Jaxx and The Beanstalkers by G M Acorn Pdf

Once after a time... Jaxx is just about to turn eighteen. Jaxx's thoughts tend to wander. Jaxx doesn't always pay a lot of attention to detail. He's just a normal teenager with an unusual family history. Well, he thinks he's normal anyway. His friends kid him a lot about his famous great-grandfather. No one believes in the old stories about Grandpa Jack climbing a beanstalk and defeating a giant. His parents finally think Jaxx is grown-up enough to run the farm his mother inherited from Grandpa Jack, her grandfather. He's hoping his new responsibilities will encourage his friends to give him more respect and forget about all that fairy-tale nonsense. Jaxx loved Grandpa Jack, but now that he's older, he realizes those stories were only make-believe to impress children and fools. Jaxx still feels a bit like an outsider in this beautiful British mountain valley. He's lived here for seven of his eighteen years. He's only half English, you see. His American half makes him a target for more joshing from his British pals. His accent and language amuse them, but it's all in good fun. All things considered, Jaxx is content. Sometimes he wishes his life were more exciting, but he loves the farm. He works hard, stays fit, and gets to spend his free time in the village with his friends. Jaxx's luck hasn't been too good lately. He's looking forward to his birthday celebration at the pub. Maybe his luck will change for the better once he turns eighteen. Probably not. Jaxx just isn't that lucky. Dear reader, it's time to let you in on a secret. Jaxx doesn't know his luck is about to change...for the worse! He's about to be thrust into a world he couldn't even imagine. A world of magic, danger, and challenges. A world of impossibilities. A world he may never be able to escape.

The Nag Hammadi Library in English by James James McConkey Robinson,Richard Smith,Coptic Gnostic Library Project Pdf

First published in 1978, "The Nag Hammadi Library" was widely acclaimed by critics and scholars alike. Containing many of the writings of the Gnostics since the time of Christ, this was the work that launched modern Gnostic studies and exposed a movement whose teachings are in may ways as relevant today as they were sixteen centuries ago. Although some of the texts had appeared in other translations, the 1978 edition was the first and only translation of these ancient and fascinating manuscripts to appear in one volume. This new edition is the result of ten years of additional research, and editorial and critical work. Every translation has been changed or added to; many have been thoroughly revised. Unearthed in 1945 near the town of Nag Hammadi in Upper Egypt, the texts literally begin where the Dead Sea Scrolls end. Their discovery is seen as equally significant, bringing to light a long-hidden well of new information, sources, and insights into early Judaism and the roots of Christianity. Each text is accompanied by a new and expanded introduction. Also included are a revised general introduction and an afterword discussing the modern relevance of Gnosticism, from Voltaire and Blake through Melville and Yeats to Jack Kerouac and science fiction writer Philip K. Dick. The translations and introductions to the Nag Hammadi texts are by members of the Coptic Gnostic Library Project, which includes such scholars as Helmut Koester, George McRae, and Elaine Pagels.

Midnight by L. Josiah Spano Pdf

EVERYONE is left behind, the world is in its greatest hour of tribulation, the mark of the beast is here, are you ready? Jude is relatable. He’s a young American male with a college degree and career in the Coast Guard. He just wants to live his life in the typical American way: working a steady job and going to church on Sundays. God gives him quite the opposite story, however, when the power suddenly begins to go out around the world, Jude finds himself stranded at sea. After being rescued, he’s taken to a refugee camp, where he finds out that he’s not leaving until he gets a microchip. As the world around him crumbles under the wiles of the Devil, Jude finds himself re-evaluating everything he’s never been taught or told, the world is in its greatest hour of tribulation. As he trudges through the record- breaking snowfall, fights against a whole new level of technology that threatens to render the human race extinct, deciphers bizarre and strange new dreams, races to an advanced civilization and meets a diverse group of people who have their passion for Christ in common, Jude learns what it really means to be solely dependent on God and to seek first His kingdom. With evil running rampant in the form of war, famine, natural disasters, disease, suffering and deadly technology, it’s quite evident Jude and his new friends are living in the “last days” John talks about in Revelation. In fact, these may even be the “last hours”. What will happen to Jude, his friends, and the world when the clock strikes Midnight?

