Juvenile Arrests (2007) by Charles Puzzanchera Pdf

This report serves to assess the Nation¿s progress in addressing juvenile crime. The 2007 data bring some welcome news, as the recent trend of modest increases in juvenile arrests in 2005 and 2006 has been broken. The good news is reflected not only in the 2% decline in overall juvenile arrests and the 3% decline in juvenile arrests for violent crimes from 2006 to 2007 but also in the data for most offense categories, for males and females, and for white and minority youth. However, one area that merits continued attention is disproportionate minority contact with the juvenile justice system. For example, the arrest rate for robbery among black juveniles was more than 10 times that for white youth in 2007. Charts and tables.

Juvenile Justice and Delinquency by David Springer,Albert Roberts Pdf

Traces the progress toward resolving critical juvenile justice and delinquency issues, and to provide cutting-edge intervention strategies to effectively rehabilitate juvenile offenders and prevent delinquency. The 21 chapters in this book are divided into four sections. Part I provides an overview of juvenile delinquency and the juvenile justice system. In this section, we examine historical, political, legal, and arrest delinquency trends and consider comprehensive community planning as one strategy for improving the juvenile justice system. Part II explores early crime prevention strategies, effective programs to reduce antisocial behavior and school bullying, and the powerful relationship between school performance and juvenile delinquency. Part III examines and critiques a range of developmental, familial, and sociological theories that are commonly used to explain and understand juvenile delinquency. Finally, in Part IV, we examine a range of juvenile justice treatment and policy alternatives, including mental health screening and assessment, suicide prevention, evidence-based intervention models, police responses and strategies to delinquency, drug and mental health courts, therapeutic jurisprudence, restorative justice, female delinquency, and community-based after-care.

Crime in the United States contains findings from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) of the offenses, known to law enforcement, released annually from its Uniform Crime Reporting Program. Because the FBI no longer prints these findings, Bernan Press continues to provide this practical information in convenient book form. In this intricately detailed source, legal and law enforcement professionals, researchers, and those who are just curious will find violent and property crime statistics for the nation as a whole—and for regions, states, counties, cities, towns, and even college and university campuses. Crime in the United States includes statistics for: • violent and property crimes • hate crimes • crime trends • victims, by type • crimes cleared (those closed by arrest or other means) • persons arrested (age, sex, and race) • juvenile offenders • law enforcement personnel (including the number of sworn officers killed or assaulted) • characteristics of homicides (including age, sex, and race of victims and offenders; victim-offender relationships; weapons used; and circumstances surrounding homicides) In addition to data, Crime in the United States also includes text and pertinent figures that explain the data in greater detail and supplies a visual perspective of these major offenses. Violent crimes include: • murder and non-negligent manslaughter • forcible rape • robbery • aggravated assault Property crimes include: • burglary • larceny-theft • motor vehicle theft • arson Hate crimes include any crime motivated by bias against: • race • religion • sexual orientation • ethnicity/national origin • and/or disability Data include the following: offense type, location, bias motivation, victim type, number of individual victims, number of offenders, and the race of the offenders. Interesting facts found in Crime in the United States include: The rate of violent crime decreased 21.9 percent between 2002 and 2011. Robberies declined the most of any offense, falling 22.2 percent. The FBI estimated that 12,408,899 arrests were made in 2011. Of these arrests, 4.3 percent were for violent crimes. Law enforcement agencies reported 6,222 hate crime incidents involving 7,254 offenses in 2011. In 2011, slightly more hate crimes were committed on the basis of sexual orientation (1,293) than on a religion basis (1,233). Men accounted for 88.2 percent of all full-time sworn law enforcement officers in 2011. In 2011, the estimated number of forcible rapes (83,425)—the lowest figure in 22 years—decreased 2.5 percent from the 2010 estimate. Juvenile Justice by Francine Sherman,Francine Jacobs Pdf

"The lessons in this book remind us that we can and that we must do better, for the sake of our children, their futures, and the sake of our nation. . . . This volume is a call to action, and I encourage everyone who reads it to take steps to ensure that all America's children are given an equal chance to succeed. We must all work together to replace the cradle-to-prison pipeline with a pipeline to responsible, productive adulthood." From the Foreword by Marian Wright Edelman, JD, President and founder, Children's Defense Fund, Washington, DC "Juvenile Justice: Advancing Research, Policy, and Practice appears at a critical time, when promising juvenile justice reforms are underway in so many jurisdictions across the United States. Sherman and Jacobs, and their impressive array of expert authors, fill a significant gap in the literature, making the current body of juvenile justice research and experience accessible to policy makers, researchers, and funders, and doing so through a practical and positive lens." Patrick McCarthy, President and Chief Executive Officer, Annie E. Casey Foundation, Baltimore, MD "Most people have narrow views of what it means to be a delinquent youth. In Juvenile Justice: Advancing Research, Policy, and Practice, Sherman and Jacobs have diligently collected essays from the top experts in the juvenile justice field who tell an empirically based and powerful narrative of who is really in the delinquency system. As this book makes clear, until we ask and answer the right questions, we will remain unable to help the youth most in need." Alexander Busansky, President, The National Council on Crime and Delinquency, Oakland, CA A comprehensive reference presenting a rehabilitative, youth- and community-centered vision of juvenile justice Juvenile Justice: Advancing Research, Policy, and Practice brings together experts in juvenile justice, child development, and public health to explore the intersections between juvenile justice and needed development of programs and policies that look out for the health and well-being of the youth who enter this system. This timely book provides a usable framework for imagining juvenile justice systems that emphasize the welfare of juveniles, achieved primarily through connections within their communities. A must-read for professionals working in juvenile courts and within juvenile justice agencies, Juvenile Justice: Advancing Research, Policy, and Practice reflects both the considerable advances and the challenges currently evident in the juvenile justice system, with an emphasis on the development and implementation of policies that can succeed in building a new generation of educated young people able to embrace their potential and build successful futures.
