book about basic grammar is helpful. The suggestion is that it be studied more with the intent of recognition and understanding, rather than memorising and obsessive rote learning. Go through as much of the book you feel you can digest — maybe even the whole book — skipping over what is not easily understood. Then, read through a portion of text in this book, looking for examples of what you have picked up (or gleaned) in your hopefully not so arduous study of grammar. Even repeatedly seeing a word that you remember seeing listed as a ‘subject pronoun’ or a ‘third person plural’ verb of some sort is a great help. Then, depending on your inclination, return to the grammar book (or your basic Spanish book), or move on to lengthier bilingual text — like in 2Language Books texts containing news or stories, for example —, or find some suitable Spanish text: a simple novel, a Spanish news website, etc. Grammar books will likely have some verb charts. However, there are currently good on-line resources that go further — dictionaries with a verb conjugation ‘search’ option. Many basic language books offer some form of audio support. Internet services — primarily news based radio stations — offer podcasts. Audio from television is an additional resource, and can be formatted for use on various digital platforms. However, if audio is an important component of your interest in languages, electronic devices that support quality text-to-speech (TTS) will likely be appealing. With a library card, TTS technology (in a device that supports the relevant content), and the above mentioned resources, an entire language learning system is available for not much more than a cup of coffee! There is no substantial financial outlay to get you started. Furthermore, there are no additional ongoing fees (and updates), and there are no expiry dates on ‘premium’ content and resources.