The Year of the Bear by Douglas J. Lanzo Pdf

“Fans of classic, enthralling adventure (and I’m one) are in for a rare treat.” Josh Lieb New York Times best-selling and Emmy Award-winning author of I am a Genius of Unspeakable Evil and I Want to Be Your Class President Thirteen-year-old Jason is on the cusp of manhood, striving to find his place at school and at home-especially after his mother has abandoned them and his father is left to deal with his own anger. When Jason and his father encounter a bear while out hunting, they shoot and kill it, not realizing that they have left a cub without its mother. When Sasquot of the Penobscot Tribe, a part of the Bear Family, discovers what they have done, he decides that Jason needs a lesson in caring for God's creatures. Thus begins a year that Jason will never forget as he begins to care and train the cub in order for it to survive. As Jason forms a bond with the bear, he, in turn, learns valuable lessons for life. “Bears can move and climb surprisingly quickly; so, too, does this fast-paced and highly satisfying debut novel set in rural Maine, richly evoked. The Year of the Bear tells a coming-of-age story, its action seamlessly interwoven with moments of indigenous wisdom, personal discovery, and universal truth. If the immediate experience is cinematic, its aftereffect is inspirational. A compelling and uplifting work.” Scott Mason Author of The Wonder Code: Discover the Way of Haiku and See the World with New Eyes “The Year of the Bear is a wonderful coming-of-age story. Jason, our young protagonist, faces a series of challenges, both physical and emotional, and comes out as a better young man as a result. The adventurous story draws you in and the development of the characters keeps you reading. Congratulations on a wonderful story.” Robert Ford, Jr. 2014 Footlocker Co-National Coach of the Year “A Newberry award contender, for sure!” Katie Cruice Smith Senior Editor and Author of Why Did You Choose Me? “This is truly a powerful coming-of-age story which connects the expanse of nature and human emotion at a level of intensity that carries the reader deep into the lives of its characters. A rich and engaging read!” Rev. Dr. Cheryl L. Tatham Minister, North Chevy Chase Christian Church, Chevy Chase, MD “The Year of the Bear is an exciting and exhilarating novel that will keep both students and adults on the edge of their seats. Mr. Lanzo does a fantastic job of bringing the characters to life, and allowing young adults to make real world connections to the subject matter and the characters in his work. The Year of the Bear is an engaging and compelling read.” Gregory D. Pacific, PhD Board of Directors/Faculty Akamai University Durham, North Carolina “As a child my grade school teachers read the Laura Ingalls Wilder books to us after lunch. Her descriptions were so clear that it seemed like I was transported into their lives. The time was different, but the place was nearby. Reading The Year of the Bear gives me that same feeling. The detailed descriptions of the land, lakes, rivers, with their plants and animals have described a place I have never seen, but I feel like I now know and am walking with Jason and his whole “family.” And the personalities of each of the characters are different, and yet they understand and love each other.” Pastor Roger Berner Current pastor of Lutheran Church of Our Savior, Port Washington, New York “A wonderful, multi-layered adventure of a young teen growing up in rural northern Maine.” Bob Ford, Sr. Footlocker 2014 National Coach of the Year

Above the Clouds by Kilian Jornet Pdf

"Kilian Jornet is the most dominating endurance athlete of his generation."—NEW YORK TIMES "Inspiring and humbling"— ALEX HONNOLD The most accomplished mountain runner of all time contemplates his record-breaking climbs of Mount Everest in this profound memoir—an intellectual and spiritual journey that moves from the earth’s highest peak to the soul’s deepest reaches. Kilian Jornet has broken nearly every mountaineering record in the world and twice been named National Geographic Adventurer of the Year. In 2018 he summitted Mount Everest twice in one week—without the help of bottled oxygen or ropes. As he recounts a life spent studying and ascending the greatest peaks on earth, Jornet ruminates on what he has found in nature—simplicity, freedom, and spiritual joy—and offers a poetic yet clearheaded assessment of his relationship to the mountain . . . at times his opponent, at others, his greatest inspiration.
